GAXIOLA, Jasmin Rene, May 9, 1985 to October 14, 1999. Jasmin was a bright-eyed, vivacious fourteen year old Freshman at Sahuaro High School. She was loved by all who knew her. She loved children, dolphins, candles and dancing and will be remembered for her flawless beauty and selfless kindness. A child who promoted peace leaves a community that is deeply saddened by her loss due to a senseless act of violence. She is survived by her mother, Carol Gaxiola of Tucson, AZ; father, Hector Gaxiola of Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico; and many, many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Anna Gaxiola. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 18, 1999 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Rosary to be recited 7:00 p.m. In celebration of her life, a memorial service and reception will be held Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, in the Holland Sanctuary at 4831 E. 22nd St., 7:00. Burial and Funeral Services will be held in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. The family has requested that donations be made to Children to Children, 3922 N. Mountain Ave., 85719.

ISLAS, Jose C., 78, of Tucson, passed away on October 15, 1999. He is survived by his spouse, Concepcion; one daughter, Elizabeth; seven sons, Samuel, Benjamin, Jose Luis, Daniel, Eleazar, Gabriel, Raymundo; two brothers; seven sisters; and many other loving family members and friends. A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 19 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY. Interment to follow at South Lawn cemetery.

McKINLEY, Albert E., 83, of Tucson, AZ, died peacefully at home on October 15, 1999. He was a retired railroad engineer and saxophone player. He is survived by wife, Henriette O. McKinley of Tucson; children, Judith A. Stroud of Santa Clarita, CA; Carolyn E. Grossheim, Martin E. McKinley and Richard C. McKinley, all of Tucson; stepchildren, Sharon Chessen of Tucson; Savilla Frannea (Manfred) of Sedona; and Barbara Moseley of Tucson; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Spice of CA; brother, Elton McKinley of CA; and cousins, Gladys Chalmers and Ada Swinbank, both of Tucson. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at East Lawn cemetery. RICHARDSON, Eugene Arthur, 84, died October 16, 1999. Husband of Marie Richardson; father of Marguerite (Wilfred) Bean of Yuma, AZ; Janet (Clifford) Carlson of Yucca Valley, CA; and Alice (Floyd) Kennedy of Tucson, AZ. Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Brother of Alvin and John Richardson. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #2532. Memorial Service 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at Elks Lodge #2532, 615 S. Pantano Rd. Interment of cremains in TMP East Lawn cemetery. ROGERS, Mildred Every, died at home Wednesday, October 14, 1999, in Tucson. She was born in 1907 in Brooklyn, MI, to Leota and Melvin Every, and was recently preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Palmer Rogers. They had no children, but two nieces, Lou Ellen Crawford of Santa Fe and Kay Bomgardner of Atlanta, along with several grandnieces and grandnephews, survive her. Her sister, Louise Every Crothers of Colorado and brother, H. Reed Every of Atlanta also predeceased her.
Mildred graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. degree in Social Work in 1931. She was active in her profession, in which her specialty was child welfare, in Grand Rapids, MI, Los Angeles, CA, where her position was the Children's Protective Association, in Santa Barbara, CA and in Tucson where she served as head of the Child Welfare Department's Board of Directors and as a child welfare worker. Her professional expertise was evident in her private life as her interaction with children and young people was marked by deep mutual admiration. She was associated with and active in both the Tucson American Association of University Women and the Home Service Department of the American Red Cross. She had a deep interest in the Native American population in and around Tucson, a population she served in many capacities. She was a member of and active in St. Mark's Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive her friends and associates at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. 3rd Street at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 1999 with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at South Lawn cemetery. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Tucson Salvation Army, the Rogers' favorite charity. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

ARNOLD, Thomas A., born May 27, 1920, died October 16, 1999. Forty years of Government Service, retired from USAF and Civil Service. Survivors include his devoted wife, Hyla of Tucson; sister, Connie Stivers of Louisville, KY and many nieces, nephews, friends; and stepsons, Marc and Eric Broadman of Mesa. A loving, kind, southern gentleman will be greatly missed. Contributions of your choice.

