ATKINS - James Stephen Jackson, 27, of Atkins, loving father, husband, and son departed this earth Sunday, March 30, 2008.
He was born Feb. 25, 1981, at Newport News, Va., and was preceded in death by a brother, Michael E. Jackson.
He will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Dawn Jackson; two sons, Stephen Isaiah Jackson and Ethan Alexander Jackson; and daughter, Hannah Dawn Michelle Jackson, all of Atkins; mother and stepfather, Jacquelyn and Jim Myers of Greenbrier; father and stepmother, John P and Bethna Jackson of Newport News, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert P. and Shelly Jackson of Dardanelle; and a brother-in-law, Derek Blevins of Pottsville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Lemley Funeral Chapel with Haskell Eavenson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.
Pallbearers are Derek Blevins, Gary Gore, Chandler York, Jeremy Anderson, Corey Edwards and Joey South.
Visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday.
Phyllis Hawk-Suter
Phyllis Hawk-Suter, 64, of Russellville, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Fudge officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Betty George
DANVILLE - Betty Sue Cowger George, 80, of Danville died Monday, March 31, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 18, 1927, and raised in Danville, Betty Sue graduated from Danville High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Throughout the years, she touched the lives of multiple generations as a music, speech and English teacher at Garland Elementary School in Little Rock, Fourche Valley School, Belleville Elementary and High School and Danville High School.
Betty Sue was a member of Danville United Methodist Church, where she served for many years as a pianist and member of the choir. Her musical talents were often requested for weddings, funerals, graduations and other community events. She has also been an active member of the Yell County Cancer Board, the University of Central Arkansas Alumni Board, the Family Council at Mitchell's Nursing Home, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Danville Music Club and the Yell County Library Board.
In addition to her musical accomplishments, Betty Sue will be remembered for her devotion to her children, her strong will and independence, her cleaver sense of humor and her beautiful smile and blue eyes.
Betty Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Cowger of Danville and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.I. Cowger of Danville and Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Stewart of Plainview.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: daughters, Betty George Woody and Dennis Woody of Danville and Bonny George Dennis and Dave Dennis of Conway, and her sons, Nathan V. George and Jan Dixon George of Dardanelle and Jasper L. George and Arlene Tucker George of Birta. Betty Sue was 'Nanny' to her nine beloved grandchildren, Georgia Meredith and her husband, Kurt, of Conway, Cody Alford of Henderson, Nev., Jon-Nathan George of Russellville, Jason George of Dardanelle, Janae George of Conway, Jay George and his wife, Jana, of Ramstein, Germany, Jasmine McBride and her husband, Justin, of Clarksville, Tenn., Jordan George of Greenwood, and Travis Talley and his wife, Donya, of Manheim, Germany. Betty Sue had three great-grandchildren and was anxiously awaiting the impending birth of two more.
Funeral services for Betty Sue Cowger George will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at Danville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mount George Cemetery immediately following the service.
Pallbearers will be Martha Lynn Burks, Polly Goodwin, Bartley Bell, Wendell Frame, Don Frame, Jerry Payne and Buddy Wright.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 p.m. today in the Cornwell Funeral Home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Betty Sue Cowger George Music Scholarship, University of Central Arkansas Foundation, 201 Donaghey Ave., UCA Box 4986, Conway, AR 72035.
James Rachel
James E. 'Sonny' Rachel, 56, of Russellville died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 8, 1951, at Russellville to James Erwin and Hettie Rachel. He was employed at Cogswell Motors, Inc., a U.S. Army veteran and attended First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Becky Rachel of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Brooke-Allison and Mark Taylor of Russellville; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Kayla Rachel of Russellville; his parents, James and Hettie Rachel of Russellville; two brothers, Paul Rachel of Dover and David Rachel of Russellville; two sisters, Patti Craig of Kingston, Tenn., and Carole Muncy of Russellville; a grandson, Jackson Taylor of Russellville; and several nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Russellville with the Rev. Ira Taylor and Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial will be in Booher Cemetery at Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Ed Schwartz, Ken Langford, Mike Brafford, Tommy Hindsman, Sam Hindsman and Kiah Gardner.
Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Cogswell Motors.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Vestal Chronister
Vestal Elvina Duvall Chronister, 90, of Russellville, was called home to heaven Monday, March 3, 2008.
She was born Oct. 16, 1917, at Gumlog, to the Rev. John Garland and Susie Amanda Davis Duvall. She married Woodrow Wilson Chronister on June 19, 1937, and was married for 51 years. She attended the Pine Hill Community Church and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Linda Pullen; a son-in-law, Bert Phillips; two brothers; seven sisters; a half-brother; and two half-sisters.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Fannie Phillips of Russellville and Geneva George and her husband Thurman Jr. of Mountain View; a son-in-law, Jimmy Pullen of Dover; five grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Phillips, both of Russellville, Brian Pullen of Fayetteville, Renee George of Sheridan and Christopher George of Mountain View; a great-granddaughter, Paige Phillips of Russellville; two half-sisters, Jewel Harris of Little Rock and Bonnie Hill of Russellville; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Ron Chenault officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery near Atkins under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Chronister, Jerry Taylor, Jimmy Pullen, Brian Pullen, Christopher George and Michael Phillips.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Relay for Life, 301 River Oaks Lane, Russellville, AR 72802.
Lavan Whorton
Loving husband, father and adoring grandfather, W. Lavan Whorton, 67, of Hot Springs, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008, at a Hot Springs hospital.
Lavan was born July 19, 1940, in Russellville, to Woodrow W. and Georgia Whorton. He attended Russellville High School and later graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a degree in accounting. He spent his career serving as accountant and financial officer for numerous companies in the poultry industry. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Russellville and First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs. He was an avid runner and golfer early in life, and spent much of his final years boating and fishing with his grandchildren. Lavan fought the good fight and kept the faith, surviving 14 years after a liver transplant in September 1994. His family will be forever grateful to his anonymous donor.
His father, Woodrow W. Whorton, and sister, Mary Hubbard preceded him in death.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Joey Standridge Whorton of Hot Springs; mother, Georgia Whorton of Russellville; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Greg and Amy Whorton of Hot Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Tammy Tyler of Springdale; and five precious grandchildren, Ryan Tyler, Bailey Tyler, Hannah Whorton, Hayes Whorton and Helen Claire Whorton.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs
Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Hollywood Cemetery. Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bud Reeves and Rev. Jim Benfer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lavan's honor may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th St., Little Rock, AR 72204 or First United Methodist Church, 1100 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901.

Keith Moore
DARDANELLE - Keith Millard Moore, 73, of Dardanelle died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at River Valley Medical Center.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and his dog, Ginger, very much. He was born July 14, 1934, at Carden Bottoms to Eurby and Johnny Mae Maxie Moore. He was a member of the Dardanelle City Council, Disabled American Veterans of America, Masons, Shriners, Scottish Rite, Lions Club, Eastern Star and Dardanelle First United Methodist Church. He served on the Dardanelle School Board for 15 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Keith Allen Moore and Dennis Lee Jones; brother, Dick Moore, Peck Moore and J.E. Moore; and sisters, Opal Fisher, Johnny Nell Smith and Ruby Moore.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patricia Henry Moore; children and spouses, Michelle and Charles Gordon of Dardanelle, Melanie and Jimmy Paulman of Russellville, Scott Moore of Russellville, and Kristen and Aaron Hoffman of Dardanelle; a father and grandfather to Jeremy and Tara Lamb, September Anthony and Mercedes Antony, all of Dardanelle, and Rachelle Vor of Minnesota; and four great-grandchildren, Stormy Lamb, Christiana Vor, Joshua Vor and Joseph Vor; brothers, William Eurby Moore of Pottsville and Scotty Moore of Dardanelle; a sister, Ora Faye Tousky of Dardanelle; and several nieces and a nephew.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Cornwell Chapel with Paul Seay, Bro. Paul Northcut and Marty Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home.
