Elizabeth Parker Thompson
Mrs. Elizabeth Parker Thompson, age 80, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Forrest City, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001.
She was the daughter of Peter and Vozzie Parker and was a graduate of Lincoln High School.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Lola Parker, and a brother, Rudolf Parker.
She is survived by seven children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Friendship Baptist Church, in Detroit, Mich. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery. C.W. Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Larry D. Allen
Mr. Larry D. Allen, age 49, of Memphis, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in his home.
Mr. Allen is survived by two daughters, Chaundra Allen and Larrina Allen-Wilson; two brothers, Willie Franklin and William Allen; six sisters, Dorothy Statewright, Hattie Blackshire, Geraldine Crayton, Martha Davis, Bernice Fisher, and Debra Carter; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Allen will be Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at 2:30 p.m. in Union Baptist Church in Clarendon. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of McNeal Funeral Home.
Bessie Barron
Mrs. Bessie Barron, age 81, of Palestine, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Palestine.
Mrs. Barron was born on Sept. 11, 1919, in Hackelburg, Ala.. She was the daughter of A.M. Coons and Nellie Mae Frederick Coons. Mrs. Barron lived in St. Francis County most all of her life. She was retired from Reltoc Industries, and was a member of the Church of Christ in Palestine.
Mrs. Barron married Herman Clifton Barron in 1943, and he preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by one son, William Deckelman, of Proctor; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Barron will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m., in Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Farmhill Cemetery in Harrisburg. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Della Jett
Mrs. Della Jett, age 99, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Crestpark Nursing Home. Mrs. Jett was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church in Madison.
She is survived by her niece, Elouise Joyner, of Forrest City.
Visitation for Mrs. Jett will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Sat. Jan. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Kennedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. L.Z. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest City Cemetery. Kennedy Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Deric Kellum
Mr. Deric Kellum, age 38, of Chicago, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chicago.
Mr. Kellum is survived by his parents, Lonnie Marshbank and Dessie Marshbank; a son, Chauncey Carroll; a daughter, Mai Nicole Carroll; a brother, Gary Marshbank, all of Chicago, Ill.; and grandparents Odessie Droughn and Cora Marshbank, both of Forrest City and one grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Kellum will be Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. John M.B. Church in Madison with Rev. James Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Bessie Mae Kirkwood
Mrs. Bessie Mae Kirkwood, age 68, of Madison, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Kirkwood was a receptionist for Adult Day Care. She was a member of Mt. Sinai M.B. Church in Caldwell.
She is survived by six daughters, Barbara El-Nimeiri, of Chicago, Ill., Glenda Hollimon, of Seattle, Wash., Virgie Dyson, of Macillister, Okla., Gloria Hawkins, of Forrest City, Karen Kirkwood, of Madison, and Bessie Christopher, of West Memphis; four sons, Cleo Kirkwood, of Blytheville, Ronald Kirkwood, of Columbus, Ohio, Donald Kirkwood, of Denver, Colo., and Kelvin Kirkwood, of Pontiac, Mich.; two brothers, John Gaines, of Columbus, Ohio, and Lethel Vaughns, of Chicago, Ill.; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Kirkwood will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at 1 p.m., at Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church, with the Rev. Ronald Williams officiating. Jack Sorrells
Mr. Jack Sorrells, age 88, of Marianna, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Sorrells was born in England, on July 29, 1912. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sorrells. He had lived in Marianna most of his life.
Mr. Sorrells was preceded in death by a wife, Vivian Sorrells, and a son, Lonnie Anderson. He is survived by a son, Jackie Sorrells, of Marianna; five daughters, Agnes McNair, of Minot, N.D., Pauline Ward, Juanita Martin, both of Forrest City, Winsel Harper, of Lexa, Peggy Casteel, of Marianna; a brother, Harold Sorrells, of Wynne; three sisters, Nettie Davis, Margie Fisher, both of Marianna, Goldie Shepherd, of Holly Grove; 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at LaGrange Cemetery, with Bro. Gary Malone officiating. Fowler Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
The family requests memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society.
Frank Garfield Lewis Jr.
Mr. Frank Garfield Lewis Jr., aged 69, of Pocahontas, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
He was born June 14, 1931 in Mississippi County, a son of the late Exie Arbell Stutts Lewis and Frank Garfield Lewis Sr. He was a farmer.
Mr. Garfield is survived by his wife, Gloria Lewis, of Pocahontas; a son, Tim Lewis of Mineola, Texas; three daughters, Judy Littleton of Pocahontas, Cissie Newell of Phoenix, Ariz. and Nina Peterson of Fort Worth, Texas; three brothers, Jack Lewis of Dell, Hal Lewis of Doddridge and Bobby Lewis of Imboden; a sister, Frankie Ann Gaines of Thomasville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held today, Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Pocahontas, with the Rev. Don Strait officiating. Burial followed at Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon, under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas.
Anderson H. Williams Jr.
Mr. Anderson H. Williams Jr., aged 81, of Wilson, died Jan. 17, 2001. He was born March 20, 1919 in Cordell, Okla., a son of Anderson H. and Minnie Williams.
He was a veteran of World War II, a former 32nd Degree Mason and an avid golfer. He was retired from Home Oil Co. He was a member of the Osceola Church of Christ.
Mr. Williams leaves his wife of 55 yeas, Mary Cullom Williams; four sons, Andy Williams of Forrest City; Charles Williams of Wilson, Jerry Williams of Tulsa, Okla. and Joe Williams of Wilson; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at the Osceola Church and Christ.
Ralph Henry Ross
Mr. Ralph Henry Ross, age 61, of Tumbling Shoals, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 at Baptist Medical Center in Heber Springs.
Mr. Ross, born Feb. 27, 1939, was the son of Marvin Ross and Mary Bell Nicholas Ross. He lived in the St. Francis County area most of his life and was the owner of Ross Construction Company for 28 years. He retired to Tumbling Shoals 10 years ago.
Mr. Ross is survived by his wife Helen, of the home; four sons, Ricky Ross, of Lonoke, Allen Ross and Heath Ross, both of Caldwell, and Todd Ross of Haynes; a step-son, Bryan Meeks, of Dallas, Texas; a step-daughter, Jana Meeks, of Searcy; two brothers, Jerry Ross and Melvin Ross, both of Gill; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin Ross, Billy Joe Ross and Austin Ross.
Visitation services for Mr. Ross will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Colt Baptist Church with Bro. Carl Baldwin officiating and assisted by Bro. Charles Bradley. Burial will follow at the Marianna Memorial Park Cemetery in Marianna under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Verna Brown
Mrs. Verna Brown, age 40, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Brown is survived by a son, Will Hester III, of Forrest City; two sisters, Ormie Moore and Ivory Pennick, both of Austin, Texas; and a brother, Henry Harris Jr., of Heth.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Rising Sun MB Church in. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at 12 p.m., at Rising Sun M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Paradise Garden. Wolfe Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
