HUGHES, Raul M., 89, of Tucson, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita and great-granddaughter, Melissa Armenta. He is survived by eight daughters, Sylvia Baranski, Ruby Zebas, Julie DePrinzio, Virginia Gurland, Verona Gonzales, Christine (Jerry) Corlies, Lisa (Ken) Todd, Yvonne Johnson; one son, Clayton Hughes; fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren. Raul proudly served the country he loved during World War II as a Rifleman in Company E of the 158th Arizona National Guard Infantry Regiment and participated in three campaigns in the Asiatic Pacific Theater; New Guinea, Southern Philippines Liberation, and Luzon. In addition to Campaign Medals and Ribbons, he was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a life member of VFW Post #549. He will be very much missed by his daughters and son. The family would like to thank T.M.C. Hospice Staff for their support and kindness; and to Fr. Tucson Blvd. Interment will follow at South Lawn cemetery.
HOLLY RUTH KEPPEL, born March 4, 1952 at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California, died December 18, 1999, in her home in Tucson. A respected veterinarian for nearly 20 years, Holly's lifelong love of animals also led her to open her own animal shelter in the last year of her life, despite her failing health. She was an avid runner, cyclist and swimmer, and competed in many athletic events and triathlons until illness prevented her. She was beloved by clients and competitors as well as friends and family, and she will be sorely missed.
She is survived by husband, Spencer Kolb; children, Terri, Tracy and Corey; mother, Lee Boyer; sister, Jane (Ron) Zastaury; and stepfather, Dale Hall.
A service in honor of Holly's life and the many contributions she made to the lives of others, both animal and human, will be held at Grace St. Paul Church, 2331 E. Adams, at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 23. It was Holly's wish that traditional mourning not be observed, but that we come together in good cheer to celebrate the passing of her spirit from this plane to the next.

KOTHER, Carl Albert, Jr., 69, died December 19, 1999. Husband of Sue Kother; father of Carl (Debra) Kother, III of Seagoville, TX and Susan (Larry) Chavers of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; grandfather of April Whitbeck, Stephanie Whitbeck and Yancey Chavers; brother of Ellen Kiech and Charles Kother. He was dedicated to his service and career with the U.S. Air Force, and served in Vietnam. He retired to Arizona in 1976. He attended Pima Community College where he received two associate degrees in Electronic Communications. Carl worked for the Arizona Dept. of Public Safety for five years as a radio technician. McMANN, Jay Warren, 78, died December 18, 1999. PEDRAZA, Jesus C., born July 22, 1924 in Santa Rita, NM, returned to our lord, December 18, 1999 in Tucson. Survived by wife of 54 years, Mildred Pedroza; children, Gloria, Theresa, Jesse Jr., John, Connie, Joseph, Camille and Judith. Mr. Pedroza is also survived by 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 'Chuy' served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and after an honorable discharge, he served as a policeman in Silver City, NM. TRUJILLO, Ron Robert, 24, of Tucson, passed away December 19, 1999. Survived by parents, Enrique C. and Rita Trujillo; sisters, Ramona R. and Rebecca H. Trujillo, and Roberta C. Ron graduated from Pueblo High School. He also participated in the Special Olympics floor hockey and Challenger Little League. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. He will be missed by all of us.

VAN CAMP, Mary Louise, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 18, 1999. She was born in Blanchester, Ohio on November 28, 1916, and made Tucson her home in 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Van Camp. She is survived by two children, Sherry and Rick (Cathy), both of Tucson; two grandchildren, Ryan (Melodie) of Kansas City, KS and Tara of Tucson; and two great granddaughters, Amanda and Rebecca, both of Kansas City. DAVIS, MARLIS J. passed away on December 19, 1999 after a two year courageous battle with cancer. A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, Marlis was an inspiration to everyone she encountered. She held the position of Director of the University of Arizona Parking and Transportation Department for many years. She carried out her duties with dignity, grace, compassion and efficiency. We are all saddened by Marlis' death because throughout her life she made the university, the community and the world a little brighter in so many ways.
