Elmer Caddes

Elmer Ellsworth Caddes, 88, of Santa Rosa, Calif., died Sept. 26, 2000, in Santa Rosa.
Mr. Caddes was born in Olathe, Colo. and grew up near Gregory, S.D. He was a record-setting middle-distance runner at the University of South Dakota in the early 1930s.
Mr. Caddes married and left USD to work as a surveyor and engineer on the Rosebud, S.D. Reservation. In 1941, he was called to active duty with the South Dakota National Guard. Mr. Caddes spent much of World War II in the South Pacific, including service as an infantry company commander in the invasions of Peleliu and Okinawa. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantryman's Badge, among other awards.
After World War II, he returned to USD, living in "Vet's Villa" and receiving his bachelor's degree in 1946. He served as city engineer of Vermillion, S.D. until being called to active duty in 1950 in the Korean War. This time, he remained in the Army, serving in Germany and a number of U.S. posts before retiring. Mr Caddes and his wife, Alice, spent their retirement traveling, fishing and spending time with their grandchildren. They eventually settled in Payson, where they were leaders in developing a senior center that became a vital part of the community. In 1999, they moved to California to be closer to their children.
Survivors include one son, Donald E. Caddes of Menlo Park, Calif.; one daughter, Katherine A. Caddes of Forestville, Calif.; two sisters, Helen McCreadie of Fennville, Mich. and Sara Hamdorf of Marion, Iowa; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Caddes, in 1987.
Elizabeth Stewart

Elizabeth Becker "Betty" Stewart, 89, of Payson, died Aug. 11, 2000, in Payson. She was born in Bernardsville, N.J. June 21,1911.
Mrs. Stewart was a secretary for the Veterans Administration.
She is survived by her husband, Edward K. Stewart, of Payson; one daughter, Elizabeth Sarah Keegan of Frenchtown, N.J.; one son, Frederick Becker of New York City; one sister, Angus Osborn of Wisconsin; one brother, Elmer Bodnar of New Jersey; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
No services are planned.

La Donna Fausett

La Donna Fausett, 76, of Tonto Basin, died Aug. 13, 2000. She was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Hurricane, Utah.
Mrs. Fausett was a bank manager.
She is survived by her husband, Max F. Fausett, of Tonto Basin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Alison Blake of Mesa and Kenneth and Lori Blake of Price , Utah; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Phillip and Carole Fausett of Tonto Basin and Jeff and Diane Fausett of Tucson; two step-daughters, Jerry Siaperas of Pocatello, Idaho and La Rae Droz and husband, Robert, of Salt Lake City, Utah; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in Price , Utah.

Russell Biting

Russell W. Biting, 90, of Payson, died Aug. 13, 2000, at Payson Care Center.
Mr. Biting was a Navy veteran attached to the Seabees. He also worked as a baker for Van de Camps in Los Angeles, Calif.
He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Bill Engstler of Payson; several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Santa Paula, Calif.
