HANSON, Rose Marie Alexander, 73, of Tucson and Green Valley, passed away December 31, 1999. Born March 19, 1926 in Asheville, NC. preceded in death by husband, Ever L. Hanson; parents, Gilbert Blake and C. Inez (Brumfield) Alexander; brother, James Robert Alexander and sister, Jeraldine A. Muller. Beloved mother of son Eric A. of Prescott and daughter Gail M. of Tucson. Survived by sisters, Anthea A. (Leonard) Freeman of Cleveland, OH and Billie A. King of Lloyd Harbor, NY; brother, Gilbert Blake (Gail) Alexander II of Chapel Hill, NC; 11 nieces and five nephews; and 'adopted' sons, Anirudh (Suhasini) Vaze of Santa Rosa, CA and Vijay (Ann) Soman of San Jose, CA.
Mrs. Hanson helped found the Pueblo Gardens Head Start Program in the 1960's in Tucson. In the 1960's and 1970's she helped University of Arizona foreign students feel welcome to Tucson by showing them Tucson and having them participate in family celebrations and activities. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church of Tucson for 17 years and a charter member of Valley Presbyterian Church of Green Valley. She sang for many years in both church choirs. She blessed her family, friends, and churches with her generosity, her beautiful smile, and the countless Afghans she crocheted and knitted over the years for them.

LAWRENCE A. MACKLIN, 88 years old, died Saturday, December 25, 1999 in Tucson. Survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Thomas) Genandt of Phoenix, Donna Kay (David) Gillock of Vail; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; niece, Georgia Lee (Don) Duncan and family of Tucson. preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Williams, died July 29, 1999. McGARVEY, William 'Bill' - Services for William McGarvey, 47, of Catalina will be 10:30 a.m., Friday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 11575 N. First Ave, Oro Valley. Bill, a long time State of Arizona employee, died while on duty at Mt. Bigelow. He was an engineer for KUATTV for more than 14 years. He was born in Nyack, New York and came to Arizona 15 years ago. He is a graduate of Oswego State University in New York and a member of the Radio Society of Tucson, Inc., Call Sign KZARZ. He was also active in the American Radio Relay League, American Dowser's Society, the Tucson Amateur-Astronomy Association, Cultural Exchange Committee and the Tucson Heritage Experience Festival. Survivors include his wife, Christine; daughters, Caroline and Teresa; his mother, Caroline McGarvey and sister, Karen McGarvey; his nine cats, Schtinker, Bubba, Schnug, Ginger, Magic, Babies, Lucky, Cuddles, Fluffkin; two parrots, Snuggles and Cisco, and one iguana, Fred. DONN MESSER, 48, passed away on December 30, 1999 after a brief illness from pneumonia. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Suzetta Miller and a nephew, Stevie. He is survived by his father, William Messer; by his significant other, Bettina Walker and her son, Dietrich Walker; his stepmother, Betty Messer; and a stepbrother, Charles Fraley, as well as two sisters, Marie Messer and Deanna Hyder. He was originally from Kentucky and lived the last six years of his life in Tucson. Donn attended the University of Kentucky and Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. Experienced in various lines of work, he was primarily an accomplished professional driver. Having driven a semi for Swift Transportation Company, he also operated construction trucks and had been employed as a driver and dispatcher for American Pony Express and Allstate here in Tucson. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the Navy for 18 months in the lines of active duty on a gunboat during that war. A trophied dart player, Donn had been a member of the American Dart Association and the Bluegrass Dart Association from 1984 to 1993, at which time he was captain of a winning dart team in Lexington, Kentucky. MERCY MIRANDA, age 75, entered into eternal life on January 3, 2000. She was born in Tucson on November 16, 1924 to Carolina Mejia and Teodoro Marin. preceded in death by her husband, Santiago G. Miranda; sisters, Dolores Lopez and Tomasa Pasoz; brother, Telesforo Marin and Manuel Guillen.
She is survived by mother, Rafaela Guillen; brothers, Joaquin (Cora) Guillen, Jose Aurelio (Ofelia) Guillen; sisters, Lydia Sereno, Erlinda Pacho, Mercy Martinez, and Rosario Guillen, all of Tucson.
She is also survived by her three sons, Santiago M. (Joan) of Rochester, NH, Jesus R. (Gloria), and Lawrence (Freddianne); two daughters, Diana Celaya, and Carol Plata, 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
She was a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Cursillos in Christianity at St. Margaret's Church. Her love will always remain with those who knew and loved her. She has been healed; she has gone home.

MERCEDES RAY, 73, of Tucson, passed away December 30, 1999, to be reunited with her beloved husband, Roy R. Ray Sr. Born August 13, 1926 in Luzon, Philippines. Mrs. Ray settled in Tucson with her husband in 1948. She loved her children and her grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards and especially cooking. Survived by daughter, Carmelita (Charles) Townsend of Maxton, NC; sons, Roy R. (Louise) Ray Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Randall L. (JoAnn) Ray of Tucson, AZ, Richard A. (Adrienne) Ray of Denver, CO. ROSENTHAL, Nan Hart, widow of Leonard, passed away on December 29, 1999. Survived by daughter, Dale Reiss King; sister, Ida Mouscher; grandsons, Matthew King and Peter Markham; stepdaughters, Alice Markham and Louise Rosenthal. Received her certificate in nursing at age 43 in Chicago. At age 65 authored a popular book on activities for children in the Tucson area. Employed over 14 years at the Arizona Historical Society as their first coordinator of volunteers then as receptionist. Lifetime supporter of humanitarian and environmental causes. STOUGH, Robert D., 70, lifetime resident of Tucson, died January 4, 2000. preceded in death by first wife, Allamae; son, Robert D. WEBB, Beulah Mae, 86, 'Maga' has gone home; there is no pain. Her family and friends will miss her, but know that she is finally at peace.

WEISS, Theresa Marie, age 57, died January 4, 2000. She was born in Tucson, AZ, as Theresa Matthews. She grew up in Vail, AZ and graduated from Pueblo High School in Tucson. She worked 17 years for Greyhound bus lines. She loved Christ, her family, and her friends - devoting most of her life to helping and encouraging others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horton Weiss. She is survived by daughters, Andrea (Robert) Shaw and Leah Christine Weiss; and son, Horton Cyrus Weiss II. ROSE DAMENTO, 90, of Tucson, died January 3, 2000. Rose is survived by sisters, Mary (Vincent) Luciano, Vera (William) Hogan; brother, Peter (Matilda) Damento and many nieces and nephews.
Rose volunteered for many years at Robinson School in Tucson and worked for St. Ambrose Parrish and Convent. She was dedicated to her church and family, and a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
