ERMA CECILIA 'CHILA' SALAZAR passed away January 02, 2000. Born January 16, 1943, a native Tucsonan. preceded in death by parents, Armando and Rosario Salazar; brother, Victor Salazar. Survived by beloved companion, Rudy G. Sandoval, Sr.; daughter, Lisa M. (Abel Sr.) Soto; sons, Rudy R. (Ellen) Robles, Rudy A. Sandoval, Jr., and Armando M. (Yvonne) Sandoval; twin sister, Sylvia Salazar. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and 13 grandchildren.
Cecilia was foremost a wonderful, nurturing, selfless mother and grandmother. She leaves a legacy of unconditional love for all family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

SAUNDERS, Velma M., age 75, of Tucson, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2000. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Woodrow Saunders. Velma was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Debby) Saunders of Tucson, Wilson (Jan) Saunders of Diamond Head, Mississippi, and Linda Turner of Mesa; grandchildren, Ted Turner, Dan Turner, Christina Turner, Kira Saunders, and Andrea Canada, Matthew Scott Saunders; great-grandchild, Isaac Canada; and sisters, Leona Palin of Wichita, KS, Elvina Howard of Hortenic, GA and Delpha Ingran of Liberty, KS. HERBERT A. (STEVE) STEVENSON passed away on December 30, 1999. He was born on September 6, 1917. Steve has two children by his first wife Anne O'Neil – Herbert A. Stevenson, Jr. of Tucson and Anne S. Freimuth of Ogden, Utah. He also has three beautiful granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. preceded in death by his second wife, Francis and his three sisters, Margaret, Florence and Dorothy. Survived by his third wife, Alice McKensey; brother, Arthur, his adopted son, David Francis; numerous expended relatives. Steve was a veteran of World War II and spent his career in the U.S. Border Patrol and the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Steve was a Mason and his Blue Lodge is in San Benito, Texas. He was a life member of the Association of Sabbar Oriental Bands (ASOB), and a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. He served as president of Oriental Band in 1978 and 1987. He was also Chief Mandarin of TONG23 in 1978. He also served as president of the Western Association of Sabbar Oriental Bands (WASOB) in 1992-93. He was the co-holder of Oriental Bandsman of the year in 1998. He was never happier than when working and partying with his brother masons especially his niece Leslie and her husband, Gary Miller. Steve will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. THOMPSON, Astrid A., 89, of Tucson, went to be with her Lord on January 3, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Don) O'Brien; grandchildren, Amy (Dana) Wyss and Gail O'Brien; great-grandson, Matthew Wyss; grandnieces, Dorothy Clifton and Sharon Ertle; and great-grandnephew, Jay Clifton. ANDY DELTON VERNON SR., 44, a longtime resident of Tucson, was placed in God's hands on December 31, 1999. He is survived by his only son, Andy Delton Vernon Jr.; father, Kenneth (Dorthea) Vernon; mother, Juna (Donald) Sigurdson, all of Tucson; sister, Alice (Richard) Sauer; two nieces, Amanda and Stephanie Sauer, residents of Newport News, VA. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. Andy enhanced the lives of all those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. WEBB, Beulah Mae, 86, 'Maga' has gone home; there is no pain. Her family and friends will miss her, but know that she is finally at peace.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Marian) Webb; grandchildren, Pam Idler, Julie (John) Salaz, and David Webb; and ten great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church, 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7.
WELDON, Loraine, age 92, died peacefully at home on January 2, 2000. Mrs. Weldon was predeceased by her husband, Roger, a professor of industrial Psychology at the University of Arizona. Mrs. Weldon earned a bachelors and a masters degree at the University of California at Berkeley and was one of the first employees of the Social Security Administration, where she had a successful career. A long-time Tucson resident, she is survived by her nephews, Donn (Mary) Blake, Clark (Patty) Blake, Wilson (Judy) Blake and niece, Alice (Charles) Robinson. A very independent woman, she was able to maintain herself at home with the assistance of a group of very warm and loving caregivers. She was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church at 3601 W. Cromwell Drive, where a memorial service will be held in her honor on Thursday, January 6th at 1:30 p.m. at the sanctuary (call 579-7094 for directions). GEORGIA B. CANNON, 87, born October 12, 1912 in Arlington, TX, died January 3, 2000. Survived by son, Bob Cannon of Oracle, AZ; daughter, Sheron DeBerry of Tucson; daughter-in-law, Shirley Cannon; son-in-law, Ted DeBerry; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 67 years, Herman, preceded her in death in 1998. She is also survived by a brother, Charles Roden of McAlister, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Georgia was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. For fifteen years, along with her husband, she served as director of Sunny Dale Children's Home in Phoenix. She was 'mom' to many boys.
She received Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young girl and walked in that faith all her life. She was a member of Living Word Chapel in Oracle. Her memorial service will be Saturday, January 8, 11:00 a.m. at Living Word Chapel, 3941 W. Hwy 77, in Oracle, AZ. A viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 at the chapel.
DAMENTO, Rose, 90, of Tucson, died January 3, 2000. Rose is survived by sisters, Mary (Vincent) Luciano, Vera (William) Hogan; brother, Peter (Matilda) Damento and many nieces and nephews.
Rose volunteered for many years at Robinson School in Tucson and worked for St. Ambrose Parrish and Convent. She was dedicated to her church and family, and a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, Friday, January 7, 2000 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Vigil Service at 7:00 and Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2000 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, interment will follow at Holy Hope cemetery.

