George Swanigan
Mr. George Swanigan, age 75, of Forrest City, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Swanigan, born Aug. 3, 1925, in Wheatley, was the son of George Swanigan Sr. and Josephine Neal Swanigan. Mr. Swanigan is survived by a daughter, Josephine Burns of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Clifton Johnson of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Charles Swanigan of Chicago, Ill. and four grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Swanigan will be held Thursday, June 14, from 10:30 a.m. utnil 5:30 p.m. at the chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Swanigan will be held Thursday, June 14, 2001, at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Burial will be Friday, June 15, at 9 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Wheatley.

Willie Ellis
Mr. Willie Ellis, age 80, of Forrest City, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Ellis was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Forrest City and was the son of James Cornelius Ellis and Etta Nelson Ellis of Forrest City. He was a retired butcher.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Johnetta Bond; a daughter, Cheryl Maureen and all of his siblings. Mr. Ellis is survived by a host of friends and relatives.
Visitation for Mr. Ellis will be Friday, June 15, 2001, from noon to 5 p.m., at Marianna Funeral Home Chapel and also Saturday June 16, 2001, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Cornerstone M.B. Church in Madison. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens in Edmondson under the direction of the Marianna Funeral Home.

Dan Ervin Sr.
Mr. Dan Ervin Sr., age 64, of Forrest City, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.
Mr. Ervin, born Nov. 13, 1936, was the son of Willie Ervin and Lillie Sanders Ervin. He is survived by a daughter, Tammy Ervin of Jonesboro; two sons, Dan Ervin Jr. and Wallace Ervin both of Forrest City and five grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Ervin will be held Friday, June 15, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Ervin will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 4 p.m. at the Church of God of Forrest City with Elder James Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.

Robert Jeffries
Mr. Robert Jeffries, age 59, of Colt, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Jeffries, born Aug. 23, 1941, in Dansby, was the son John Jeffries and Cora Childers Jeffries. He is survived by two daughters, Pearlie Mae Blunt and Teresa Blunt, both of Forrest City; three sisters, Ethel Dale, Josephine Berry and Betty Jeffries, all of Jackson, Miss. and three grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Jeffries will be held Friday, June 15, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Jeffries will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Living God with Elder M.T. Dedner officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.

Amy Varner
Mrs. Amy Varner, age 82, of Pine Tree, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mrs. Varner was born May 28, 1919, in Pine Tree and was the daughter of Thomas Aldridge and Susan Adams Aldridge. She lived in Pine Tree most of her life and was a housewife and a member of Pine Tree Baptist Church.
Mrs. Varner is survived by her husband, Orval Varner of the home; a son, Douglas Varner of Sherwood; two sisters, Floy Walker of Forrest City and Agnes Howe of West Memphis and two grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Varner will be Friday, June 15, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Barnishaw Cemetery in Pine Tree under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. The family request memorials be sent to the Barnishaw Cemetery Association.

