Glenn Allen Wilson
Glenn Allen Wilson, I, age 67, of Wynne, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne.
Wilson, a mechanic for Filn Transit in North Little Rock for over 12 years, was a Baptist and a veteran of the United States Army. He served during the Korean War. He was a former resident of Colt, before moving to Little Rock, where he lived for 16 years until moving to Wynne in 1997. He was married June 10, 1954, to Shirley Kennedy.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Shirley Wilson of Wynne; three sons, Glenn Wilson, II, of Mobile, Ala., Tim Wilson, I, of Wynne, and Charles Wilson, of Little Rock; one brother, Orie Wilson of Blytheville; three sisters, Mollie Fusell, of Colt, Clara Castle, of Meridian, Miss., and Bonita Scruggs, of Memphis, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Wilson are scheduled for Friday, May 12, 2000, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne with burial to follow in the Hughes Cemetery in Forrest City. Rev. O. D. Winfrey of Walnut Ridge will officiate. Visitation for Mr. Wilson will be Thursday, May 11, 2000, from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.
Jay Lee Brown
Mr. Jay Lee Brown age 64, of Forrest City, died Sunday, May 14, 2000 at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Brown, a farmer, was born June 22, 1935, and is survived by his father, Willie Brown of Forrest City; his wife, Dimple Brown of Forrest City; four sons, McClinton Brown of Houston, Texas, Edward Brown of Forrest City and Curits Brown of Alice Springs, Australia and Eric Brown of Marion; three daughters, Linda Dukes of Chicago, Ill., Erica Brown of Forrest City and Ruth Brown of Forrest City; one brother, Virge Haymer of Forrest City; three sisters, Mae Bell Bryant of Springfield, Mo., Ethel Brown of Forrest City and Willie Mae Holland of Forrest City; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 17, 2000 from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Services for Mr. Brown will be Thursday, May 18, 2000, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Cross St. with Rev. Theo Walker officiating. Burial will follow in New Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Elwanda Frances Campbell
Elwanda Frances Campbell, age 78, died May 13, 2000, in Del City, Okla.
She was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Center Hill, and spent her life in Paragould before moving to Forrest City in 1947. While living in Forrest City she served as Church Secretary at the First Baptist Church and later worked at Production Credit Association. She worked for Farm Credit Associations in the southeast until retiring in 1986 in Del City, Okla. She was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Del City, Okla.
She is survived by a son, Gerald Campbell, of Choctaw, Okla; a brother, Jim Little, of Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Orinta Hinkle, of West Helena, Louisine Keller, of Irving, Texas; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at First Southern Baptist Church in Del City, Okla with burial at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
Donald E. Nesbitt
Donald E. Nesbitt, age 68, of Forrest City, died Thursday, May, 18, 2000, at the Regional Trauma Center in Memphis.
Mr. Nesbitt, born April 28, 1932, in Alexandria, La., was the son of Clifton Nesbitt and Opal C. Welch Nesbitt. He lived in Forrest City most of his life, was a retired truck driver, a National Guard veteran and attended the Church of God in Forrest City.
Mr. Nesbitt married Urene Balentine in 1978 and she survives him along with three step-sons; Rev. Leon Burns, Billy Don Burns and Steve Burns, all of Mt. View; one brother, Clifton Nesbitt Jr., of Little Rock; one sister, Laura Nesbitt Hunter, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Nesbitt will be held in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2000. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2000, at the Fifty-six Cemetery in Fifty-six. Memorials may be made to the Church of God building fund. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Sunday, May 21, 2000, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.
Kathryn Beazley Pearcy
Kathryn Beazley Pearcy, age 86, of Forrest City, died Thursday, May 18, 2000.
Mrs. Pearcy was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Forrest City, to Walton Beazley and Myrtle May Beazley. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Circle # 2 of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Pankey, of Newport; two sisters, Bernice Sprouse, of Harpers Ferry, W. Va., Charlotte Sly, of Edwardsville, Ill.; a brother, Harry Beazley, of Conway; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held graveside, Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Dr. Reece W. Phillips
Dr. Reece W. Phillips, age 78, of Forrest City, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at his home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1921 in Hot Springs County to Samuel Phillips and Rozella Bailey. He graduated from Arkansas A & M College in Magnolia and enlisted in the Navy during World War II and graduated from the Naval Reserve Midshipmen School at Columbia University. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1947 and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. In 1952 he graduated from the Iowa State School of Veterinary medicine. He practiced veterinary medicine In Forrest City for over forty years prior to his death. He was active in the Republican Party throughout his life, founded the St. Francis County Republican Party and was a delegate to the 1968 Republican National Convention. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Forrest City.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettye Francis Martin, in 1947.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Phillips; a daughter, Linda Lou Phillips, of Springdale; a son, Jim Phillips, of Fayetteville; a stepson, Dennis Robertson; a sister, Ruby Jean Toler, of Malvern; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at 10 a.m. at First Methodist Church with Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery in Malvern under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Kathryn Carr Busby
Kathryn Carr Busby, of Colt, died Monday at the St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Busby was born in Parkin and was the daughter of Joseph Arthur Carr and Mattie Harper Carr. She lived in St. Francis County all her life, was a homemaker and a member of the Crowley's Ridge Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Homewood Cockmon, of Forrest City; a son, Michael Anthony Barksdale, of Longview, Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Eldridge, of Colt, Fran Templeman, of Heber Springs, Bobbie Eldridge, of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday at Stevens Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Dr. J. E. Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Hughes Cemetery with Stevens Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.
Bonnetta Hawkins
Bonnetta Hawkins, age 79, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and the St. John M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Florzell Hawkins Sr.
She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn Hawkins, of Marianna, Mildred Hillary, of Lufkin, Texas; Margaret Hampton and Mary Pruitt, both of Berkly, Mo.; three sons, Maxie Hawkins and Florzell Hawkins, both of Gary, Ind., Melvin Hawkins, of Joliet, Ind.; a brother, Ulysses Marshall, of St. Louis, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today, Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at St. John M.B. Church with Rev. Spencer Brown officiating. Burial was in St. John Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Joseph Leroy Bieber
Joseph Leroy Bieber, age 81, of Blue Mountain, Miss., died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Bieber was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Memphis, and was the son of Clarence Bieber and Bessie Harris Bieber. He lived in Forrest City before moving to Mississippi in November. He was a World War II veteran and was retired from Buckeye Cellulose Company.
He is survived by three sons, Rickey Joe Bieber, of Mississippi, Jerry Lynn Bieber and Dale Lee Bieber, both of Forrest City; a daughter, Linda Jo Brazeale, of Forrest City; a step-son, Shelly Bieber, of Forrest City; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held today, Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Cheslsey D "Troy" DeVasier
Chesley D "Troy" DeVasier, age 89, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mr. DeVasier, was born March 26, 1911, in Palestine, and was the son of William Leslie DeVasier and Myrtle Ellis DeVasier. He lived in Palestine all of his life, was a farmer and was retired from Yale Hoist Company . He was a member of the Palestine Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Bray in 1999 and two sons, Stanley DeVasier and Kenneth "J.D." DeVasier.
He is survived by three sisters, Katie Jumper, of Palestine, Ruby Jewel Otto, of California, Noralee Nelson, of Mississippi; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 25, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 26, 2000, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
