Arlene Crowder
Arlene Artis Crowder, 70, of Payson, died Oct. 7, 1999. She was born in Michigan Sept. 11, 1929.
Ms. Crowder graduated from Toledo School of Nursing in 1950 as a registered nurse. She married and moved to Phoenix and raised five children. She owned her own antique store for 14 years. She earned her private pilot's license in 1975 and flew search and rescue for the Arizona Civil Air Patrol. Later she moved to San Diego, Calif., where she lived aboard a sailboat for a few years. She was self-employed as a lumber broker, selling primarily to the U.S. Navy. From there, she moved to Imperial Beach, Calif. where she was active in the American Legion as chaplin, treasurer and commander of Post 820. She also served on the executive board committee for District 6 in southern Calif.
In 1996 she moved to Payson where she continued her dedication to the American Legion, serving as commander of Post 69. She also continued her work in nursing at Manzanita Manor. She also was a volunteer worker with United Blood Services.
Survivors include two daughters, Marla Wilson of Phoenix, and Karen Dvorak of Cave Creek, Ariz.; two sons, Bill McEuen of Mesa, Ariz., and Dan McEuen of Payson; and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at the American Legion Hall Post 69.
Donations may be made to the American Legion for the Child and Youth Fund.

Stanley Loucks
Stanley Loucks died Oct. 4, 1999, in Payson. He was born March 26, 1946 in Electric City, Wash. Mr. Loucks worked as a painter and moved to Payson in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Denise, of Payson; three daughters, Chelsee and Ninette of Payson, Abby of Hilo, Hawaii; two sons, Ryan of Alaska and Alex of Payson; sister, Christine Dahlstrom of Spokane, Wash.; mother, Miriam Lee of Scottsdale; father, Dale S. Loucks of Yakima, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
Services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 at his home.

Juanita Neff
Juanita Aline Neff, 85, of Payson died Oct. 4, 1999, in Flagstaff. She was born in Chickasha, Okla. July 7, 1914, to parents Charlie and Julia Bounds.
Mrs. Neff was a 47-year resident of Tucson before moving to Payson in 1998.
Survivors include three daughters, Juanita Marston of Payson, Margaret Shemek of Forest Lakes, Ariz., and Georgia Ann Neff of Colorado; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Memorial services are pending.

Melvin Payne
Melvin E. Payne, 69, of Payson, died Oct. 2, 1999, in Payson. He was born June 2, 1930, in Blair, Okla. where he graduated from high school in 1948.
He then studied petroleum engineering at Oklahoma University before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his tour of duty, he worked in the oil industry in Oklahoma and Texas, then in the space and defense industry for many years.
In 1970, he moved with his family to Mesa, Ariz. and retired from the City of Tempe in 1992. Mr. Payne was a Payson resident for the past seven years.
Survivors included his wife of 45 years, Willa Dean; two daughters, Barbara McCreary of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Deana Brillhart of Mesa; two brothers, Loyd Payne of Welston, Okla. and Earl R. Payne of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Ruby Brown of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Aline Mortimor of Mesa; four granddaughters, Crystal and Ericka Brillhart and Tara and Katilyn McCreary; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Oct. 6 at the Star Valley Baptist Church.

Peter Schultz
Peter Schultz, III, 79, of Payson and Mesa, died March 3, 2000. He was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Cranford N.J. Mr. Schultz was a World War II veteran and served as a B-29 flight engineer. He also was a member of the V.F.W, Elks Lodge and United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of Payson and Mesa; son, Peter Schultz IV, of Phoenix; daughter, Holly Carrico of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; two sisters; two brothers; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Silveridge Resort, 8265 E. Southern in Mesa.

