Darren McFadden
Mr. Darren McFadden, age 35, of Detroit, Mich., died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Detroit.
Mr. McFadden, born, Dec. 13, 1965, was the son of Howard McFadden and Roberta Greer McFadden. He was a 1984 graduate of Forrest City High School and was employed as a shop manager at McFadden Tire and Road Service in Detroit.
Mr. McFadden is survived by four children, Montrell McFadden and Darren McFadden, Tawrren McFadden and Darelisha McFadden; his parents; two sisters, Falisha M. Wright of Colt and Loretta M. Foney of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Ronald McFadden of Forrest City and Sean and Marcus McFadden, both of Detroit, Mich.; grandparents Sam and Mildred McFadden, of Colt; and a host of aunts and uncles.
Funeral services for Mr. McFadden will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at noon at Zion Temple Church of God in Christ in Caldwell with Pastor Jesse Eugene McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery in Caldwell under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Wynne and Pye Funeral Home of Detroit, Mich.
Mima Lee Sims
Mrs. Mima Lee Sims, age 86, of Caldwell, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Crestpark Nursing Home.
Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and was a member of the Rising Sun M.B. Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Fryer of Forrest City; two sons, Harold Johnson of Grand Rapids, Mich. and James Johnson of Forrest City; two sisters, Willie Frazier and Samantha Dunlap, both of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Tolbert Chism of Youngstown, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sims were held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Rising Sun M.B. Church, with Rev. Olin Shurn officiating. Burial followed in Stanley Grove Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Gerri Kimbrell
Mrs. Gerri Kimbrell, age 70, of Tulsa, Okla., died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Tulsa, Okla.
Mrs. Kimbrell, formerly of Forrest City, was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Woodruff County, and was the daughter of Oscar Fraze and Nola Mae Fowler Fraze. She worked at Wal-Mart prior to retirement, and was a member of the American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Kimbrell was also active in Girl's State, the Susan B. Korman Breast Cancer Foundation, the Hospice Program in Forrest City, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forrest City and Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kimbrell in 1983; her parents and three brothers.
Mrs. Kimbrell is survived by two sons, Michael Kimbrell of Jonesboro and Mark Kimbrell of Bentonville; a daughter, Patti Hughes of Tulsa, Okla.; four sisters, Christine Carter, Pauline Tucker and Vivian Maulden, all of McCrory, and Jane Baswell of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation for Mrs. Kimbrell will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Morgan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Forrest City, with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Jim Roberts
Mr. Jim Roberts, age 69, of Forrest City, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Roberts was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Forrest City, and was the son of E.C. "Butch" Roberts and Mary Turk Roberts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired river boat captain and a member of many lodges. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.
Mr. Roberts is survived by a son, Butch Roberts of Marion; a daughter, Cathy Roberts of Little Rock; two sisters, Katie Miller of Collierville, Tenn. and Barbara Forbess of Flatwood, Ky.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Roberts will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled the same day at 2 p.m., with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
The family request memorials be sent in lieu of flowers to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
Juanita White
Mrs. Juanita White, age 77, of Hughes, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
Mrs. White is survived by three daughters, Catherine Miller of Jacksonville, Roberta White of Hughes and Linda D. Kadelak of Fayetteville, N.C.; five sons, Jesse White and Tommy White, both of Hughes, Eddie White Jr. of Jacksonville, David White of Palestine and Joe White of Dallas, Texas; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. White will be held tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Anthony Funeral Home Chapel in Anthonyville. Funeral services for Mrs. White will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at noon, at Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church in Hughes. Burial will follow in Paradise Garden Cemetery in Edmondson, under the direction of Anthony Funeral Home.
Margaret Butler Gatten
Mrs. Margaret Butler Gatten, age 83, of Charlotte, N.C. died, Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in North Carolina.
Mrs. Gatten, born Sept. 30, 1918, in Forrest City, was the daughter of Ralph Carroll Butler and Julia Dawson Butler. Mrs. Gatten was a retired teacher who had also lived in Dallas, Texas and Tuscumbia, Alabama. She was a Presbyterian by faith.
In 1942 Mrs. Gatten married Murray R. Gatten and he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Jacob A. Gowen. She is survived by a son, Ray Gatten of Charlotte, N.C.; an aunt, L.H. Scarbrough of Russellville; and a granddaughter.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Gatten will be held, Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Theatric Green Jr.
Mr. Theatric Green Jr., age 47, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Green, formerly of Forrest City, was born, Sept. 1, 1954, in Forrest City, to Theatric Green Sr. and Vivian Jones White. Mr. Green is survived by a daughter, Naobie Green of Forrest City; four sisters, Regenia Howard of Memphis, Renita Cole and Janette Moore, both of Forrest City and Helen Green of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Danny White of San Antonio, Texas and John White of Forrest City and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Green will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Moriah, M.B. Church with Rev. Alex Winfrey officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Jessie Mae Burton
Mrs. Jessie Mae Burton, age 87, of Marianna, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Burton was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Cedar Springs, Miss., and was the daughter of the late Sidney Mitchell and Levy Walker Mitchell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Walls Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her husband, Garfield Burton; two brothers, Hubert and John Mitchell; and two sistes, Maggie Story and Stella May.
She is survived by two sons, Loyd Burton of North Little Rock and William "Bill" Burton of Clarksville, Tenn.; three daughters, Wilma Dean Mathews of Palestine, Erma Jean Hendrix of Marianna and Betty Allshouse of Hot Springs; one brother, Homer Mitchell of Marianna; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burton were held today, Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Walls Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was officiated by Rev. David Scott and Rev. Randy Baker. Burial followed in Marianna Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of Marianna.
Frances Elizabeth Hartsfield
Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Hartsfield, age 87, of Memphis, and a former resident of Forrest City, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, in Memphis.
Mrs. Hartsfield was born June 23, 1914, in Providence, Ky. and was the daughter of Robert Lee Dever and Annie Clark Dever. She was retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in 1981 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forrest City.
Mrs. Hartsfield was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Hartsfield in 1989.
She is survived by one son, James Kenneth Hartsfield of Memphis.
There will be a graveside funeral service for Mrs. Hartsfield on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery with Rev. James Dean officiating the service. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Charles Lynn "Sonny" Clark
Mr. Charles Lynn "Sonny" Clark, age 73, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Clark, born Oct. 11, 1927, in St. Francis County, was the son of George Oscar Clark and Dewey Miranda Taylor Clark. He lived in St. Francis County all of his life, and was an employee of the Forrest City Police Department from 1962 to 1967. He was retired from Airtherm, and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
In 1985 Mr. Clark married Lavonne Brock, and she survives him along with two daughters, Linda Thweatt of Forrest City and Yvonne Stidham of Bald Knob; three step-sons, Bruce Thompson of Indiana, Gary Thompson of Michigan and John Thompson of Washington; a step-daughter, Carol Jean Cates of Indiana; two brothers, George Clark of Hazen and Clyde Clark of Forrest City; a sister, Louise Schasteen of Arizona; five grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Clark will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Clark will be held Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with burial to follow in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
