Rev. Undra Fitzgerald Phillips-Jackson
Rev. Undra Fitzgerald Phillips-Jackson, age 31, of Forrest City, died Sunday, March 19, 2000.
Rev. Jackson is formerly the associate minister at Mt. Sinai M.B. Church in Washington, D. C., and a psychologist with the Department of Human Services in Washington, D. C.
He is survived by his mother, Althea Jordan of Forrest City; his stepfather, James Jordan of Forrest City; his father, Willie Jackson of Chicago, Ill.; his stepmother, Judy Jackson of Chicago Ill.; one sister, Margo Phillips of Forrest City; two brothers, Willie Jackson of Chicago Ill., Troy Jackson of Memphis, Tenn.; and his grandparents Edgar and Ethel Jackson of Prentiss, Miss.
Services will be Saturday, March 25, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Rising Sun M.B. Church with Rev. James Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Stanley Grove Cemetery under the direction Kennedy Funeral Home.
Lennie M. Gowder
Lennie M. Gowder, age 96, of Colt, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Gowder was born April 12, 1903, and is survived by one brother, Herman Gowder; two sisters, Madge Witherspoon and Lois Witherspoon both of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2000, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Services will be held, Saturday, March 25, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Pine Tree Church of God in Christ. Elder Verlee Lucas will officiate. Burial will be in Stanley Grove Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Robert Greenhaw
Robert Greenhaw, age 81, of Colt, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at a hospital in Jonesboro.
Mr. Greenhaw was born Oct. 29, 1918, and was the son of Charlie Greenhaw and Arby Rimmer Greenhaw. He was a farm mechanic, a U. S. Army-Air Force Veteran and a member of the Village Creek Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn in 1945.
He is survived by his wife, Maxie Greenhaw of Colt; five sons, Leslie of Trumann, Terry of Wynne, Darrel of Iowa, Jimmy and Steve, both of Jonesboro; three daughters, Linda Smith of Memphis, Mary Campbell of Colt, Debbie McGreger of Bruce, Miss.; a brother, Amberis Greenhaw of Russellville; two sisters, Gracy Towns of Russellville, Inas Camp of Manila; 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will by Friday, March 24, 2000, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 25, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Village Creek Baptist Church with Brother Albert Young officiating, assisted by Brother Neal Clark and Brother Darrell Cordell. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Willard Wade
Willard Wade, age 48, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in his home.
Mr. Wade was born August 2, 1951, in Marianna to Lula Mae Wade.
He is survived by his mother; his wife, Willie Mae Wade of Forrest City; two daughters, Latresha Wade and Shaketra Wade, both of Forrest City; one son, Keronn Wade of Forrest City; seven brothers, Larry Wade, William Wade, Lonnie Wade, all of Forrest City, Ivory Wade of Beloit, Wis., Robert Wade, Tommy Wade, Wilbert Wade, all of Milwaukee, Wis.; and four sisters, Velma Turman, Rosie Donner, Joyce Hayes, all of Milwaukee, Wis. and Joann Norris of Little Rock.
Services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2000, at 2 p.m., at Spring Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Taper will officiate with burial to follow at Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Tommy Ervin Owens
Mr. Tommy Ervin Owens, age 53, of Clarksville, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, in Kingston, Ark.
Mr. Owens, a retired coach, counselor and educator in schools in Forrest City, Mountain Home, Marked Tree and Lamar, was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, where he was chairman of deacons, Sunday School director and assistant music director. He was a graduate of College of the Ozarks and received a masters degree from Arkansas State University.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Gail Dennis Owens, of Clarksville; a son, Steven Owens of Clarksville; two sisters, Wanda Scholtes of Chicago, Ill., Neomia Louise Wise of Clarksville; three brothers, Truman Owens of Russelville, James Owens of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Carl Owens of Berryville.
Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2000, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roller Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville. Services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church in Clarksville with burial to follow in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
Gene Ray Jackson
Mr. Gene Ray Jackson, age 54, of Forrest City, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Jackson was born April 3, 1945, in Colt, the son of Isaiah Davis, Sr. and Ida Jewell Jackson-Adams.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Jackson and one sister, Helen Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Florine Jackson of Forrest City; one daughter, LaShonda Michill Jackson of Dallas, Texas; one son, Terry Williams Sr. of Forrest City; his step-father, John Henry Adams of Palestine; his step-mother, Mary Davis of Detroit, Mich.; 12 brothers, Gaylon Jenkins and Robert White, both of Flint, Mich., Willie White of Forrest City, John Henry Adams Jr. of Palestine, Jessie Adams and Howard White both of Texas, Isaiah Davis Jr., Willie Davis, Alfred Davis, Lee Davis, Jerry Davis, Darrell Davis, all of Detroit, Mich.; 10 sisters, Linder Williams, Ida Shaw, Susan Chism, Jeanie Mae, Lucinda Adams and Pegy Adams, all of Flint, Mich., Johnnie Mae Stone of Palestine, Shirley Horton of Memphis, Tenn., Ruthel Crosby of Illinois, Lena Denise Irby of Detroit Mich.; and one grandson.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Clay Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Services will be Thursday, March 30, 2000, at United Christian M.B. Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. William Gay will officiating. Burial will follow at Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home
Geneva Banks
Geneva Banks, age 79, of Heth, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in her home.
Mrs. Banks is survived by one sister, Zola Redman of Chicago, Ill.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2000, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Kennedy Funeral Home. Services are Friday, March 31, 2000, at noon at Jesus Center Holiness Church in West Memphis with J. W. Holder officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens in Edmondson under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Billy Gene DeVasier
Mr. Billy Gene DeVasier, age 69, of Forrest City, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City. He had been in poor health for the past year.
He was born Aug. 26, 1930, in Palestine, the son of William Greene DeVasier and Georgia Kirk Melvin DeVasier. He lived in Palestine until moving to Forrest City in 1956. He was a retired owner of Devasier Auto and Tractor Supply, was a veteran of the National Guard with 17 years of service, was a member of the Forrest City Water Commission, and was a member of First Baptist Church.
In 1950, he married Billie Sue Clifton, who survives him. He also leaves a son. Andy DeVasier of Forrest City; two sisters, Glendle Winslow of Forrest City and Bobbie Zerklebach of Dallas, Texas, and six grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Devasier will be held at First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, with burial in Bell Cemetery in Palestine. Visitation will be tonight, Friday, March 3, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge.
Benjmin Harper Sr.
Mr. Benjmin Harper Sr., age 75, of Madison, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at Crestpark Retirement Inn.
He was born March 21, 1924 in Madison, to Lemuel Harper and Mae Willie Armfield Harper. He was a veteran and retired from Shulze and Burch Biscuit Co.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife, Aretha Sims Harper of Madison; four daughters, DeRnice Harper, Michell Harper and Geraldine Harper of Madison and Vera Young of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Benjmin Harper Jr. of Gary, Ind. and Eugene Rolland of Nebraska; two sisters, Sammie L. Thompson and Besty Thompson, both of Chicago; three brothers, Tommy Harper, Charles Harper and Alfred Harper, both of Chicago; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at Madison Light Baptist Church, with Rev. Lonzo Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow at Madison Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Benny Ray Snelson
Mr. Benny Ray Snelson, age 56, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Forrest City, after a long illness.
Born July 25, 1943, he was the son of Homer Snelson and Birgia Colvin Snelson. He worked as a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of the home; his daughter, Velma Ball of Forest City; two brothers, Leroy Snelson of Forrest City and Alvin Snelson of Marianna; and a sister, Betty Moore, of Texas.
Visitation will be tonight, Friday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services for Mr. Snelson will be held graveside at Hughes Cemetery Saturday, March 4, with Bro. Vance Jumper officiating. Morgan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
William "Billy" Aaron Gardner
William "Billy" Aaron Gardner, age 75, of Martinez, Ga., died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at the VA Hospital.
A native of Chaffee, Mo., he had lived in the Augusta, Ga., area for the past 45 years. He was a member of the U.S. Navy and a veteran of World War II. He received a Purple Heart and the World War Victory Medal. He was a member of Bayvale Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Gardner of Martinez, Ga.; his mother, India Parkinson Matlock of Forrest City; two sons, Alfred Kandler of San Antonio, Texas, Rev. Ted Kandler of Thomaston, Ga.; a daughter, Carla Brown of Thomaston, Ga.; two brothers, Allen Gardner of Walls, Miss., Fred Gardner of Colt; three sisters, Hazel Kelso and Linda Boren, both of Forrest City, Jodie Ellison of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today, Friday, March 31, 2000, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliot Sons Funeral Home in Martinez, Ga. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Bayvale Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Carvalho, Rev. James Bland and Rev Lloyd Green officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to the American Heart Association.