William Darnall

William Dean Darnall, 77, of Payson, died June 15, 2000, in Payson. He was born July 25, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mr. Darnall was a World War II Navy veteran and a retired pressman. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 69 of Payson, the Payson Moose Lodge and the Hilltoppers MC Club of Signal Hill, Calif. He married Margaret Marshall Nov. 11, 1944, in San Diego, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Payson; one daughter, Susan Marie Clawson of Orange, Calif.; two sons, William Dale Darnall of Bellflower, Calif. and Scott Milo Darnall of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Gary R. Marshall of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Louise Bullock Jones, 84, of Payson, died June 14, 2000, in Payson. She was born March 31, 1916, in Alex, Okla.
Mrs. Jones married David Jones Jan. 10, 1934, in Grady County, Okla.
Survivors include her husband, David, of Payson; two daughters, Peggy Downing of Oceanside, Calif., and Patricia Gilliam of Marana, Ariz.; one son, Charles R. Jones of Payson; five sisters, Gertrude Doran of Phoenix; Jewell Guinn of Chickasha, Okla., Geraldine Miller of Broken Arrow, Okla., Murlene McGill of Chickasha, Okla., and June Liejfield of Bend, Ore; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Luella E. McCormick, 82, of Payson, died June 13, 2000. She was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Chicago, Ill. and had lived in Arizona for the past 24 years.
Survivors include her husband, Patrick, of Payson; and three sons, Edward, Russell and Thomas Ruzanski, all of Chicago, Ill.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Interment was held June 15 at South Lawn Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz.

Dennis Charles Nemeth, 58, of Payson, died June 13, 2000, in Payson. He was born Sept. 24, 1941, in New Jersey.
Mr. Nemeth was a Vietnam veteran, a member of the American Legion, Post No. 0069 of Payson, and a carpenter.
Survivors include his son, Mark Nemeth of Payson; father, Dennis Nemeth of New Brunswick, N.J.; one brother, Robert Nemeth of New Brunswick, N.J.; and one sister, Marianne Nemeth, of New Brunswick, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Nemeth.

Kenneth Sylvester, 72, of Payson, died June 17, 2000, in Payson. He was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Fairfield, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty; three sons, Jay and his wife, Rhoda, of Buckeye, Ariz., Ken and his wife, Tammy, of Glendale, Ariz. and Mark and his wife, Bobette, of Payson, Ariz.; three daughters, Sue and her husband, Bud Hart, of Tonopah, Ariz., Pam and Jane of Iowa; two sisters, Dorothy Downey of Sun City, Ariz, and Mary Ilene Dean of Iowa; and 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael James Sylvester in 1979.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ponderosa Ward. President Fred Hollobaugh will preside. Pallbearers will be: Jay, Ken, Mark, Jason and Nick Sylvester, and Bud, Phillip, Chris and Mike Hart. Honorary pallbearer will be Chandler Sylvester.
Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park.

Helen Wanda Temby, 81, of Payson, died June 16, 2000. She was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Woodlake, Calif. and had lived in Arizona for the past 18 years.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene, of Payson; one son, Dennis Temby of Phoenix; three daughters, Rosalyn Wheelock and Judy Middleswart of California, and Susan Dudley of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Florence Hunter, Margaret Howell and Edna Rahn all of California.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at the Ponderosa Baptist Church.

Russell W. Biting, 90, of Payson, died Aug. 13, 2000, at Payson Care Center.
Mr. Biting was a Navy veteran attached to the Seabees. He also worked as a baker for Van de Camps in Los Angeles, Calif.
He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Bill Engstler of Payson; several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Santa Paula, Calif.

