William E. Gerken, 70, El Mirage, died Jan. 21, 2003. He was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. and moved to Arizona from Florida in 1999. Mr. Gerken was a clerk in the hardware industry and also served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by sons Michael, John, Mark and Matthew; stepsons Scott and Keith; and 14 grandchildren. Virginia Gloria Aguirre, 50, of Sun City, a customer service representative, died Jan. 27, 2003. Born in Norwalk, Conn., she is survived by her husband, Rich; son, Bryan Smith; stepson, Aaron Aguirre; mother, Agnes Pearson; one sister, one brother and two grandchildren. Elsa T. Anastasio, 88, of Sun City, a medical secretary, died Jan. 25, 2003. Born in Cavezzo, Italy, she moved to Arizona from Connecticut in 1977. Mrs. Anastasio is survived by her son, Roger; daughter, Jo-Anne Jones of Sun City West; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Menke Funeral Home.
Scott E. Beiter, 89, of Sun City West, died Jan. 29, 2003. Born in Iowa, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Beiter is survived by his wife, Harriet Jean; daughter, Barbara Wildberger, and one granddaughter. Sunland Mortuary.
Romulus (Rommie) Cossalter, 90, of Sun City, an insurance agent, died Jan. 24, 2003. Born in Eveleth, Minn., he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Cossalter is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; sons Duane, of Phoenix, and Ellery; daughters Susan Georgiev and Melanie Eubank; three brothers, two sisters, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Roby E. Fretwell, 89, of Sun City, a school administrator, died Jan. 23, 2003. Born in Williamstown, Mo., he is survived by his wife, Rosemary; sons, Cicil, Robert and Richard; stepsons, Ron Reece and Dan Reece; one brother, 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Grace W. Witt, 92, of Sun City, died Jan. 28, 2003. She moved to Arizona from Illinois. Sunland Mortuary.
Jim Denton of Sun Lakes passed away Jan 22, 2003, at Hospice of the Valley in Glendale.
Jim died of complications after surgery.
A memorial service will be held Monday, February 10 at 11 a.m. in the Navajo room of Rec Hall No. 1.
Louie Baus Hopkins, 72, passed away Jan. 25, 2003.
Born in Salisbury, Md., he lived most recently in Sun Lakes. He was a son of the late Louise Baus Hopkins and Lloyd Carroll Hopkins, Sr.
Mr. Hopkins, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, was a Naval Academy graduate and a master of science graduate of the University of Washington.
He proudly served his country in the US Air Force, retiring as a major, and had also retired from the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Preceded in death by his son, Douglas, he is survived by his wife Carmela; daughter Sara Bennewitz; son-in-law Dallas Bennewitz; and two beloved grandchildren Chase and Dana Bennewitz who miss their "Papa Lou."
No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charity donations to the Disabled American Veterans.
Ruth Hoffman Aitchison, 76, of Sun Lakes, died at her home Jan. 19, 2003,
Mrs. Hoffman was born in Duluth, Minn., and went to school at Bates College and Pepperdine University. She was a member of several needlepoint groups, P.E.O., and the Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club.
Her husband, Harry; her sons Harry and Thomas; a daughter, Nancy; a brother, Fred Hoffman; and a sister, Doris Hoffman Wilson, survive her.
A memorial service was held Feb. 4 at the Sun Lakes Chapel.
Catalina Cuevas, 95, of east Mesa, died Jan. 22, 2003, in Mesa.
Mrs. Cuevas, a housewife, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico.
She is survived by her daughters Gloria Marquez, Teresa Cano, and Norma DeAnda and four grandchildren.

Salvatore Edward Conigliaro, 76, of east Mesa, died Jan. 24, 2003 in Mesa.
Mr. Conigliaro, a financial supervisor and retired WWII Army Veteran, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife Gloria; daughter Catherine Dever; sons Brian Murphy and Tony and Steve Faircloth; sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Pat McGrath and 12 grandchildren.

Joy Elizabeth Pearson, 87, of east Mesa, died Jan. 25, 2003, in Mesa.
Ms. Pearson, a retired financial director of the Los Angeles County Head Start Program, was born in Dodge Center, Minn.
She is survived by daughters Alice Hardecopf, Phyllis Silvas, and Linda Salem; sons Alan and L. Bruce; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
