BERGMAN, Denver D. 'Denny', passed away November 8, 1999. He was born January 19, 1919 in Bryan, OH, the son of Dale and Jessie (Fisher) Bergman. During WWII, Mr. Bergman served in the Air Force and was awarded the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Lou (Ott); sons, Charles (Linda) of PA and Chris (Stacey) of CO; granddaughter, Danielle; sisters, Edna Wagner of FL and Betty Kemp of OH. He was preceded in death by his brother, Oakley on October 29, 1999. Mr. Bergman was active in the youth bowling program for several years in OK and AZ. GLANC, Aleksander, 85, of Tucson, entered into rest November 7, 1999. He is survived by his friends, Mickey and Karen Munson and their son, Thomas. A. E. 'GENE' MAGEE, age 92, passed away on November 3, 1999. He is now reunited with his loving wife Pauline Magee. Gene was born in Kremlin, OK, July 5, 1907. Gene arrived in Tucson in 1924. He was in the first graduating class of the New Tucson High building in 1925. He graduated from the UofA with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1930. He worked for T.E.P. and was manager of Tucson Rapid Transit bus company for eight years. He founded Western Ways Photographic Services and then started Magee Engineering in 1948. He retired in 1995. He also furnished the antique aerial photographs used by Jim Glinski in the book 'Above Tucson Then and Now'. He is survived by his son, Darel Magee; his daughter-in-law, Anne Magee; his grandchildren, Kimberly, Abraham and Kevin Magee. RICHARD 'DICK' WILLIAM MCKEE, 43, died October 20, 1999, of complications resulting from a bone marrow transplant to cure leukemia. Dick passed away at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington. Dick was born in Hammond, Indiana on August 1, 1956. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and English. Upon graduation, Dick taught English and was a debate coach. Dick was also a graduate of the University of Arizona College of Law. Since 1992, Dick served as a Deputy County Attorney with the Civil Division of the Pima County Attorney's Office where he handled all of the contractual litigation for Tucson Electric Park and participated in negotiations to bring the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago White Sox to Tucson for Spring Training. Prior to joining the County, Dick was an attorney at the firm of Miller, Pitt & McAnally. He also served on the House Interior Committee under Congressman Morris Udall in Washington, D.C. where he helped draft the Arizona Desert Wilderness Act that created and preserved the Baboquivari Peak Wilderness. Dick has served as the Conservation Chair of the Sierra Club Rincon Group. He was also involved with Save the Scenic Santa Ritas, an organization which worked to defeat the Rosemont Land Exchange and preserve the Santa Rita Mountains. Dick enjoyed life. He appreciated his family and many wonderful friends. Dick was very grateful to all those who supported the Downtown Tucson Bone Marrow Donor Drive and was encouraged beyond measure by all the kindness and warm wishes he received in the last year and especially while in Seattle. Dick was a remarkably intelligent, kind and witty person whose courage was undaunted. He is missed by his loved ones and his dog, Holmer. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne of Tucson; mother, Marilynne of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Kathy; nephews Bryan, Jason and Kyle all of Jamaica, Iowa. Dick was cremated and internment was in Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service in Tucson is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at 3:30 p.m. at the Manning House, 450 W. Paseo Redondo. BANKS, Warren O., 89, died November 8, 1999. BLOOM, Adeline Celia Greenberg, 79, passed away after a brief illness on November 10, 1999. preceded in death by her first husband, William V. Greenberg. She is survived by her husband, Louis Bloom of Tucson; daughter, Eileen M. Greenberg of Woodbridge, VA; son, Bruce D. (Alayne) Greenberg of Tucson; sister, Rita B. Gordon of Harrisburg, PA. She is survived by seven grandchildren. A resident of Tucson since 1961, Mrs. Bloom was a co-owner of Deluxe Cleaners and the former bookkeeper of the University of Arizona School of Law. CHLUPSA, Alice L., 85, of Glendale AZ for 35 years and Tucson, AZ for the past two and a half years. She passed away at her son's (Louis) Tucson residence, on Saturday November 6 1999. Alice was born November 19, 1913 in Kankakee, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Chlupsa; parents, George Hauser and Dorathea Fink; and sister, Ruth Hauser. DAVIS, Ruble B., 83, of Tucson, was born October 21, 1916 in Thomasville, NC. He passed away on November 9, 1999 following an auto accident, after years of declining health. Surviving at home is his wife of 62 years, Lillie Mae Gourley Davis; one daughter and son-in-law, Patty (Richard) Kirk. Surviving family in NC includes daughter and son-in-law, Judy (John L.) Hill; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Colie Wilson, Junior Hicks; two sisters, Dorothy Strickland, Pauline Moore and many other loving family members and friends. GIERSDORF, Lester Floyd, 85, entered into rest on Sunday, November 7, 1999. He was born August 22, 1914 in Walback, NE to parents Laura Fritcges and Floyd Giersdorf. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly Buhlman of 63 years. Lester is survived by sisters, Betty McMillon and Fern Phontios, both of Grand Island, NE; son, Maynard Giersdorf of Sharon Springs, KS; and daughter, Laura Jean Giersdorf of Tucson, AZ. He leaves six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild including those by marriage. He moved to Tucson where he has lived for the past 20 years. Before moving Lester and Lilly raised their family in Nebraska. He worked for a living as a farmer, a mechanic for Chevy and as a security guard for New Holland. After retiring Lester and Lilly worked together in their home for Western Lumber until her death in 1996. Lester was a long time member of the Mountain View Church of the Nazarene. Lester was a man of great compassion and love, not only for his family and friends but for everyone he met. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 1999 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. HICKS, Victor Ernest, passed away November 10, 1999 at Valley Healthcare where he had resided for the last four months. He was born in Franklin County Arkansas on February 21, 1913 to Bailey and Georgia Hicks. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cleo; and his six brothers, Bailey, John, Guy, Bill, Paul (Doc), and George (Pete). Survivors include daughter, Jana; son, Dan (Susan); grandchildren, Jacque, Kim, Mac, Darren; and great- grandchildren, Kelsey and Natasha.
Victor was a bartender for 52 years starting at the Arizona Inn, Pioneer Hotel, Pago Pago, and the Packem Inn. For a short time he worked at the defense plant during WWII here in Tucson. He made many friends and never forgot their names. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
