Catherine Dennis
Ms. Catherine Dennis, age 69, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at her home in St. Louis, Mo.
Ms. Dennis was born Aug. 31, 1931 in Palestine.
Graveside services for Ms. Dennis were held Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 at J. B. National Cemetery with Bro. Gregory Johnson officiating. Funeral arrangements were by Southern Funeral Home.
Delia Louise Williams
Mrs. Delia Louise Williams, age 85, of Palestine, died on Friday Sept. 15, 2000.
Mrs. Williams was born on Sept. 5, 1915, in Fordsville, Ky. She was the daughter of Samuel Crowe and Helen Attola Hedden Crowe. She lived in Palestine most of her life. She was a housewife and a member of the Palestine Church of Christ.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Alfred Williams, two daughters, Sharon Kay Haynes and Vickie Lynn Hawk; one son, Dale Williams; one brother, Hardin Crowe; one sister, Beatrice Halbert, all of Palestine. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Palestine Church of Christ on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at 3 p.m., with Bro. Jerry Bates officiating. Burial followed at Bell Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
David Walter Davies, Jr.
Mr. David Walter Davies, Jr., age 79, of Leawood, Kan., died on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000.
Mr. Davies was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Higbee, Mo. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia and was retired from the Carter-Waters Corporation, after 19 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian H. Davies. He is survived by one son, David W. Davies III of Leawood; one daughter, Ann Delair of Overland Park, Kan.; a niece Jan Haven of Forrest City; and two grandsons.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City. There will be a graveside service held at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City, on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m., under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Alberta Powell
Mrs. Alberta Powell, age 46, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Powell was born Dec. 7, 1953, in Forrest City. She had been a clerk for the East Central Arkansas Economic Development Corporation.
Mrs. Powell is survived by her mother, Jimmie Rucker, of Forrest City; one son, Andre Rucker, of Forrest City; two daughters, Kolandra Rucker, and Odessa Powell, both of Forrest City; two brothers, Albert Rucker Jr., and Oze H. Rucker, both of Forrest City; two sisters, Yvonne Rucker, of Forrest City and Marilyn Campbell, of Fayetteville.
Visitation for Mrs. Powell will be Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Church of Christ, with the Rev. Robert Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Garden Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Arthur Gregory Robinson
Mr. Arthur Gregory Robinson, age 24, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000.
Mr. Robinson was born on May 18, 1976 in Forrest City, to Arthur L. Rogers and Elizabeth McKnight Robinson.
He is survived by his parents, both of Forrest City; a daughter, Porsha Robinson of Colt; three sisters, Sarah Robinson, Ida Robinson, and Evelyn Robinson, all of Forrest City.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Salem Baptist Church at 2 p.m., with Rev. John Strong officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Rebecca Corrine Tyer
Rebecca Corrine Tyer, age 91, of Russellville, and former resident of the Burdette community, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Stella Manor Nursing Home in Russellville.
Ms. Tyer was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Abberville, Miss., to John and Eggie Ware Gafford. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
Ms. Tyer is preceded in death by two daughters, Polly Meyers, of Forrest City, and Kathleen Carson. She is survived by three daughters, Virginia Powell, of Blytheville; Mary Stumbaugh, of Russellville; and Betty Barch, of Memphis, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Ms. Tyer will be Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. L.V. Rigney officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.
Jewell S. Gustafson
Mrs. Jewell S. Gustafson, age 88, of Memphis, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Primacy Health Care in Memphis.
Mrs. Gustafson was a retired beautician with Atkins Beauty Shop. She was a member of Kingsway Christian Church, and an avid participant in Senior Centers with the Memphis Park Commission.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Gustafson. Mrs. Gustafson is survived by two sons, Carl E. Gustafson, of Bothell, Wash., Bob Gustafson, of Loveland, Ohio.; one sister, Lillie Swinea, of Memphis and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gustafson will be Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at 10 a.m., at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel in Memphis. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City.
Allen Clark
Mr. Allen Clark, age 59, of Colt, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Clark, born June 2, 1941, in Colt, was the son of Allen Cook Clark and Leta Mae Roy Clark. He was retired from Yale Industries and attended Caldwell Baptist Church.
In 1969 he married Carolyn Green and she survives him along with a son, William Allen Clark of Colt; a daughter, Dawn Hinkle of Colt; three sisters, Bobbie Lewis and Elizabeth Pounders, both of Colt and Ruth Bowman, of Greenbrier; and one granddaughter.
Visitation for Mr. Clark will be Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Services for Mr. Clark will be held Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Memorials are to be made to the American Heart Association.
Mary Bell Like
Mary Bell Like, age 79, of Colt, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in her home.
Mrs. Like, was born Mar. 4, 1921, in Etowah to James Elbert Virgin and Cora Bishop. She was retired from Sanyo and had lived in Colt most of her life. She was a member of the House of Prayer.
In 1936 Mrs. Like married George Like and he preceded her in death in 1993.
She is survived by four daughters, Betty Middleton, of Wynne, Ruby McCrary, of Forrest City, Jeanie Webb, of Colt, Cathy Walls, of Pine Tree; six sons, Jimmy Like, Alvie Like, Norman Like, Noal Like, all of Colt, Roy Like, of Caldwell, Wayne Like of Forrest City; 38 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Like will be held Wednesday, Spet. 27, 2000, at the House of Prayer at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Virginia "Nicky" Dwyer Ross
Mrs. Virginia "Nicky" Dwyer Ross, age 72, of Forrest City, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in Memphis.
Mrs. Ross was a Communicant of St. Francis Catholic Church in Forrest City. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ross, and her son John Ross Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Quinn and Marie Ross, both of Memphis; two sons, Marty Ross, of Memphis, and Sean Ross, of Little Rock; a sister, Elizabeth Foley, of Memphis; a brother, Robert Dwyer, of Memphis; and two grandsons.
There will be a Memorial Mass for Mrs. Ross on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at 11 a.m., at Poor Clare Monastery in Memphis, with burial following at Lucy Cemetery. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
