Otha Ruth Siler
Mrs. Otha Ruth Siler, age 88 of Pleasant Plains died Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mrs. Siler was born on Oct. 22, 1912, in Denmark. She was the daughter of James and Lizzie Watkins Ransom. Mrs. Siler was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Plains Church of Christ.
Mrs. Siler was preceded in death by her husband Harvie Siler. She is survived by two sons, Glen Siler of Marianna and Tom Siler of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Barbara Phillips of Jasper, Tenn.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Siler will be Thursday, April 5, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Pleasant Plains. Funeral services will be Friday, April 6, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Powell Funeral Home with burial to follow in Pleasant Plains Cemetery under the direction of Powell Funeral Home.
Maxine Cox Allen
Mrs. Maxine Cox Allen died March 13, 2001, at Charleston, R.I.
She grew up in Forrest City, but spent most of her adult life in Nevada, Mo. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pete Writer of Charleston, R.I. and Toni Bosler of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Laverne Futrell of Wynne and Frances McPhail of Slate Springs, Miss.
She was the widow of Dr. William Allen and the sister of the late Onice Faupel of Forrest City.
Funeral services were held in Nevada, Mo. with burial following in Rich Hill, Mo.
Pearlie Mae Berry
Mrs. Pearlie Mae Berry, age 55, of Widener, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born March 4, 1946, in Round Pond, the daughter of the late Willie Howard and Elnora Howard. She was a housekeeper.
Mrs. Berry is survived by her husband, Troy Berry of Widener; four sons, Gregory Stacy of Forrest City, John Stacy of Widener, Leonard Woodard and Marco Woodard, both of Arlington, Texas; three daughters, Vanessa Norment of Forrest City, Stephanie McDaniel of Memphis and Shante Woodard of Forrest City; four brothers, Tommy Howard of Chicago, Johnny Howard of Memphis, Terry Howard and Elliot Howard, both of West Memphis; two sisters, Willie Mae Stamps and Flora Johnson, both of Chicago and 14 grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Berry will be held Monday, April 9, 2001, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at St. John M.B. Church Monday, April 9, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Marland Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Flossie M. Westmoreland
Mrs. Flossie M. Wright Westmoreland, age 68, of Parkin, formerly of Forrest City, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro.
She was born May 19, 1932, in Greene County, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ella Wicker Wright. She was a graduate of Parkin High School. In 1953 she married Fred Westmmoreland, who survives her. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Parkin.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Westmoreland is survived by two sons, Terry Westmoreland and Mark Westmoreland, both of Wynne; a daughter, Holly Lee Todd of Paragould; three sisters, Doris Pressgrove of Jonesboro, Opal Whitener of Madison, Miss. and Cleavie Godaux of Parkin and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Dossie Wright; and by three sisters, Florine Wood, Edith Jones and Elanor Neimeyer.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the First Baptist Church of Parkin, with the Rev. John Finn officiating, assisted by the Rev. Johnny Green. Burial will be in the Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery at Marion under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Parkin.
James Halford Baty
Mr. James Halford Baty, age 74, of Widener, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Baty was a carpenter, a member of the VFW and Good Hope Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Davis Baty of Widener; two daughters, Patricia Ann Sidle of Orlando, Fla. and Jeannie Furno of Culleoka, Tenn.; two sons, Jimmy Baty of Summertown, Tenn. and Timothy Baty of Widener; two brothers, Robert Baty of Marion and Leon Baty of Adrian, Mich.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Baty were held today, Monday, April 9, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church. Burial followed in Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Citizen Funeral Home in West Memphis.
Jewel Compton
Mrs. Jewel Cook Compton, age 81 of Stuttgart, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Compton was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Dalton. She was the daughter of James F. Cook and Addie Tilda Hall Cook. She was a cattle farmer.
Mrs. Compton was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Cook and three sisters, Wildean King, Vada Jenkins and Cleva Jean Montgomery.
She is survived by three daughters, Julia L. Lee and Marcia L. Schultz, both of Stuttgart and Diana L. Holland of Conway; a brother, James Cook of Dalton; two sisters, Juanita Wilson of Pocahontas and Tiney Byrd of Waterford, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Compton will be held Monday, April 9, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m., at McNabb Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with G.W. Allison officiating the service. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.
Ethel Mae Jones
Mrs. Ethel Mae Jones, age 60, of Forrest City, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
Mrs. Jones was born March 29, 1941 in Elaine. She was the daughter of Tommy and Margaret McClendon.
Mrs. Jones is survived by three sons, Jerry Lee Jones of Markhamik, Ill, Michael R. Jones and David Jones, both of Forrest City; a sister, Margree Lacy of Forrest City; three brothers, David McClendon of Vero Beach, Fla., Roosevelt McClendon of Detroit, Mich. and Claude Boyd of Chicago, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Jones will be Tuesday, April 10, 2001, from 12 to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at noon at the Church of God with Elder James Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
George W. "James" McCombs
Mr. George W. "James" McCombs, age 65, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Methodist Health Care in Memphis.
Mr. McCombs, born Nov. 21, 1935, in Georgia, was the son of James W. and Eddie Dossie McCombs. He was a member of St. Smyrna Baptist Church.
Mr. McCombs is survived by his wife, Ora Lee Forest Young McCombs of the home; two daughters, Kathy McCombs Smith and Marilyn McCombs Smith; two sons, Stephen McCombs and Chris Benning; two stepdaughters, Dianne Walker and Angela Watson; three brothers, Roosevelt McCombs, Jackie McCombs and Sidney McCombs; four sisters, Mattie Jackson, Bobbie Robinson, Emily Harmon and Bernice McCombs; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Sewell.
Funeral services for Mr. McCombs were held Saturday, March, 24, 2001, at St. Smyrna Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga., with Rev. J.W. Russell Jr. officiating under the direction of Sellers-Smith Funeral Home Inc., in Newnan.
Izora Good
Mrs. Izora Good, age 82, of Brinkley, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at the Arkansas Hospice Center in North Little Rock.
Mrs. Good, born April 14, 1919, in Lafe, was the daughter of Albert and Harriet Carnett Cole. She lived most of her life in the Wheatley and Brinkley areas. Mrs. Good was a member of the Goodwin Baptist Church in Goodwin, the women's missionary union and the home demonstration club.
Mrs. Good was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Earl "Dock" Good and a granddaughter, Kim Woods, of Austin, Texas.
She is survived by a son, Albert Good, of Wheatley; three daughters, Joyce Pillow, of Batesville, Joan Shumate of Branch and Jane Woods of Brinkley; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Good will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Goodwin Baptist Church with Dr. J.E. Hughes and Bro. Bill Good officiating with burial to follow in Johnston Funeral Home under the direction of Fowler Funeral Home. There will be a visitation service tonight, Tuesday, July 31, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fowler Funeral Home.
Loyd Arthur Howell
Mr. Loyd Arthur Howell, age 83, of Memphis, died, Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Memphis.
Mr. Howell, a retired carpenter, was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Howell. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Perry of Forrest City and Hazel Edgens of Cedartown, Ga.; and a brother Joe Howell of Chapel Hill, Va.
Funeral services for Mr. Howell will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Forest Hill East Chapel in Memphis Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Forest Hill East Funeral Home in Memphis.
