Mary (Bradley) Newman, 81, died Nov. 21, 2004, surrounded by her family, in the rambling ranch home she established 47 years ago at the base of Mummy Mountain. She was born July 11, 1923 in Manhattan.
Mrs. Newman earned her degree in art history from the College of Notre Dame of Baltimore, Md. She married returning naval aviator J. Kevin Newman Aug. 28, 1948 beside Spring Lake, N.J. From their home in Darien, Conn., they moved to Arizona in May, 1957.
Shepherding her children among sometimes five schools simultaneously, she was an active and engaged parent at Kiva Elementary School, Scottsdale, for three decades, along with Parent-Teacher Associations of Gerard High School, Saguaro High School, Xavier High School, and Brophy Prep.
Mrs. Newman was an astounding intellect who would enthrall on any subject not trivial. She was the center of the circle of her book review club and her tennis gang.
She embraced all things Arizona, especially the sprawling Sonoran Desert.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin, and her loving children Mary Lemionet, Kevin and Peggy, Bradley, Dennis, Jimmy, Janie, Annie and Craig, John and Tammy. She was a loving and attentive grandmother of six, and will remain "Aunt Mary" to 13 nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lucille, and her younger sister, Joan, and brother, Tom.
A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 3801 N. Miller Road, Scottsdale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004

David W. Ogilvie, Sr. (1923-2004)

David William "Bill" Ogilvie Sr., 80, died Aug. 4, 2004, at his home on the U-Ranch in Cliff, N.M. An Arizona native, he was born Aug. 7, 1923 in Star Valley.
He was the son of Andrew Milne and Margaret Agnes (Lazear) Ogilvie. He was married to Carol C. Peterson.
Mr. Ogilvie was raised under the Mogollon Rim, on the Ogilvie Ranch near Payson. After graduating from Payson High School as class valedictorian, he spent several years in the Tonto Basin area working as a young man on ranches. In 1943, at the age of 19, he joined the Army Air Force and served in England and France, flying 65 completed missions over Germany. Trained as a tail gunner, he flew on A-20 light bombers and finished his military service as a gunnery instructor. Mr. Ogilvie returned to Payson to his much loved ranch work. He retired from the Bar T Bar Ranch in the early 1980s after 44 years. After a few years, he moved to New Mexico with his wife, Carol, to join his son and family in their ranching operation in and around Cliff.
An avid outdoorsman, he excelled at trout fishing and fondly spoke of having ridden horses for over 70 years. His family was his pride and joy.
Mr. Ogilvie was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol; daughter, Diane Ogilvie and her husband, Michael Moore, of Anchorage, Alaska; son, David William Ogilvie Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Silver City; two sisters, Anna Mae Ogilvie Deming of Payson and Beryl Ogilvie Greb of Gilbert.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for Mr. Ogilvie will be Andrew (Drew) Ogilvie; David William Ogilvie Jr.; Jason Dobrinski; Chad Freeman; James Earl Mullen; Jim Weeks and Buck Wickham. Honorary bearers will be Raphael Acosta; Miquel Apodaca; Tom Barkley; Jim Deming; David Fiacco; Kendrick Holder; Billy Laney; Joe Lockwood; David Norris; Rusty Meikle; Michael F. Moore; Ron Mullen; Ken Seidel; Frank Talbert and George Yard, MD.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at Bright Funeral Home in Silver City. Interment will be in the Payson Pioneer Cemetery Monday, Aug. 9. Graveside services will be at noon, preceded by a visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 302 W. Aero Drive. A potluck lunch will immediately follow the funeral at the Payson Womans Club, 504 W. Main St.
Bright Funeral Home of Silver City, N.M. handled the arrangements.
Opal J. Collins (1928-2004)

Opal J. Collins, 75, of Globe, died July 31, 2004 in Mesa. She was born Sept. 8, 1928 in Payson.
She was the daughter of Edward and Jane Conway of Tonto Basin.
Mrs. Collins was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, William N. Collins; three sons, Mark, Douglas and Kevin; daughter, Mary Merz; eight grandchildren; one brother, E.C. Conway; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Tonto Basin School.
Donations can be made to the Tonto Basin Cemetery.
Catherine W. Williams

Catherine Wilma Williams, 88, of Payson, died July 30, 2004. She was born Jan. 13, 1916 in Cleveland, N.C.
Mrs. Williams was a secretary for many years, and then became a housewife.
She loved her many dogs and considered them her children.
She is survived by her loving dog, Oreo, many friends, and stepson, Tim Reilly of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Williams, March 15, 1989.
There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at Payson Pioneer Cemetery on S. Vista Road in Payson.
