Nicholas Charles "Nick" Oliver, 78, died July 29, 2004, at his home in Payson. He was born Jan. 14, 1926 in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Oliver was a Navy veteran of World War II, stationed at Pearl Harbor Submarine Base. He was a lifetime Elk (BPOE) of 37 years.
After retirement from trucking in 1983, he moved to Payson.
Recently, he had been a greeter at Wal-Mart.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Carol Quigley of Payson, Salvi Oliver of Riverside, Calif., David Wicks of Strawberry, Mike Wicks of Payson, Sherie Wicks of Cornville, Ariz. and Susie Wicks of Payson; sister, Rosalie Carlson of Roselle, Ill.; and 12 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Elks Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway in Payson.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
John R. Crane
John R. Crane, 73, of Payson, died Feb. 22, 2000. He was born to parents Orvine and Mabel Crane on Oct. 5, 1926 in Lancaster, Calif., and graduated from Antelope High School in Lancaster, Calif. He had lived in Payson since 1974 and owned Payson Tire for 12 years until 1986. He was also employed by the U.S. Forest Service. John served in the Army in World War II and had a long association with the American Legion in Payson and West Covina, Calif.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lola; three sons, Bob and Joe of Phoenix, and Greg, of McGregor, Iowa; one daughter, Rachel, of Chandler; two sisters, Molley and Eunice, of California; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Saturday Feb. 26 at Mountain Meadows.
Donations may be made to your favorite charity.
Arrangements were handled by Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
Patsy M. Darr
Patsy M. Darr, 57, of Payson, died Feb. 28, 2000. She was born April 26, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had been a resident of Payson for 28 years.
She loved painting ceramics, decorating and camping.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Allen, of Payson; one son, John Patrick Valdez, also of Payson; two stepdaughters, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Private services will be held.
Contributions may be made in her name to RTA Hospice, 104 E. Frontier St., Payson AZ 85541.
Catherine M. Pancheri
Catherine M. Pancheri, 77, of Payson, died Feb. 22, 2000. She was born Oct. 24, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wis.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Pancheri of Payson; daughters, Judy Lecher of Payson and Susan Hofler of Nora Springs, Iowa; sisters, Lucille Kreuzer and Marina Thibodeau of Wausaw, Wis., and Marie Altenhofen of Louisville, Mont.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass was held Monday, Feb. 28 at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Payson.
Arrangements were made by Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
Katherine M. Smith
Katherine M. Smith, 102, died Feb. 21, 2000.
She was born in London, England to Emily and Ernest Talbot on Jan. 24, 1898. At age 17, she moved to Vancouver, BC. At age 30, she moved to Glendale, Calif. and became interested in aviation. She worked for United Airport (now Burbank International Airport), and earned her pilot's license while employed by movie pilot Paul Mantz. Smith retired from Flying Tiger Airlines in her mid-seventies. She moved to Payson in 1989.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Noel Talbot and Maxine Price Smith of Payson; nephews Richard and Julian Crawley of Canada.
Smith was a published author; member of the 99s; an honorary member of the Payson Pilots' Association; Rim Country Museum; and Women's Athletic Club of Glendale, Calif. She enjoyed hiking, rock climbing, sailing, traveling and gardening.
A memory of Katherine will be included in the 11 a.m. worship service March 12 at Payson United Methodist Church, 414 N. Easy St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Katherine M. Smith Memorial Fund (Payson United Methodist Church).