CHARLES ALAN DOWNING, 66, died peacefully January 5, 2 days after suffering a catastrophic stroke at his home.
Born September 7, 1933, in Spokane, WA, he served in the U.S. Army and attended Eastern Washington State University. In 1966, he moved his young family to Arizona when his employer, U-Haul, relocated from Portland, OR. He later worked for 23 years for the Arizona Department of Health Services in Phoenix before retiring to Tucson in December, 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Carolle; daughter, Renee and son-in-law, Edgar Dryden; son, Charlie and daughter-in-law, Beth; and grandson, David Medine, all of Tucson. He has many friends in Phoenix and friends and family in the Pacific Northwest.
He was a devoted son, husband, and father, a steadfast friend, and a compassionate, generous man. He was also a talented artist and superb amateur photographer who loved reading, the outdoors and wildlife. He is already profoundly missed.
His immediate family would like to thank Tucson Fire Department, the staff of TMC's Emergency Unit, and, especially, the staff and volunteers of the TMC Hospice for their help and kindness.

ENGEL, David C., 81, died peacefully on January 4, 2000. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he graduated from Jamaica High School in 1935 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After serving on the New York City Fire Department for 33 years, he retired in 1976. He lived in Safety Harbor, Florida for 22 years before moving to Tucson in August of 1999. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy; three sons, Kenneth of Tucson, Thomas of Calverton, N.Y., and Douglas of New Boston, New Hampshire; as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church at 8625 E. Tanque Verde Rd. on Friday, January 7th, at 4:00 p.m. by the Reverend Frank Nausin. FREDERICK ALAN FIELDER - Died peacefully Thursday, December 30, 1999 in Green Valley. He is survived by three children, Carolyn Fielder Stevens of Green Valley, Frederick Alan Fielder, Jr. (Barbara) of Denver, CO, and Sharon Fielder Woods (Richard) of Phoenix. He is survived also by two brothers, George H. Fielder of Green Valley, John Fielder of Charlotte, N.C.; and a sister, Hametia Fielder King of Bodega Bay, CA. He also leaves nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Born October 23, 1912 in Forth Worth, TX, Mr. Fielder relocated with his family to Tucson in September of 1928. He graduated from Tucson High School in 1931 and attended the University of Arizona as a student of Civil Engineering. He was also a graduate of George Washington University Law School.
A memorial service will be held at the Valley Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 7, 2000 at 10:00 a.m.
JOHN MICHAEL FILECCIA, 50, died instantly of a massive heart attack January 4, 2000. John made his home in Tucson, following his completion of service in the United States Air Force, from 1972-1979. He served his country, based from Turkey, during the Viet Nam War. He was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base during the last years of his military career. His new life in Tucson took him into the auto sales industry and it was there that he touched the lives of so many with his charm and love for life itself. His smiling, twinkling blue eyes will be remembered by all who knew him. In 1992 John established and developed over the last eight years, his small, family-owned business, E-Z Move Movers. Many folks were witness to his lightning speed and skills. His son Phillip will carry on the family business for his father. John is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Phillip Fileccia; daughter, Michelle Fileccia Robinson; brother, Garry Fileccia and family of Bristol, IN; aunts, uncles and cousins from Indiana and Phoenix area and his beloved grandson, Tre Robinson.
God has taken you John, on the wings of Angels and with his tender mercy, allowed you to once again be forever safe and well, close to all you have loved and cherished.
