James Edward Dice
Mr. James Edward Dice, age 85, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999.
He was born Oct. 24, 1914. Mr. Dice was a businessman, and was a member of the National Association of Real Estate Appraisers and was a charter member of the Mid-East Arkansas National Association of Home Builders. At one time he was the oldest active real estate appraiser in the state. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Forrest City, and a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Dice is survived by his wife, Mable Parker Dice; two daughters, Lana Diane Van Giesen and Jan Dice, both of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Judy Mullenix of Boca Raton, Fla.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 199, at the First United Methodist Church in Forrest City. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Stevens Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Charlene Brown
Charlene Brown, age 59, of Madison, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 1999, at her home.
She was born Sept. 5, 1940, and was the daughter of Tommie White Sr. and Lillie Mae Burse White.
She is survived by one daughter, Janette White of Madison; one sister, Dorothy Bonds of Del Rio, Texas; one brother, Tommie White Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at 1 p.m. at Madison Light M.B. Church with Rev. Alonzo Gatling officiating with burial following in Bonds Cemetery in Madison under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Virester Miller McDaniel-Haymer
Virester Miller McDaniel-Haymer, age 46, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 22, 1953, to Virgie Haymer and Allie Mae Haymer of Forrest City, who survive her. She was employeed as a secretary at Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute.
She is also survived by two brothers, Xavier Haymer of Marion, and Tracy Haymer of Jonesboro; three sisters, Paulette Haymer of Dallas, Texas, Sheila Haymer of Forrest City, and Tammie Haymer of Memphis; and a grandfather, Willie Brown of Forrest City.
Services were held on Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at the Rising Sun M.B. Church with intermenty at Casteel Cemetery. Clay Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Jessie Leon Reeves
Rev. Jessie Leon Reeves, age 80, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Moro, and was the son of Jessie Reeves and Beulah Woods Reeves. He lived in St. Francis County most all of his life, was a retired minister, a veteran of WWII and was a member of the Beck Spur Baptist Church.
He married Bessie Salmons in 1948, and she survives him along with one son, Ronnie Reeves of Forrest City; one daughter, Mary Pamela Graves of Parkin; two brothers, Clarence Reeves of Palestine and Bert Reeves of Colt; four sisters, Florence Nickles of Forrest City, Inez Allison of Conway, Louise Massey of Louisiana and Audrey Hooker of Mississippi; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Beck Spur Baptist Church.
Mitchell Joseph Ash Sr.
Mitchell Joseph Ash Sr., 87, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mr. Ash was a lifelong resident of Forrest City and the owner of Ash Furniture Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Tompkins Ash in 1980.
He is survived a daughter, Lynn Ash Petry of Champaign, Ill.; a son, Mitchell Joseph Ash Jr. of Collierville, Tenn.; two sisters, Bernice Van Vranken of Forrest City and Lorraine King of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
A rosary visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Stevens Funeral Home. Mass will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church in Forrest City on Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in the City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the St. Francis Catholic Church in Forrest City.
Charles Driver
Charles Driver, 19, of Forrest City, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, in South Carolina while on a hunting trip.
He was born Sept. 15, 1980, in Naples, Fla.
He is survived by his parents, Randy and Brenda Driver of Forrest City; four sisters, Amanda Driver, Angela Driver, Katie Driver and Jamie Driver, all of Forrest City; a grandmother, Margaret Griggs of Forrest City; grandparents John and Betty Wryals of Immokalee, Fla., and host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Charlie Griggs and Charlie Driver.
A memorial will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at the home of Randy and Brenda Driver, 27 SFC 331, Forrest City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests perennial plants for a memorial garden for Mr. Driver.
James Cecil "Jaybird" Elliott
James Cecil "Jaybird" Elliott, 62, of Colt, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
He was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Palestine to Noah and Stella Morris Elliott. He was a retired Yale employee and a lifelong resident of the Palestine and Colt areas.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Elliot and a son, Michael Elliott.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Like Elliott of Colt; one son, James Elliott of Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Margie Crumley of Prescott; four brothers, Billy Elliott of Forrest City, Bobby Elliott of Little Rock, Donald and Johnny Elliott both of Palestine; three sisters, Ida Mae Ballard and Kay Dooley both of Forrest City, Geraldine Pendleton of Riverside, Calif. and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne. Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne with Rev. Norman Like of the House of Prayer officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.

Bertha Mae Daniel Bates
Bertha Mae Daniel Bates, age 87, of Memphis, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Sycamore View Nursing Home in Memphis.
She was born May 29, 1912, in Ben Franklin, Texas, and was the daughter of Oliver Brewer and Grace Moore Brewer. She was a housewife and a resident of Dallas, Texas most all of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Irving, Texas.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy E. Smith of Forrest City; and three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Daniel in 1965.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lisa Anderson officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at 11 a.m. in Dallas, Texas at Restland Memorial Park. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Darden
Robert Darden, age 82, of Widener, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Crestpark Retirement Inn Skilled of Forrest City.
He was born in Tallehasse, Miss. and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by six sons, Willie Thompson and Tommy Thompson, both of Widener, Louis Thompson of Madison, Walter Thompson of St. Louis, Mo., Freddie Thompson of Houston, Texas and Stanley Thompson of Widener; six daughters, Dorothy Rucker and Erma Wonsley, both of St. Louis, Mo., Sharann Hill and Patricia Brown both of Jonesboro, Janet Davis and Lucynthia Johnson, both of Widener; one sister, Louise Sykes of East St. Louis, Ill. and a friend, Alice Thompson of Widener; many grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at 1 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Thompson officiating with burial following in Whitmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home.
