FRIEDMAN, MD, Lawrence Ellis, 60, beloved husband, father and physician, passed away November 7, 1999. Graduated Vanderbilt University Magna Cum Laude. He was a Merit Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kapa; graduated Washington University Medical School (St. Louis, MO.). His intern and residency were at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He served two years at Scott Air Force Base. Lawrence specialized in the practice of internal medicine at the Thomas-Davis Medical Center for 25 years where he served on the Board of Directors and as the Assistant Medical Director. He served as Chief of Medicine for Tucson Medical Center during the early eighties. He served on Medical Committees at St. Joseph's Hospital during the early nineties. He was a volunteer facilitator for AMISA support groups. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Linda; son, Samuel Leonard (Jenny) Friedman of Portland, OR; daughter, Davina (Alan) Doby of Portland, OR; son, Jonathan David Friedman; grandchildren, Lacey Ann and Samuel Joseph Doby of Portland, OR; mother, Anne Liebman; step-father, Jim Liebman; step-brother, Jerry (Ellen) Liebman of South Salem, New York; sisters-in-law, Betty (Nachman) Berkowitz, Shirley (Jerry) Leader of Birmingham, AL and Lois (Nat) Harris of Pensacola, FL. NANCY H. HODGSON, 97, died November 6, 1999. Born October 8, 1902 in Kalamazoo, MI to Peter and Nellie (Zylstra) Pelaar. Loving mother of four children, Helen E. Mellberg, Eugene A. Hodgson, Dale A. Hodgson, and Linda Nell Hendry; 12 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren including those by marriage. preceded in death by husband, Lynn F. Hodgson, a Tucson Pioneer; two brothers, James and Arthur Pelaar; and grandson, Jimmy Hendry. Mrs. Hodgson worked as a secretary and then as a claims adjuster in her own business. She was active in First Baptist and Amphi Bible Churches as a Sunday School Teacher for 75 years where she played organ and piano. She made Butterfly Quilts for all the grandchildren and lived on the family farm on Roger Rd. and Fairview since age 13, which was a haven for holiday dinners and vacations for all of the children and grandchildren. It's the end of an era for a Tucson Pioneer family. Service Thursday, 1:00 p.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY. Friend may call one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery, N. Oracle & W. OSCAR 'LOU' MORRISON, 52, passed away on November 6, 1999. Oscar was born in Tucson, Arizona, on June 19, 1947. He was a graduate of Tucson High School, the University of Arizona, and was an integral part of the community. Oscar was involved in numerous sports activities. He was an accomplished athlete, excelling in the areas of football and track and field. In addition to his love of sports, Oscar was also involved as an active member of student and government affairs.
In 1971, Oscar and his wife moved to California, where he continued his love of working with youth in the area of human services. All who knew Oscar were aware of his passion for counseling and mentoring troubled youth. It was in this area that he specialized, and spent approximately 28 years cultivating his dedication to his profession. He had a special love for Boys Republic, where he worked in numerous management capacities, ultimately, as Associate Director of Boys Republic. Oscar possessed the unique ability to interact with all around him. All who knew him, loved, cherished, and respected him as a 'genuine' friend. We are all richer for having known him. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of thirty one years, Patricia A. Morrison; sons, Kevin P. Morrison and Justin T. Morrison; mother, Ethel L. Coddie; father-in-law, Herman Craig; brother-in-law, Ken Craig; brothers, Billy D. Morrison and wife Clarice Morrison of Phoenix, Arizona, Bobby Morrison, Ed.D., Kenny Coddie, and sister Wilette Coddie Diggs and husband Orville S. Diggs, DDS; nieces, Dana Morrison May, Stacey M. Morrison, Stephanie N. Morrison, Misty L. Craig, and Nicole Craig; nephews, Aaron R. SELLMAN, Lowell D., born May 5, 1917 in Correctionville, Iowa, died November 4, 1999 in Tucson, Arizona. Survived by wife, Grace Soper-Sellman of Tucson; stepdaughter, Linda Campbell of PA; several nieces and nephews in Iowa; and several step grandchildren. Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Gauthier in 1992; and his parents, Elmer and Bernice Alvin Sellman. Lowell was employed by Sundstrand Aviation in Denver, CO for 27 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings, NE. WALDORF, Frances Lillian 'Pat', 95, entered eternal life on November 7, 1999. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Morse R. Waldorf. Born in Pembina, North Dakota on October 20, 1904, she moved to Morenci, AZ in 1942. She worked as a substitute teacher for the Morenci School System for over 25 years. She was also a reporter for Copper Era Newspaper, Clifton, AZ. She started the Garden Club in Stargo, and was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Women's Club and various Music Organizations. She was also the Chairperson of the American Heart Association. She moved to Phoenix in 1966 where she did several hula shows and concerts for Old Age Homes. In 1990 she moved to Tucson where she resided until her death. She is survived by sons, Ronald Waldorf of Lakeside, AZ, Lansing (Diana) Waldorf of Tucson, AZ and Francis (Patricia) Waldorf of Safford, AZ; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Casa De La Luz Hospice or the American Heart Association. FRANCIS T. WOLFE was born June 5, 1921 in Stella, Nebraska and died on November 8, at his home in Tucson after a long illness. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was awarded the Bronze Star for service in the legendary Bushmasters 158th Combat Unit during World War II and moved his family to Tucson in 1949, where he became a well known businessman.
He was a leader in the field of outdoor advertising and manager and an owner of Arizona Neon for 22 years and of the Pearsons Sign Company Tucson facility from the early 1970's until his death. For many years and until declining health recently caused him to resign, he was an active participant in the Tucson Citizens Sign Code Committee; his participation resulted in major changes to Tucson's sign code. In the 1960's he was instrumental in the creation, design and construction of one of the country's best known advertisements, the UHaul signs featuring a trailer atop a revolving pole. This launched a vendor relationship with U-Haul that spanned four decades.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Lujuana Wolfe Treadwell and Marti E. Morey; son-in-law Wes Morey Jr.; daughter-in-law, Jean Fedigan; nephew, Foster Brown; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Carol, John, Michael, Rick, Margaret, Shanna, April and Tracy; and great-grandchildren Brenda, Britanny, and Briana. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lorene H. Wolfe; his son Michael C. Wolfe; his granddaughter Pami; and his brothers and sisters, Elisha, Donnell, Robert, Virginia, and Joan.
Services will be at 10:00 on November 11, 1999 at St. Ambrose Church, 300 S. Tucson Boulevard. Burial to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. McDowall, David, 58, departed this life on November 4, 1999. David is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Sharon McDowall; his loving daughter and son, Arlene (Joe) Hillyer and David (Denise) McDowall and three very special grandchildren, Joey and Nicole Hillyer and Katie McDowall. David will be greatly missed by his brothers Bill (Agnes and her mother, Mary Ryan), Bobby (Rae) and Jimmy (Mary) McDowall and their families as well as by his father-in-law, Bill Boone; his sister-in-law Patti Boone (Craig) Otto; his brothers-in-law, John (Liz) Boone and James Savage and their families and David's many friends in Arizona where he retired and in New Jersey where he worked for General Motors in the Delco Battery Division.
