SCHECHTER, Samuel A., 80, a Silver Spring Dentist for over 38 years, died of cancer December 30, 1999 at his home in Tucson. Dr. Schechter, a native of Philadelphia, received a degree from Temple University after serving in the Army during WWII where he was stationed in Europe. He was a fellow of General Dentistry and a member of the Maryland State Dental Association. He also was a member of Adas Israel Congregation. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Minnie Schechter, now of Tucson; three children, Neil (Marjorie) Schechter of Baltimore; Randi (Ed) Shakin of Potomac; and Sherrie (Todd) Feinstein of Chicago; and six grandchildren, Julia and Max Schechter, Aaron and Sara Shakin and Suzanne and Jill Feinstein. Services were held Sunday, January 2, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile, with Rabbi Robert Eisen officiating. RUSSELL ACKERMAN, 78, died of heart failure December 30, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. He is a retired teacher from Glenbrook South High School in IL. He graduated from Iowa State College, Colorado State College and attended Northern Illinois University. He moved to AZ in 1979. He greatly enjoyed his volunteer work at Tohono Chul Park, Tucson Botanical Gardens, and Northwest Hospital. He was an organ donor. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; two nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and two sisters-in-law. A memorial service will be held later in IL. He will be greatly missed. ADAIR, Boyda L., age 84, of Tucson, passed away January 1, 2000. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James Adair; daughter, Jo Carol (Richard) Hutchins; grandsons, James A. Stewart and Corey L. (Carolyn) Stewart; sisters, June Campbell and Donn Gechter; brother, Loren (Betty) Lacy; and many nieces and nephews. Boyda graduated in 1937 from Kansas State University and began her career serving as Chief Dietitian at Grassland Hospital in New York and later with the Veterans' Administration and taught first grade and elementary music for the Tucson Unified School District for 25 years, retiring in 1981. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. January 5, 2000 at South Lawn cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the First Christian Church, 740 E. AMELIA 'AME' YOST BAILEY entered eternal life on January 2, 2000. Born February 28, 1916, she was the wife of the late LeRoy Robert Bailey. BONDESEN, Frida, died of cancer on December 28, 1999 in Honefoss, Norway. She was born in Jevnaker, Norway, January 17, 1923. She came to USA in 1959 and married
David Bondesen in 1960. They moved to Tucson, AZ in 1980. Frida was a very active member of the Norse Federation, Tucson Chapter, and a life member of Sons of Norway. She was everybody's best friend, loved and respected by all who knew her. She always reached out to help others, so kind and compassionate, a truly good person. Frida volunteered for many years for Casa de los Ninos, and was a member of Desert Haven Church of Christ. She moved back to her home country in January 1999, there she will be put to rest where Dave also is buried, in the Erlandsen family grave. Services will be held Wednesday, January 5. All her friends here cherish the memories of Frida and will miss her very much.

DIEDRICH, Robert B., 93, a resident of Tucson, died January 1, 2000 in Devon Gables Health Care Center. He was born in Trenton, Missouri, February 13, 1906 to mother, Othelia and father, Louis Diedrich. Survivors include his granddaughters, Susan Wittekind of Oakley, California and Paula Burchett of Bakersfield, California; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary, in 1992, and his only son, Robert B. Diedrich, Jr. in 1968. He also has two brothers, Lawrence and Luke. Mr. Diedrich was an Association Executive for the Pipefitters Trade Union in California and Tucson, Arizona and also a busy coin dealer, collector. DOWNEY, George Stephen, 89, of Tucson, died Thursday, December 30, 1999. George S. Downey, beloved husband of Ann Downey. A devoted father of Maryanne (John) Bone, George Jr., Joseph, John, Stephen, Therese Verry, Rosemary, James, Miriam and Annemarie; cherished grandfather of Joshua and Diana Bone; Thomas and Matthew Verry; loving brother of Marie Barry and cousin, Margaret Howard. George was in the Military Service during World War II. After almost 50 years as a bank officer, George retired to Arizona with his family to serve as Director of San Clemente Schoolhouse for ten years. An avid sports fan and animal lover. OPAL DORTHEA HIRT, 79, of Tucson, died January 2, 2000. Born in Vian, OK, she was the past State President of the Rebekah Assembly and an active volunteer at the church.
She is survived by her former husband, Jay V. Hirt; two sons, Ray and Jay; three sisters, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

