Wife of Richard Curtis; mother of Margot (Ralph) Padilla and Rosemarie (Joseph) Anthony all of Tucson; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by daughters, Anna Juliet and Matilda Sanford and son, Richard Renaud. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2000 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Burial in Holy Hope cemetery. SALAZAR, Erma Cecilia 'Chila' passed away January 02, 2000. Born January 16, 1943, a native Tucsonan. preceded in death by parents, Armando and Rosario Salazar; brother, Victor Salazar. Survived by beloved companion, Rudy G. Sandoval, Sr.; daughter, Lisa M. (Abel Sr.) Soto; sons, Rudy R. (Ellen) Robles, Rudy A. Sandoval, Jr., and Armando M. (Yvonne) Sandoval; twin sister, Sylvia Salazar. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and 13 grandchildren.
Cecilia was foremost a wonderful, nurturing, selfless mother and grandmother. She leaves a legacy of unconditional love for all family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 06, 2000 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, January 07, 2000, 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, 801 N. ROSE R. SAMMS, 90, of Tucson, formerly of Twin Buttes, passed away on December 31, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank F. Samms; brother, Pedro N. Revello; and sister, Yolanda Mixon. Survivors include her sisters, Josephine Revello, Helen Mixon, and Connie Parker, plus many loving nieces and nephews. SCHWINDT, Herbert L., 64, died Saturday, January 1, 2000 in Tucson. Survived by his wife, Renee Schwindt; two daughters, Dawn (William, Sr.) Green, Kimberly Schwindt; two brothers, Keith Schwindt, Dale Schwindt; one sister, Connie Rummel; mother, Dorothea Schwindt; along with three grandchildren. Services and burial will be in Hillside, Ill. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338.

BARBARA ANN STURGES, 87, formerly of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, died in Tucson on December 31, 1999 of complications resulting from surgery and subsequent heart attack. On the threshold of a new millennium, she began eternal life with God and her husband, Gene, who preceded her in 1992. Barbara Sturges was a loving and devoted woman whose life was characterized by her personal presence and grace, service to others, and zest for life. She was beloved by all who knew her as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, working woman and community volunteer. Barbara was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan where she attended the School of Commerce. She worked in the Michigan Bell Business Office, at Detroit Electrograph, and then as an Executive Secretary at the S.S. Kresge Company (now K-Mart) where she met and married W.E. 'Gene' Sturges in 1952, who eventually became Vice President of Personnel for the K-Mart Corporation. During her 40 year marriage, Barbara's strong commitment and exceptional love for her husband, daughter, and extended family created a positive example of daily living. Barbara extended her love and life to the community through her volunteer activities including the Colony Town Club of Greater Detroit and the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. She also contributed generously to many philanthropic organizations. Barbara's style and stature has been a beacon to those whom she has loved. The profound sadness we feel is a measure of how much we loved her and how much we celebrate both her earthly and eternal life with her Lord and the loved ones who have preceded her. Survivors include her daughter, Jan Sturges; sister, Mary Christian; nephew, Tom Christian; niece, Mary Beth Harris; and grandnieces, Lauren Christian and Kathleen Monroe. Friends may call at the chapel at Catalina United Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2000. Interment at East Lawn Palms cemetery. A memorial service will be heldat 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at Catalina United Methodist Church, Rev. Hal Cowart and Chaplain Bill Killian will officiate. TAYLOR, Elvera (Elvie), 71, of Tucson, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2000. She is survived by husband Donald, two daughters, Sandra in Missouri and Julie in Colorado, and four grandchildren. Elvie was born in New York city on February 10, 1928. She was very active in the Tucson Women's Club and the Ott Y Club, where she had many dear and loyal friends. Elvie was a caring, loving and giving person who touched many peoples lives and will be remembered with affection and love by her many friends. A memorial service will be at Hudgel's Swan Funeral Home, 1335 S. Swan Rd, at 11:00AM, on Wednesday, January 5, 2000. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter or The Humane Society.

WENSEL, Jane Frances, born December 17, 1918, died January 1, 2000 at a local hospital. She was preceded in death by beloved aunt, Edna Hudler and her parents, Dr. Harry and Jane Wensel. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Garcia, and a brother, Henry Wensel of New Orleans, LA. She has been a resident of Tucson for the last half century and was a member of St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. Third Street. A Memorial Service will be held there Thursday, January 6, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mark's Preschool Scholarship Fund. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

ARNDT, Bruce Gerald, 49, of Tucson, died December 29, 1999. Survived by wife, JoAnn; sons, Kyle and Kale Arndt; brothers, Richard (Liz) Arndt and Norman (Olga) Arndt; sisters-in-law, Connie Winslow, Helen Kelly, Susan Lanich; mother-in-law, Olive Lanich; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Arndt graduated from Flowing Wells High School and then worked for Flowing Wells School District for over 20 years in the maintenance and grounds departments. He was also an avid, obsessive sprint car racing fan. Memorial Service, Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Casas Adobes Baptist Church, 2131 W. Ina Rd., with Assoc. Pastor Phil Lynn officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery.

