CLARKSVILLE — John W. Moores Jr., 71, of Clarksville died Thursday Dec. 8, 2005, at his home.
He was born March 6, 1934, at Fayetteville, and was a son of the late John William Sr. and Carrie Elizabeth Mackrell Moores. He was an Army veteran and a retired oil rig mechanic.
Survivors include daughters, Nelda Jan Groff and Lillie Kay Palmeiter, both of Dallas, Texas; sons, John W. Moores III of Clarksville and Brandon Charles Moores Sr. of Dover; stepsons, Billy Perry of Hartman and Jimmy Perry of Altus; stepdaughter, Marie Burchert of Oklahoma; sister, Nelda Jean Hall of Rankin, Texas; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Blanscent Cemetery in Altus.
Allen Stepp
CLARKSVILLE — Allen Michael Stepp, 30, of Clarksville died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of Michael Duane Stepp and Sharas J. Flansburg Stepp of Clarksville and attended the Forrest Davis Center.
Survivors include his parents; and grandparents, Duane and Delores Stepp of Hartman, and Bonnie Flansburg of Clarksville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roller Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with the Rev. Bill Holt officiating. Burial will be at West Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hartman.
Pallbearers will be Arron Stepp, Ben Stepp, Dustin Stepp, Butch Stockdale, Randy Allen, and Jimmy Walker.
Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
William Wiser
HAVANA — William James Wiser, 92, of Havana died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville.
Born July 13, 1913, in Havana, he was the son of the late Porter and Ratha Rogers Wiser. He was a retired USDA Research Pathologist and a member of the Havana United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gussie Wiser; son, Julian Wiser; and brothers, Hulon, Joe and Bob Wiser.
Survivors include a daughter, Meda Snipes of Concord, N.C.; brothers, Roger Wiser of Havana, Henry Wiser of California, and Frank Wiser of Clarksville; sisters, Ida Sue Hall of Belleville, Betty Reed of North Little Rock, and Molly Fish of Texas; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Havana United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Gramling officiating. Burial will be in Piney Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday.
Gary Wayne Moore
CLARKSVILLE — Gary Wayne Moore, 49, of Clarksville died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a welder and veteran of the U.S. Army. His father, Billy Moore; and a brother, Harry Wayne Taylor, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Patton Moore; daughter, Leanda Moore Kendall of Clarksville; son, Britt Moore of Clarksville; parents, Joyce Pritchett Libhard of Pauls Valley, Okla.; father and mother-in-law Franklin and Madia Patton of Clarksville; brothers, Earl Mix of Reno, Nev., Pat and Judy Patton of Clarksville; sisters, Patti Judd of Tracy, Calif., Marilyn Taylor of Lathrop, Calif., Nancy Soto of Lathrop, Sharon Robertson of Ceres, Calif., and Darlene Sims of Manteca, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Britlyn Kendall of Clarksville and Kenzie Moore of Tulsa.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roller Cox Chapel in Clarksville. Burial will be at Lone Pine Cemetery in Clarksville.
Pallbearers: Jerry Don Childers, Larry Gilbert, Pat Patton, Rob Seaman, Mike Burnett, David Owens, Mike Sims and Rob Pelts.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday.
Martha Strother
Martha Leona Wilds Strother, 87, of Russellville died Tuesday, March 14, 2006.
She was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Michie, Tenn., to Luther Carl and Myrtle Boswell Wilds. A retired nurse anesthetist, she was a former resident of the Hutchinson Mountain community near Batesville.
She was a graduate of Charity Hospital School of Anesthesia in New Orleans, La., and was employed for a number of years as a staff anesthetist at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla. She worked at Veterans Hospitals in Montgomery, Ala., and Little Rock. After moving to the Hutchinson community where her husband, Henry Frederick Strother, was born and raised, she worked at the North Arkansas Clinic and later the White River Regional Medical Center until her retirement. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was also active in Farm Bureau Women's Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, T. J. Wilds; and a sister, Mrs. Grace Bickley.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Lou Strother of Little Rock; a son, James Frederick Strother of Russellville; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Lewell Lee of Michie, Tenn.; two half-brothers, Neal Wilds of Ohio and James Wilds of Texas; two half-sisters, Phyllis Carpenter of Oklahoma and Mary Bagley of Indiana; a niece and a nephew; and two great-nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Humphrey Funeral Chapel in Russellville and at 2 p.m. Friday at Palestine Cemetery on Hutchinson Mountain, south of Batesville.
Ruby Walters
CLARKSVILLE -- Ruby B. Walters, 82, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
Born July 20, 1923, at South Mound, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Daisy Blackburn Shepard, and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member and past president of the Johnson County Twirler Square Dance Club. She was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne and Charles Shepard; sisters, Virginia Walters and Erma Shepard; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Walters; a son, George Kilgore Jr. of Clarksville; three daughters, Sharon Brantley of Saint Mary's, Ga., Rae Ann Brooke of Little Rock and Marilyn Chrisman of Hartman; two brothers, Lloyd Shepard of Parsons, Kan., and Billy Joe Shepard of Fort Scott, Kan.; two sisters, Bonnie Dack of Parsons, Kan., and Donna McElroy of Altamont, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery by Hardwicke Funeral Service.
Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mary Stacks
ATKINS -- Mary Virginia Stacks, 60, of Mayflower died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in Little Rock.
Born Nov. 25, 1945, in Atkins, she was the daughter of the late William Jessie and Beatrice Dunn Pope. She was also preceded by three sisters, Lula McCain, Annie May and Jewel Dean Holyfield; and two brothers, Luther Pope and Bill Pope.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Leonard Stacks; four children, Tammy Edge of Morrilton, Becky Burgess of Mayflower, Brett Stacks of Wooster and Joseph Stacks of Mayflower; six grandchildren, Jonathan Burgess, Crystal Burgess, Gloria Burgess, Nicholas Burgess, Jesseca Parker and Brittany Stacks; two great-grandchildren, Anika Haley Maria Burgess and Kayla Nicole Burgess; three sisters, Bessie Patrick of Malvern, Ollie Moore of Hot Springs and Marilyn Willcutt-Reynolds of Atkins; and two brothers, Jimmy Pope of Malvern and Carroll Wayne Pope of Texas.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lemley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roy Fetner and the Rev. Ray Williford officiating. Burial will be in Bells Chapel Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.

Helen Mayhue
Helen Mayhue, 81, of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Little Rock, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rogers.
She was born May 18, 1924, at Russellville to Samuel L. and Ora Myrtle Tillery. She was a homemaker, and loved flowers and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, William Earl Mayhue of Sulphur Springs; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Franklin and Donna Mayhue, and Andrew Mayhue, all of Sulphur Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Hugh B. "Tom" Thomas of Little Rock, and Ann and John Rose of Bryant; two sisters, Alice Crow of Hondo, Texas and Myrtle Dickens of Dover; a sister-in-law, Pauline Tillery of Russellville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Keith Underhill officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery at Pottsville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be nephews: Chris Stewart, Scott and Frank Tillery, David Brown, Paul Rice, and Tim and Matt Hughes.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