HOLESAPPLE, Abbie Y., 88, born in Bellbuckle, Tennessee, died peacefully in his sleep Monday morning, December 27, 1999, in his Tucson home.
Mr. Holesapple attended the University of Alabama and the University of Mississippi as an undergraduate. In 1936, he received his law degree from the University of Arizona and was admitted to the Arizona Bar.
He entered the army during World War II and served in various capacities before becoming a captain in the Judge Advocate General's Office.
He was active in the development of the University of Arizona President's Club and the University Foundation.
He practiced law in Tucson for over 60 years and received a service award from the Arizona Bar Association for his long years of active practice.
Mr. Holesapple is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Strickler Holesapple; daughter, Linda H. Johnson of Los Altos, California; three grandchildren, Carolyn of Boston, Massachusetts, Hardy of San Ramon, California, Katie of Los Altos, California; sister, Betsy Conner of Tucson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests donations in his memory be sent to the St. Joseph's Hospital Diabetes Care Center, 350 N. Wilmot Rd., Tucson, AZ 85711.

McCARTY, Roland A., Chief Master Sargent Retired, loving husband, dedicated father and gentle man, passed away peacefully to heaven at his home on January 2, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty McCarty (Jo); his daughters, Tamala Ann (Timothy) Kohler, Cathy Lorene (Alvin) Blair; grandchildren Daniel; Katrina and Julianne Kohler, and Ryan, Philip and Jenna Blair.
A blessing to those who knew him, Mac was born October 12, 1924 in Maud, Oklahoma. He graduated from Maud High School in 1943. Upon graduation he entered the Army Air Corp until the end of WWII when he went to East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma for two years. He reentered the Air Force in 1951 from which he retired in 1971 with many commendations. After retiring from the service he worked for Tucson Realty and Trust Co., Rayco, and Seat Cover King.
Above all Mac loved his Lord, his family, and a game of golf every so often. You'll be so greatly missed, Mac (daddy), and loved forever.
Private services will be held at Golf Links Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2000 with graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to TMC Hospice would be much appreciated.
MONTAGNINO, Florence (aka Florence Angelino Montagnino), age 93, died in Tucson, AZ on December 31, 1999. She was the widow of Samuel C. Montagnino who died in 1971 and was also preceded in death by her son, Anthony S. Montagnino, and grandsons, Mark Schlosser and William (Billy) Johnson. She was born in Silver Creek, NY and lived in Western New York until 1985, when she moved to Tempe, AZ. Survived by daughters, Norma Plicato, Tucson, AZ, Rose (Richard) Olsgaard, Bellevue, WA, Dolores Johnson, Phoenix, AZ; and son, Salvatore (Lorrie) Montagino, Oro Valley, AZ. Also survived by sisters, Rose Lazarony, Vera Catalano; brother, Samuel Angelino all of Western New York, and by sister, Angeline Pisa, Glendale, CA. Survived by brothers, Kenneth (Marilyn) of West Orange, NJ, Robert of Vero Beach, FL; and sister, Gertrude of Vero Beach, FL; nieces, Candy, Robin, Karen and Jennifer; and nephews, Larry and Bill. Jenny took her nurse's training at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. She moved to Tucson in the late 1940's and worked for several doctors. Jenny was deeply devoted to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, The Altar Group and her many good friends there. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage and always dreamed of visiting Sweden but her health would not permit it. Services will be held Thursday, January 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1949 E. Helen, Tucson. Memorial donations may be made to the Church.
