Lida Lee Jones Carty
Mrs. Lida Lee Jones Carty, age 75, of Forrest City, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Carty, born Oct. 27, 1926, in Stuttgart, was the daughter Robert T. Jones and Wilhemina Rosina Hahn Jones. She was a retiree from Eaton, Yale and Towne.
Mrs. Carty is survived by two sons, Robert Carty of Fredericksburg, Va. and David Carty of Jonesboro; three brothers, Roscoe Jones of Hot Springs, Kelly Jones of Stuttgart and Gerald Jones of Jacksonville; two sisters, Gloria Ferrara of Los Alamitos, Calif. and Pat Hisaw of Lake Providence, La., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carty were held Monday, Oct. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Raymond "Rambo" Hensley
Mr. Raymond "Rambo" Hensley, age 64, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Hensley, born June 3, 1938, in Colorado, was the son of Cloyed and Ida Hensley. He had made his home in the Forrest City area for the past 20 years. He attended Palestine Gospel Chapel. Mr. Hensley is survived by a brother, Theodore Hensley and a number of relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Hensley were held on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Jewel Ellis Pitts
Mrs. Jewel Ellis Pitts, age 95, of Cherry Valley, died Wednesday Oct. 23, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Pitts, born March 30, 1907, in Pine Tree, the daughter of Louin Ellis and Emma Reeves Ellis. She was a member of the Feltner Assembly of God Church and a member of the homemakers extension club in Cherry Valley.
In July of 1924, Mrs. Pitts married the late John Preston Pitts. She is survived by a son, Bill Pitts of Cherry Valley; two sisters, Lois Skinner and Retha Barker, both of Forrest City; a brother, Gary Ellis of Forrest City; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pitts were held, Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne with Rev. Jim Davis, Rev. Dan Minton and Rev. Wanda Secrease officiating. Burial followed in Tyer Cemetery in Cherry Valley under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne.
John Preston Pitts
Mr. John Preston Pitts, age 98, of Cherry Valley, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Pitts, a lifelong resident of Cherry Valley, was born Aug. 9, 1904 in Cherry Valley, the son of James Pitts and Zada Shannon Pitts. Mr. Pitts was an Assembly of God minister for many years and had served as pastor of the Fair Oaks Assembly of God Church. He also served as a mail carrier for the United State Postal Service. He was a member of the Feltner Assembly of God Church.
In July of 1924, Mr. Pitts married the late Jewel Ellis Pitts. He is survived by a son, Bill Pitts of Cherry Valley; a sister, Novie Gaskin of Wynne; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Pitts were held on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne, with Rev. Jim Davis, Rev. Dan Minton and Rev. Wanda Secrease officiating. Kenneth Ray Pitts Sr.
Mr. Kenneth Ray Pitts Sr., age 73, of Cherry Valley, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Pitts, born April 28, 1929, in Cherry Valley, was the son of John Pitts and Jewel Ellis Pitts. Mr. Pitts served as a salesman for custom floors in St. Louis for many years and worked in the flooring industry until his retirement in 1997. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served two terms and was a Pentecostal by faith.
In June of 1950 Mr. Pitts married Leenora Lovejoy Pitts and she survives him along with a son, Kenneth Pitts Jr., of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Darlene Pitts and Michelle Pitts, both of St. Louis, Mo., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Pitts were held on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Davis, Rev. Dan Minton and Rev. Wanda Secrease officiating. Burial followed in Tyer Cemetery in Cherry Valley under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne.
Ruby Vickers
Mrs. Ruby Vickers, age 72, of Hughes, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Vickers, a homemaker, was the wife of the late Rev. Howard Vickers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vickers were held Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Hughes First Baptist Church in Hughes. Burial followed in Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis.
Jimmy G. Feltman
Mr. Jimmy G. Feltman, age 68, of Forrest City, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Feltman was born May 23, 1934, in Alabama, the son of Monroe Feltman and Lucille Cook Feltman. He lived in Texas before moving back to Forrest City in 1997, was retired from the railroad and a Methodist.
Mr. Feltman is survived by four brothers, Ben Feltman of Carlisle, David Feltman of Hughes, Spencer Feltman and James Feltman both of Widener; one sister, Frances Gorman of Forrest City; one step-brother, Paul Tipton of Mississippi. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lillie Mae Pipkin.
A memorial service will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Larry Donell Banks
Mr. Larry Donell Banks, age 48, of Marianna, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City. Mr. Banks, the son of Verna Banks Gipson, was a line worker at Sanyo.
Mr. Banks is survived by his daughter, Amber Banks of Atlanta, Ga.; a son Larry Banks Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; his mother; three sisters, Evelyn Shackford of Marianna, Relinda Davis of Moro, Alonda Harris of Chicago Ill.; six brothers, Maxie Banks of Helena, Gregory Banks of Memphis, Victor Gipson of Florence, Ala., Robert Gipson, Little Rock, and Darye Ellis and Shaeen Ellis both of Chicago Ill.
Visitation for Mr. Banks will be held Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, from 12 to 5 p.m. at J.E. Kennedy Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Lee Senior High School with Rev. Justin Doyel officiating. Burial will follow in Gill Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Kennedy Funeral Home.
Theaster Blissett
Mrs. Theaster Blissett, age 80, of Forrest City, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City
Mrs. Blissett, born Nov. 28, 1921, in Palestine, was the daughter of George Alexander and Susan Wiggens. She is survived by three sisters, Annie L. Simmons of Palestine, Barbara Gates of Forrest City and Lillie N. Williams of Memphis.
Visitation services for Mrs. Blissett will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mrs. Blissett will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at noon at Williams Temple Church of God in Christ with Elder Napolean Grace officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Rebecca Dale Vaughn Marcum
Mrs. Rebecca Dale "Becky" Vaughn Marcum, age 54, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Marcum was born Nov. 7, 1947, in Tyronza, the daughter of Bill Vaughn and Opal Vaughn. She lived in Forrest City most of her life and was a housewife.
Mrs. Marcum married Harvey A. Marcum Sr., in 1972, and he survives her along with one son, Harvey Eugene Marcum of Forrest City; one daughter, Amry L. Holland of Harrisburg; one step-son, Harvey A. Marcum Jr. of Memphis; four brothers, Albert Vaughn of Minnesota., Pete Vaughn of Iowa, Jim Vaughn and Thomas Vaughn both of Forrest City; five sisters, Anita Miller of Texas, Kay Christian and Sandy Covey both of Tennessee, Ann Vaughn Banks and Renee Homewood both of Forrest City; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Marcum will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Charles Sullivan
Mr. Charles Sullivan, age 63, of Wynne, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Sullivan, a former resident of Forrest City, was an iron worker prior to retiring eight years ago. He was born Aug. 8, 1939, in Birdeye, the son of James Napolean Sullivan and Gladys Cleese Climer Sullivan, and attended school in Cherry Valley. He was also a member of the Local 167 Iron Workers Union in Memphis.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by two sons, Charles David Sullivan and Carey Sullivan, both of Huntsville, Ala.; three sisters, Edna Austin of Searcy, Charline McGuire of Forrest City and Dianne Alley of Marion; two brothers, James Edward Sullivan of Bakersfield, Calif., and Gene Sullivan of Wynne and four grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mr. Sullivan will be held, Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Sullivan will be held Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne, with Rev. Bob Warford and Bro. Charles Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Homes of Wynne and McCrory.