AMELIA 'AME' YOST BAILEY entered eternal life on January 2, 2000. Born February 28, 1916, she was the wife of the late LeRoy Robert Bailey. She is survived by her children, Joe (Glenda) Bailey, Robert (Barbara) Bailey and Jeanie (Eddie) Martin; grandchildren, Gary (Michelle) Bailey, Gloria (Joseph) Elio, Patricia (Shaun) Hopkins, Kristina Bailey, James R., Suzanna and Christina Bailey; a sister, Helen Wahl and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, James D. Bailey. Ame wanted everyone to know that she was 'Y2K Compliant!' A visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY. Memorial Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Road. BALERIO, Ferminia Juanita, 84, of Marana, died Thursday, December 30, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Agustine; daughter, Sophia (Tony) Morales; grandchildren, Miguel (Rose Mary) Campoy, Estella (Reginald) Armstrong, Victor Campoy, Antonio Morales, Susana Morales; great-grandson, Miguel Campoy, Jr.; sisters, Maria Morales, Avelina Castillo. An all-night wake will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2000 at San Juan Church, Yoem Pueblo, 13200 N. Sandario Rd., Marana. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at San Juan Church. Burial will follow at Holy Hope cemetery. BUSHONG, Wilbur C., retired Staff Sergent USAF, 69, died December 22, 1999. Survived by his wife, Carol; sons, David (Bunny) Bushong and Bud (Toni) Howard; daughter, Rita Bushong; grandchildren, Amanda Bushong, Colleen Coss and Bridget Alese, Tony and Daniel Bushong and Dylan Howard; uncle, Gilbert Hoeinghaus (Nelda) and aunt, Wilma Roberts of Mount Vernon, IL, and many cousins. Wil was a kind and soft spoken gentleman, with a great sense of humor. His blue eyes sparked when he smiled and you couldn't help but smile back at him. We'll miss you, Wil, but your smile will remain in our hearts always. The family would like to express many, many thanks to the staff of the VA Hospital, Nursing Home and Hospice for their care and support. Cryptside Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in East Lawn Palms Mausoleum of Good Shepherd with Military Honors by the Disabled American Veterans. CARLSON, Fred A., entered eternal life on January 2, 2000. Born on February 5, 1908, he was the husband of Thelma (Finch) Carlson to whom he was married for 66 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Barbara Kearney of Tucson, Jacquelyn (Edward) Diamond of Girard, OH; grandchildren, Lisa (Rob) Howard of Tucson, John Kearney of CA, Janet Wojcicki, Dan Diamond; great-grandchildren, Barbara and Debby Wojcicki, Jennefer (Shawn) Sweitzer, Zachary and Carly Diamond, all of OH, and Zachary Howard of Tucson; great-great granddaughter, Jade Sweitzer and sister, Lorna Vince, both of OH, and nieces and nephews. Graveside Funeral Services and Committal will take place on Friday, January 7, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in East Lawn Palms cemetery. A visitation will take place on Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Humane Society.

DOWSE, Agnes E. (Betty), 88, born October 29, 1911 in Middletown, CT, died January 4, 2000. Survived by husband of 68 years, Kenneth I. Dowse; son, Kenneth L. Dowse of Tucson; daughter, Shirley A. Schonebeck of Las Vegas, NV; three grandsons, two granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren also survive. She was the Past President of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 549, Past President District Five Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, member of Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 2 Ladies Auxiliary, member Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 36 and Life member Ladies Auxiliary Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2000 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. LOCKE, Elizabeth Coon, 81, born in Swanton, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 29, 1999 in Tucson. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Caldwell; grandchildren, Lyn Caldwell, Christian Caldwell; sisters, Rotha (Bill) Trainor, Imojene (Ray) Walter, Inez (Bob) Wolff; brothers, Glenn (Bev) Coon, Richard (Geri) Coon and good friend, Donald Ruggles. At Mrs. Locke's request, there will be no services. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

MARTINEZ, Josephine, 52 years, died January 1, 2000 at Louisville, KY. Survivors include daughters, Debra Martinez and Roxanne Weiter; son, Louis J. Martinez, Jr.; grandchildren, Michelle and Stephanie Martinez and Henry Weiter; sisters, Maria, Priscilla and Frances Barraza, Yolanda Felix, Margie Vallejo and Nora Tafoya; brothers, Joe, Oscar and Martin Barraza. Services will be held 10:30 a.m., January 8, 2000 at St. Margaret's Church, 801 N. Grande Ave.