La Donna Fausett, 76, of Tonto Basin, died Aug. 13, 2000. She was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Hurricane, Utah.
Mrs. Fausett was a bank manager.
She is survived by her husband, Max F. Fausett, of Tonto Basin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Alison Blake of Mesa and Kenneth and Lori Blake of Price, Utah; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Phillip and Carole Fausett of Tonto Basin and Jeff and Diane Fausett of Tucson; two step-daughters, Jerry Siaperas of Pocatello, Idaho and La Rae Droz and husband, Robert, of Salt Lake City, Utah; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Janice Elaine Young Smith, 57, of Phoenix, died at St. Joseph's Hospital Aug. 11, 2000. She was born in Frankfort, Ind. April 27, 1943.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Phoenix Calvary Temple.
She is survived by her father, Kenneth A. Young of Frankfort, Ind.; husband, Howard F. Smith of Phoenix; daughter Myndi J. Brogdon of Strawberry; son Andrew J. Smith of Phoenix; granddaughters Kelsey and Laynie Brogdon of Strawberry; and grandson Van H. Smith of Phoenix.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 at Phoenix Calvary Temple, 6630 N. Central in Phoenix. Interment at the Arizona National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. There will be no graveside services.

Mrs. Stewart was a secretary for the Veterans Administration.
She is survived by her husband, Edward K. Stewart, of Payson; one daughter, Elizabeth Sarah Keegan of Frenchtown, N.J.; one son, Frederick Becker of New York City; one sister, Angus Osborn of Wisconsin; one brother, Elmer Bodnar of New Jersey; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Helen Dorothy Fortney, 96, of Cottonwood, Ariz. died Sept. 24, 2000. She was born April 7, 1904, in Rose Creek, Minn. to Charles and Carrie (Dahle) Ballweber.
She moved to Hemet, Calif. in 1943. Mrs. Fortney was a schoolteacher and a herbalist for Watcher's Organic Sea Products for 45 years. She moved to Payson in 1989.
Survivors include one son, Donald Fortney and his wife, Janice, of Payson; three granddaughters, Marla and her husband, Gene Kelly, of Tempe, Ariz., Sandy and her husband, Larry Shelton, of Payson, and Sharmie and her husband, Warren Johnson, of Peoria, Ariz.; two great-granddaughters, Lisa Kemper of Goodyear, Ariz. and Arrica Kelly of Tempe, Ariz.; two great-grandsons, Sean Kelly and Gene Kelly of Tempe; three great-great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson.

John Carlton Myers, 47, of Payson, died Sept. 28, 2000, in Payson, Ariz. He was born on July 6, 1953 in Ellsworth, Kan, and had lived in Arizona for the past 44 years. John worked as a mason in construction in the Valley for many years.
John was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his companion, Charlotte Green, of Payson, Ariz.; parents, Robert L. and Elizabeth Zorn Myers, of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Kristie Clarke, of Mesa, Ariz.; and grandmother, Ardella Zorn, of Ellsworth, Kan.

Bud Blaylock, 51, of Payson, died Sept. 26, 2000. He was born on Nov. 29, 1948 in Red Lodge, Mt., and had lived in Payson for the past 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of Payson; four sons, Jack Blaylock, and wife Katie, of Payson; Tyler Blaylock, of Payson, Chance Blaylock, of Payson and Randy Blaylock, of Washington; two daughters, Eboni Blaylock, of Payson and Lori Blaylock, of Montana. Two grandchildren, Jalynn Blaylock, and Shaylee Hail, of Payson; two sisters, Knoxann Armijo, of California and Donna Kelly, of Montana; two brothers, Scott Blaylock, of Montana, and Rusty Workman, of Gilbert, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Music, step-father, Knox Blaylock, and father, Bud Linderman.

Orda Folmar

Orda Folmar, 87, of Tonto Basin, Ariz. died Sept. 15, 2000 in Brady, Texas. She was born on Dec. 12, 1912.
Mrs. Folmar married J.B. (Red) Folmar in Aspen, Colo. in 1938. They were married for 47 years. Orda was a past Boy Scout leader and 4-H leader in Globe. She was one of the original founding members of the Gila County Home Extension Service and a past state president of the Extension Service. She resided in Tonto Basin for 40 years and retired after 12 years as Postmaster of Tonto Basin Post Office. She moved to Brady, Texas in 1991 to be close to her children, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Ruth, Leona, and Carol Ann; son, Kenny Bill Folmar; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Tonto Basin Cemetery.
