Marion E. Thompson, 87, of Sun City, died Oct. 6, 2003. A wife and homemaker, she was born in Chicago, Ill., and remated at Neptune Society in Sun City. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Wilma Arana-Alarcon; grandchildren, Cynthia Ann Bowlus, Eric Dean Bowlus and Jesus Arana-Alarcon.
Sara P. Wharton, 87, of Sun City died Nov. 7, 2003. Born in Batavia, New York. Survived by daughters, Jean and Margaret; sons, Joseph and William; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 9720 W. Peoria Ave., Ste. 128, Peoria, 85345-6135.
Robert E. Barker, Surprise, died Sept. 28, 2003. Mr. Barker was born in Phoenix and worked in marketing and sales. He was a deacon at First Christian Church of Phoenix for many years and a member of Christ's Church of the Valley. He also served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Amanda Pelton of Glendale; son, Robert Bradley Barker of Phoenix; brother, Jerry Barker of Paradise Valley; and three grandchildren. Iola Hunter Maland, 92, of Scottsdale, died July 15, 2003. She passed away in Fountain Hills. She lived a busy life in Sun City, since moving from Illinois in 1980. She was a beloved "snow bird" from 1974-1980. In 2000, she moved to Scottsdale. Iola was a talented musician and teacher. She was an active volunteer for the Sun City Symphony, museum, Prides, Boswell Hospital and many other organizations. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority and of the Sun City Lutheran Church. She also was a former member and choir director of the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, Ill. She graduated from Illinois Weselyn University with a master's degree in music. Iola is preceeded in death by her husband, Talfourd, and her granddaughter, Jennifer. She is survived by her loving and devoted son, David; grandchildren, Susan Ludewig, Kristin Maland. She also has two great-grandchildren, Cole and Kyle Ludewig. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Krehl of Sun City West; brother, Keith Hunter of Marseilles, Ill. A memorial service and reception will celebrate her life 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 N. Gilbert H. Blair of Sun City West died Sept. 20, 2003. He was born in Lake Park, Iowa, and raised in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He served in the armed forces aboard the U.S.S. President Coolidge. After the war, he resided in Topeka, Kan., and was in the jewelry business. There he met Pauline Lewis, where they married. Mr. Blair is survived by his sister, Bonnie Blair Martin of Sun City. June J. Brown, 81, of Surprise, passed away Sept. 25, 2003. Services were held in Morgantown, W. Va. Local arrangements by Sunland Mortuary.