MOORE, Edith C., born June 21, 1917, passed away December 16, 1999. Edi has gone to be with Bob in the happy hunting grounds. She was a former columnist for the Arizona Daily Star, an author and member of Arizona Press Women, A.B.W.A, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She leaves behind family and many friends too numerous to mention, but all dear to her, including Lois McNabb her caregiver for the past three years. Please join us in a celebration of her extraordinary life on January 7, 2000 at 3:30 p.m. at East Lawn Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dignita Hospice, 1730 E. River Rd.

OURS, James J., 74, died January 1, 2000. Survived by his wife, Roberta (Bobbie); children, Alan Ours, Janet Lynn Ours, Annie (Don) Shannon and John L. (Jayme) Jackson III; grandchildren, Jason Ours Duane, Matthew James Ours Duane and Zachary Ours Duane, Tiffany, Ashlyn, Taylor, Joshua, Joseph, Christopher, Hannah and Luke Ours, Daniel, Theresa and Troy Shannon and Kenneth and Keith Jackson; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Ours. James was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy. He had worked for Atlantic Bell for 38 years before retirement. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Inurnment service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2000, with Military Honors by the V.F.W. Post 549 at East Lawn Palms cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Tucson.

WILLIAM C. PEDDY, 74, of Tucson, passed away on January 3, 2000. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by three sons, Charles (Deborah), Robert and Richard (Jan); one daughter, Linki; one brother, Olen; three sisters, Pauline, Grace and June; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends. He served in the United States Army and retired from the United States Air Force as a SMSGT. He was employed by the Department of Corrections, in administrative capacity, for 17 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pima Council on Aging. A memorial gathering is planned for Thursday, January 6 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with service at 5:00 at HEATHER MORTUARY.

PEDERSON, Elizabeth A., 80, of Tucson, passed away January 1, 2000. She is survived by son, Dale and his wife Robin Pederson; daughter, Deborah Spencer; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was a Captain in the Army Nurse Corp. She had served in the European and Pacific Theatres and a member of W.O.S.L. She had worked at Tombstone General Hospital. She was Head Nurse at the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee. She was a Neo-Natal Nurse at UMC. She was also a nurse at the American Red Cross. Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2000 at Christ the King Episcopal Church, Ina and Shannon Rd., Tucson, AZ. Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2000 at Fort Huachuca Post cemetery, Fort Huachuca, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to Christ the King Episcopal Church or Tucson Humane Society. Arrangements by HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd & Swan.

MERCEDES RAY, 73, of Tucson, passed away December 30, 1999, to be reunited with her beloved husband, Roy R. Ray Sr. Born August 13, 1926 in Luzon, Philippines. Mrs. Ray settled in Tucson with her husband in 1948. She loved her children and her grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards and especially cooking. Survived by daughter, Carmelita (Charles) Townsend of Maxton, NC; sons, Roy R. (Louise) Ray Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Randall L. (JoAnn) Ray of Tucson, AZ, Richard A. (Adrienne) Ray of Denver, CO. Also surviving are grandchildren, Dionicia Townsend, Dominique Webster, Shaton Ray, Michelle Ray, Rick Ray, Royce Ray, Rienne and great-grandson, Kyjan Ray. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 6, 2000 between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. with Rosary 7:00 p.m., at ARIZONA MORTUARY UNIVERSITY CHAPEL. Mass Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 7 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial following at Evergreen cemetery.

Karl R. Reinhard - passed away January 2, 2000. Born in Coplay, PA. on January 13, 1916 to Harvey Franklin Reinhard, Sr. and Anna Lena Reinert. Survived by his wife, Janet E. Reinhard; three children, Eric, Karen and Karl; and grandchildren, Chris, Francis, Sarah, Laura West and Andrew Reinhard. Served 34 years in the military/uniformed services: Veteran of World War II – Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. Organizations: 28th Surgical Hospital and 3rd Medical Laboratory. Accepted commission in U.S. Public Health Service on June 21, 1951. Organizations: Rocky Mt. Lab, NIH, Hamilton, Montana, Arctic Health Research Center, Anchorage, AL; Division of Research Grants, NIH, Indian Health Service until retirement on February 1, 1979. Consultant to WHO. Memorial Service on Saturday, January 8 at 1:00P.M. will be held at Lutheran Church of the Foothills, 5102 N. Craycroft Rd. Contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of the Foothills or to Primavera Services.

RUHL, Lynn Jeffrey, passed away January 1, 2000 in Tucson. Lynn was the son of Fred E. Ruhl, who preceded him in death, and Betty (Toms) Ruhl, Tucson residents, formerly of Marion, Ohio. Lynn was born in Findlay, Ohio May 15, 1954, was a graduate of Newark High School in Newark, Ohio and attended Ohio University. He had resided in Tucson since 1976. In addition to his mother, he leaves an aunt, Phyllis (Ruhl) Fetter of Tucson and aunts, Dorothy (Toms) Frost and Donna (Ruhl) Porter; uncle, Henry Ruhl and many cousins, all of Ohio. If desired, contributions may be made to the Arizona Chapter of the American Cancer Society or Carondelet Hospice Services. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338.
