GABUSI, Frank, Attorney at Law and graduate of the University of Arizona Collage of Law (1960), passed away the morning of Christmas Eve, 1999. By the grace of God, he was placed on this earth November 26, 1936, in Tucson, Arizona, the first child of immigrant parents, Mary Ortega and Frank Gabusi. Born the eldest of five children he was thus cast early on in the leadership role for which he was so truly suited. Frank was raised in Clifton, Arizona, where he graduated from high school as class valedictorian. After law school, he moved to Yuma where for more than thirty years he practiced law until the day he died. A renaissance man, elegant in word and deed, steeped in a tradition of history and learning, he could play a mean game of golf, afterwards cook up a full course meal worth of Cordon Blue, and top it off with an evening of lively debate and discourse.
A man of towering intellect, he made sure matters of the heart took precedent over matters of the mind. He was, first and foremost, a devoted family man who was immensely proud of his three children. Family came before work, and he would make every effort to ensure that was so.
A Roman Catholic seminary student turned lawyer, he went from being a spiritual counselor to a legal counselor. A man of strong morals and ethical convictions, he was never afraid to stand his ground when he was right. That conviction powered his concern for those less fortunate, often befriending clients who needed more that an attorney.
Frank was a man historically resistant to change who, nevertheless, managed to recreate himself when overnight, his life was forever altered by a tragic car accident resulting in quadriplegia. He faced this tremendous physical adversity with the same strength of heart and mind that was his trademark. Adapting and overcoming his situation to the best of his abilities, he was keenly aware of the fact that he could not have made it through this difficult time without the love and help of his family and friends and the tremendous outpouring of compassion and goodwill from his colleagues in the legal community. For this, his family thanks you.
Happy and hardworking to the end, the latter part of his life was made all the more special by the constant and caring presence of the mother of his children, Elizabeth Gabusi. She helped him achieve the happiness and peace of mind he so richly deserved. For this, we are eternally grateful.
The family is also thankful for the devotion and love shown by Marisela Miranda, Frank's longtime colleague and executive assistant, who was there for him, day in and day out, in good times and bad. For this again, we are grateful.
Frank is survived by his children, Franc, Andrea, Mario; Elizabeth Gabusi; his siblings John Gabusi (Linda), Christina Angle, Rebecca Limas (Anthony), and Martha Taylor (Abbott).
To the end he was a good father, a good husband, a good brother, a good son, a good man, and we loved him.
Services will be held Thursday, December 30, 1999 at 11:30 a.m. Immaculate Conception Parish, 505 Ave B, Yuma, Arizona. (520) 782-7516.