DE LA CORTE, Cruz, 92, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away October 16, 1999. Survived by daughters, Alice Hernandez, Dolores Gallego, Natalie Manzanares and Celia Gutierrez; son, Manuel De La Corte. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and 84 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 1999 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Thursday, October 21, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. FLORES, Oscar E., born March 20, 1920, died October 15, 1999. Born in Piedras Negras and raised in Guaymas and Agua Prieta. In 1946 he moved to Los Angeles, CA and in 1947 married his beloved wife of 52 years. He was a gentle and giving man who's greatest joy was to surround himself with his family and friends he so greatly loved. He will live forever in our hearts.
preceded in death by his father, Ignacio Flores Verdugo; mother, Florencia Flores de Mendoza; grandson, Jimmy Rodriguez. Survived by wife, Oralia Flores; daughters, Gloria (Oscar) Lopez, Elva Flores; sons, Oscar Flores, Jr.; grandsons, Stephen and Justin Rodriguez; granddaughters, Madison and Bianca Garcia. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

HAWES, Howard Altus, 62, of Tucson, died Thursday, October 14, 1999. He is survived by his beloved mother, Bonnie Hawes and many other family members and friends. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 on Thursday, October 21, 1999 at East Lawn Palms cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Ravin Gaston of Catalina United Methodist Church officiating. RUBY MAY HOMER, 59, this loving daughter, sister, wife and lover, mother and friend, found peace after a brave battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She leaves her husband of 42 years, James L. Homer; sons, James W. Homer and Michael T. (Jeannie) Homer; brothers, Jim E. (Arlene) Sullivan and Larry A. (Carolyn) Sullivan; her many other relatives and friends, to await reunion with her. preceded in death by brother, Jack L. Sullivan; parents, Jack E. and Annabelle M. Sullivan. Those who knew her will remember her with love and cherish the time they had with this exceptional, giving and caring woman. Her wish, in lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society. LYMAN J. 'ROCKY' MEAD died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 17th, 1999. Rocky was born on October 27, 1925 in Rock Island, Illinois. Prior to entering the military service in 1942, he was a well known amateur boxer winning the Golden Glove Championship four times in Illinois.
He served in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force from 1942 through 1967, serving in Okinawa during WWII. Among his many assignments he lived in North Africa, Spain, and Florida with his final assignment bringing him and his family to Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, where Rocky was a founding member of the D.M. Federal Credit Union. Rocky served on the Board of Directors from its inception until September, 1999.
After his retirement from military service, he joined All America Liquor Distributors and was a Sales Representative for Southern and Eastern Arizona from 1967 to his retirement in 1977. Upon his retirement from his second career, he devoted his time to his first love, 'Fishing' with his best friend of over 30 years, Jim Dickson.
While stationed in Spain, Rocky became a Mason and belonged to the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, S.J. USA, Tampa, Florida. He was also a Shriner and belonged to the Sabbar Temple in Tucson, Arizona. He was a member of the Motor Patrol.
Rocky did many charitable acts throughout his lifetime. Many lives have been enriched by knowing Rocky and we, his immediate family will always carry with us the spirit of Rocky Mead.
He is survived by two sons, Glenn Allen and Samuel Patrick (Rhonda) Mead both residing in Tucson. Rocky was also a special 'father-figure' to Glenda Ellen Scalzo, also from Tucson. He has four grandchildren, Lonnie, Brent, and Rodney Mead of Florida and Christa Mead of Tucson. He also has two great-grandchildren, Kalley Mead and Brent Mead, Jr. of Florida.
Funeral service 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Interment will be held at the National Memorial cemetery, Thursday, October 21st at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. to service time, Wednesday, October 20th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
We will be celebrating Rocky's life at Pappy's Restaurant, 375 S. Stone, Tucson from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. following the funeral services. Kindly RSVP the restaurant at 622-2500.

MOTEN, Edward Lewis, age 53, of Tucson, Arizona, died October 16, 1999. He was a Catalina High School Coach and Science Teacher. He is survived by his wife, Jean Taylor Moten; daughter, Michelle Moten Browner; son, Mark Edward Moten; granddaughter, Kristen Browner. Services to be announced.

POLM, Elizabeth, 81, died October 17, 1999. Born Elizabeth Edith Marston in British Columbia in 1918, Liz spent her childhood living in several colorful mining camps in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia where her father worked as an electrical engineer. After receiving an Associate's Degree in business, Liz worked in California banks until 1957, when she moved to Tucson, Arizona with her two children. Liz worked for Arizona Bank until her retirement in 1981. She then found time to perform duties as a volunteer at Tucson Medical Center, until illness made it impossible. Liz is survived by her son, Stephen; her daughter, Robin; and her grandchildren, Sean and Kathryn. If anyone desires, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beacon Foundation in her name. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 322-6131.
