Annie Ayers
Mrs. Annie Ayers, age 86, of Chicago, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago.
A graveside service for Mrs. Ayers, born Feb. 16, 1914, in Hazen, was held recently in Hazen Cemetery in Hazen under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Samuel Leroy Chalker
Mr. Samuel Leroy Chalker, aged 94, of Kingsport, Tenn., died Sunday, April 8, 2001.
Mrs. Chalker was born July 14, 1906, in Gibson County, Tenn. He was a graduate of Trimble High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Gideons for 52 years. He was a member of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Forrest City, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport at the time of his death.
He lived in Forrest City from 1955 until 1983. He retired from Tom's Snack Foods in 1972.
Mr. Chalker was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Chalker and Jimmie Edmiston Chalker; and by three brothers, Glenn Chalker, Fay Chalker and Lexie Chalker.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mary Virginia Long Chalker of Kingsport; two daughters, Florence Godat of Kingsport and Marguerite Hortenstine of Gig Harbor, Wash.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, with Rev. Gary L. R. Bulalrd and Rev. Beth Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery Under the direction of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.
The family requests that donations be made to the Gideons, or the First Presbyterian Church.
Jewel Cook Compton
Mrs. Jewel Cook Compton, age 81, of Stuttgart, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Compton was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Dalton. She was the daughter of James F. Cook and Addie Tilda Hall Cook. She was a cattle farmer.
Mrs. Compton was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Cook and three sisters, Wildean King, Vada Jenkins and Cleva Jean Montgomery.
She is survived by four daughters, Patricia Smith of Forrest City, Julia L. Lee and Marcia L. Schultz, both of Stuttgart and Diana L. Holland of Conway; a brother, James Cook of Dalton; two sisters, Juanita Wilson of Pocahontas and Tiney Byrd of Waterford, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Compton were held today, Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with G.W. Allison officiating the service. Burial followed in Randolph Memorial Gardens under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.
Donald Ray Hall
Mr. Donald Ray Hall, age 60, of Colt, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Hall was born March 16, 1941 in Wynne. He was the son of Elmer Hall and Ruth Kelso. Mr. Hall lived in Colt most of his life and was a past employee of Airtherm, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Mr. Hall married Ruby Rigney in 1961, and she survives him along with one son, Andrew Ray Hall of Memphis; one daughter, Nicole Smith of Springfield, Mo.; his father and step-mother, Elmer and Doris Hall of Searcy; his mother, Ruth Shelton of Forrest City; a brother, Jeff Pickens of Texas; a sister, Janell Williams of Jonesboro and a granddaughter.
Visitation for Mr. Hall will be Tuesday, April 10, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Loughridge Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Memorials are to be made to the American Cancer Society.
John W. Parsley
Mr. John W. Parsley, age 78, of Forrest City, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Parsley was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Pocahontas. He was the son of Grover Walton Parsley and Eula Mae Stalnaker Parsley. Mr. Parsley made his home in Forrest City the past 38 years. He was a farmer and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Mr. Parsley married Betty Jane Young in 1951, and she preceded him in death in 1993. He is survived by three daughters, Dianna Ryan of Santa Cruz, Calif., Sheila Young of Alexander and Judy Furnish of Little Rock; one son, Don Parsley of Caruthersville, Mo; two sisters, Joyce Zimmerman of Calif. and Ouida Mullaly of Bradenton, Fla.; four brothers, D.R. Parsley of Cotton Plant, Royce Gerald Parsley of Mountainview, Harold Dean Parsley of Indiana and Jan Parsley of California; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held graveside, Wednesday, April, 11, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Orland D. Teague
Mr. Orland D. Teague, age 76, of Quitman, died Sunday, April 8, 2001.
Mr. Teague was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Vilonia to Leonard G. and Laura Johnson Teague. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a power plant operator in the U.S. Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Teague was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Lee Teague
He is survived by four sons, Michael Teague of Quitman, Gary Teague, Bob Teague and Orland Dee Teague, all of Mountain Home; one brother, Orville Teague of Mt. Ida; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held for Mr. Teague, Thursday, April 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills Cemetery in Sherwood under the direction of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
Justiss Webber
Miss Justiss Webber, age 10 months, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at LeBonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis.
Miss Webber, born May 22, 2000, was the daughter of Edward Webber and Marcie Ingram Webber, both of Memphis. She is also survived by a sister, Sharonda Ingram Bridgeforth of Memphis.
A graveside service for Miss Webber was held today, April 10, 2001, with Mr. V.B. Rose officiating at Stanley Grove Cemetery in Caldwell under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Leroy Crawford
Mr. Leroy Crawford, age 68, of Forrest City, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.
Mr. Crawford, born May 18, 1932, in Forrest City, was a retired stocker at Bonds Grocery. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Euwing of Forrest City; a sister, Quantine Crawford of Forrest City; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Visitation for Mr. Crawford is scheduled for Friday, April 13, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Crawford are scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Rising Sun M.B. Church with Rev. John Strong officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Mary "Frances" Passer
Mrs. Mary "Frances" Passer, age 71, of Klamath Falls, Ore., died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Merle West Medical Center.
Mrs. Passer was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Forrest City. She was the daughter of Clarence Holmes Sr., and Myrtle Gadberry Holmes. Mrs. Passer worked as a foodservice dietitian for Port Mesa Convalescent Home in Newport Beach, Califorinia for 25 years and worked as a caregiver in home health care for the elderly. She was a member of TOPS in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Mrs. Passer is survived by three daughters, Cassandra Pritchett of Klamath Falls, Ore., Linda Fair of Garden Grove, Calif. and Karla Russell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son, Bruce Passer of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a brother, Clarence Holmes Jr., of Westminister, Calif.

Cansolia Allen Spears
Mrs. Cansolia Allen Spears, age 71, of Colt, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Spears, born Nov. 19, 1929, in Sugarlark, Miss., was the daughter of Henry Allen and Mattie Lockett Allen.
Mrs. Spears is survived by her husband, Ralph Spears of Colt; two daughters, Mattie Spears of Forrest City and Florine Brandon of Chicago, Ill.; four sons, Edward Harris of Forrest City, James Bryson of Green River, Wyo., McArthur Spears of Chicago, Ill. and James Spears of Colt; a sister, Inez Johnson of Memphis; two brothers, George Allen of Amarillo, Texas and James Allen of Memphis; 30 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Spears will be Friday, April 13, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be Saturday, April 14, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. at Poplar Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Willard Gibson officiating under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