Lewis M. Clark
Mr. Lewis M. Clark, age 72, of Colt, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Forrest City. Mr. Clark was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Caldwell to his parents, Hugh and Marie Hughes Clark. He was a Baptist and the retired owner of Clark's Super Service. Mr. Clark lived in the Forrest City area most of his life.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Pat Hayes; a daughter, Rose France of Wynne; two sons, Donald Clark of Wynne and Barry Clark of Colt; a step-daughter, Janaa Poe of Marianna; a step-son, Ashley Roberts of Brinkley and a brother, John P. Clark; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Clark will be Friday, June 15, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 4:30 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with Rev. Preston Clegg officiating. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Luther Cline
Mr. Luther Cline, age 89, of Paragould, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital.
Mr. Cline was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Greene County and was the son of Joseph C. and Mae Cline. He was a retired school teacher, farmer, real estate appraiser, built houses and worked at Clyde Mack Clothing Store. Mr. Cline was a member of Warren's Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Kennemore Cline and by his parents. Mr. Cline is survived by his wife, Arlene Cline of the home; two sons, Billy Cline of Forrest City and Kenny Cline of Paragould; two sisters, Ruby Clark and Norma Carr, both of Paragould; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Cline were held Friday, June 15, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Marion Gramling officiating. Burial followed in Warren's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Jesse Cross
Mr. Jesse Cross, age 89, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Cross was born July 14, 1911, in Haynes to his parents, John H. Cross and Margie Brown Cross. He was a wellsman in the Lee/St. Francis County area for many years and was also a deacon at Spring Grove Baptist Church in Haynes.
Mr. Cross was preceded in death by three sons, Jesse Cross Jr., Excil Cross and Algie Cross and siblings Elmer, Cross, Nina Cross, Ellen Cross and Emmett Cross. He is survived by his wife, Junniest Hughes Cross of the home; three daughters, Broxine Green and Claudette Clay of Forrest City and Shirley Nelms of Memphis; two sons, Ulysses Cross of Haynes and John Cross of Memphis; two brothers, Dr. Edward B. Cross of Charlotte, N.C. and Rev. John H. Cross of Decatur, Ga.; 27 grandchildren and a host of great and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Cross will be held Friday, June 15, 2001, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Marianna Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Spring Grove Baptist Church in Haynes. Burial will follow at the Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Marianna Funeral Home.

Arline Nelson Ivory
Mrs. Arline Nelson Ivory, age 76, of Forrest City, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at the Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock.
Mrs. Ivory was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Memphis to her parents, Clarence and Tempie Brazile Nelson. She was retired from the Freeman Group, Inc.
Mrs. Ivory was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Nelson Jr. and two sons, McKinley Ivory Jr. and Mack Ivory. She is survived by her husband, McKinley Ivory of Forrest City, six sons, David Avant, Clifton Avant, Johnny Ivory, Jimmy Ivory, Melvin Ivory and Lester Ivory, all of Forrest City; five daughters, Glovia Mae Cunningham of Forrest City, Betty Whittaker of Cave City, Clara Moore of Little Rock, Georgette Ivory of Forrest City, and Ollie Reeves of Virginia; two brothers, Lepoleon Nelson and Robert Nelson, both of Forrest City; five sisters, Alberta Taggart, Clara Fulcher, Ozola Ford, Izola Crum, all of California and Rosie Harris of Chicago, Ill.; 63 grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Ivory will be Saturday, June 16, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 17, 2001, at 3 p.m., at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Morturary.

Frances B. Barry
Mrs. Frances B. Barry, age 96, of Forrest City, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mrs. Barry, born June 27, 1904, in Cherry Valley, was the daughter of Frank Bass and Lucy Baber. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.
In 1929, Mrs. Barry married George W. Barry Sr., and he preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by a son, George Bill Barry Jr. in 1999. She is survived by two sons, David Hale Barry of Forrest City and James Edward Barry of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Mamie Chowning of Alexandria, Va. and Martha Smith of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Barry will be held Monday, June 18, 2001, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Barry will be Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mary Ellen Ingle
Mrs. Mary Ellen Ingle, age 71, of Cherry Valley, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Ingle, born Feb. 6, 1930, was the daughter of the late Sterling and Nellie Ingle. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Ingle was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ingle and a great granddaughter, Alyssa Nicole Houlbert. She is survived by a son, Reggie Ingle of Marion; four daughters, Ellen Peeler of Vanndale, Venetta Ingle of Forrest City, Jackie Ingle McCay of Millington, Tenn., and Connie Ingle of Southaven, Miss.; six brothers, Sterling Newsom Jr. of Hernando, Miss., Charles Newsom of Ratio, James Newsom of Lambrook, Elgin Newsom and Cecil Newsom, both of Crumrod and Carter Newsom of Dundee, Miss.; five sisters, Nellie Bell Laxton of Oklahoma, Addie Norwood of Parker Grove, Allegra Crisel of Hillsboro, Mo., Ernestine Newsom of Buffalo, Mo., and Patsy Dillinger of West Helena; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ingle were held today, Monday, June 18, 2001, at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral arrangements were by Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home.
