Mr. Vernon Dee "Buck" Dallas
Mr. Vernon Dee "Buck" Dallas, age 68, of Forrest City, died Friday, June 16, 2000, in his home.
Mr. Dallas was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Colt and was the son of Dee Dallas Sr. and Laura Moon Dallas. He lived in St. Francis County most of his life. He was a heavy equipment operator and a former employee of the St. Francis County Road Department. He was also a member of the Beck Spur Baptist Church.
Mr. Dallas married Pauline Chism Dallas, in 1964, and she survives him along with eight daughters, Charlotte Sallis, of Charlotte, N.C., Paulette McGowan, of Palestine, Sheila Gordon, of Paragould, Vernie Dallas Brown, of Colt, Hope Dallas Davenport, of Caldwell, Jenny Abbott, Leosha Bradford and Jackie Busby, all of Forrest City; one son, Shane Dallas of Caldwell; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Dallas were held today, Monday June, 19, 2000, in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home at 2 p.m., with burial in Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Memorials are to be made to the Beck Spur Baptist Church.
Mellie Gameliah Williams
Mellie Gameliah Williams, age 88, of Forrest City, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Cross Ridge Hospital in Wynne.
Mr. Williams was born August 12, 1911, to W. Henry Williams and Katie Arbell McGuire Williams in Hamilton, Ala. He was a retired machinist with The Mechanics in Rockford, Ill,. but had lived in St. Francis County since 1972. He was also a member of the Wynne Church of God.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Linnie Laveytia Williams; two sons, James Owell Williams and Harold Choice Williams; three brothers, Thomas Reed, Maxwell Williams and Joseph Williams; and two sisters, Artie Foltz and Versie Bussell. He is survived by two brothers, Alvin Williams, of Burlison, Tenn., and David Williams, of Waldo; a sister, Dovie Nesler, of Hickory Ridge; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service for Mr. Williams will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne with Rev. T.L. Gabbard officiating. Visitation will be Monday, June 19, 2000, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kernodle Funeral Home. Kernodle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Beulah Gilmer Pounders
Beulah Gilmer Pounders, age 65, of Forrest City, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Crestpark Nursing Home.
Mrs. Pounders was born April 18, 1935, in Pontotoc, Miss., to George Marlin Gilmer and Mary Catherine Terry Gilmer. She lived in Forrest City for the past 47 years, worked at the Unemployment Office and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She married Ernest Kenneth Pounder in 1956, and he survives her along with a daughter, Melissa Dawson, of North Little Rock; three sons, Ken Pounders, of Horseshoe Bend, Tony Pounders, of Cabot, Gil Pounders, of Olive Branch, Miss.; four brothers, Lee Gilmer, of Memphis, Tenn., Therrell Gilmer, of Arlington, Texas, Harold Gilmer, of Colt, Bobby Gilmer, of Wynne; three sisters, Mavis Walraven, of Memphis, Tenn., Mary Lynn Busby and Linda Cosgrove, both of West Memphis; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Pounders was preceded in death by a sister, Laverne Moore; a brother, Gene Gilmer; and a grandson, Jeremie Pounders.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., today Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Stevens Funeral Home.
Services for Mrs. Pounders will be held in the Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home, with Rev. Dustin Limke officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to United Cerebral Palsy.
Harold Sharpe
Harold Sharpe, age 84, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at his home in Memphis, Tenn.
Mr. Sharpe was born March 9, 1916, in Forrest City to Sam and Sarah Sharpe.
Mr. Sharpe graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a J.D. Degree in 1938. He practiced law in Forrest City for over 60 years, was a member and past president of the St. Francis County Bar Association, a member of the Arkansas and American Bar Associations, a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of America and a member and past president of the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association.
He was also a founder and past president of the Forrest City Shriner's Club, a member and past president of the Forrest City Rotary Club and honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, a member and past president of the Forrest City Lion's and Mason's Clubs and a member and past president of the Forrest City Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Board of the Forrest City Public Library and was a founder of Forrest City Abstract Company.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen Lewis Sharpe; three daughters, Dr. Nancy Sharpe, of Denver, Co., Emily Sharpe of Wilmette, Ill., and Amy Sharpe, of New Orleans, La.; a son, Sam Sharpe, of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Estelle Engelberg, of Memphis, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Temple Israel Cemetery in Memphis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.

Thelma Lee Polk
Thelma Lee Polk, age 72, died Saturday, June 17, 2000.
Mrs. Polk was born April 3, 1928, in Somerville, Tenn., to Hattie Roberson and Ollie Williams. She was a member of the Williams Temple Church of God in Christ in Palestine and was a member of the usher board.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and five sisters.
She is survived by four sons, Marvin Polk and Jerry Polk, both of San Diego, Calif, Billy Polk, of Colt, Kenneth Polk, of Chicago, Ill.; six daughters, Betty McKinney, of Palestine, Elizabeth Dukes, of Forrest City, Odell Gandy, of Spanish Lake, Mo., Lucille Polk, of Colt, Dianne Polk, of San Diego, Calif., Detric Polk, of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Percy Williams, of Alabama, Charlie Williams, of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Freddie Sprouls, of Lexington, Miss., Hattie Matthews, of Benton Harbor, Mich., Doretha Jones, Ruthie Porter and Lonnie Watkins, all of Chicago, Ill.; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Williams Temple at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Paradise Garden under the direction of Anthony Funeral Home.
Margaret Lynn Jones
Margaret Lynn Jones, age 41, of Palestine, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, in her home.
She was born Oct. 18, 1958, in Elaine. She was a factory worker, a homemaker and a Baptist.
She is survived by two daughters, Chasity Lynn Jones, of Pine Tree, Charity Lynn Jones, of Palestine; a son, Phillip Criss, of Forrest City; her parents, Hoyt and Naomi Criss, of Caldwell and Jean Criss, of Forrest City; three sisters, Glenda Tilley, of Glen Rose, Texas, Sandra Mitchell and Donna Starkey, of Forrest City; five brothers, Hoyt Edward Criss of Bayton, Texas, Jeffery Criss and Randy Criss, both of Forrest City, Dennis Criss of Wynne, Kelly Cris, of Colt; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be today, Friday, June 23, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Morgan Chapel with Rev. Chelch Reagan officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Everett Matthew West
Everett Matthew West, age 78, of Mantachie, Miss., formerly of Colt, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, Miss.
Mr. West was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Judsonia to John J. West and Mollissia Lowder West. On June 29, 1946, he married Evelyn Thompson West, who survives. West was a veteran of the United States Army and served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired foreman for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department in Wynne. Mr. West lived in Colt most of his life until moving to Ash Flat with his wife and later moving to Mississippi. He was a member of the Pioneer Freewill Baptist Church in Ash Flat and was a former Sunday School teacher.
Mr. West is survived by his wife, Evelyn; four sons, Doug West of Moro, Lonnie West of Mantachie, Miss., Randy West of Bella Vista, Phil West of Springdale; one daughter, Anita Holt of Cherry Valley; three brothers, Dick West and Chuck West, both of Mountainburg, Donnie West of Kenosha, Wisc.; four sisters, Ruby Everly of Michigan City, Ind, Imogene Joslin of Morongo Valley, Calif., Bonnie Roberts of New Buffalo, Mich., Maxine Painter of Mountainburg; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. West was preceded in death by two brothers, Manuel and Preston West and by two sisters, Theldie West and Genevive Scissom.
Funeral services for Mr. West were to be today, Friday, June 23, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Smith Chapel Baptist Church near Wynne, with Rev. J. T. Baskins, officiating and assisted by Rev. Frank Feathers. Burial followed in Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne and McCrory.
