DOUGLAS, Theodore R. 'Ted', 68, of Tucson, went to be with his Lord on the morning of January 17, 2000. Ted is survived by his loving wife, Verla; children, David (Leigh), Mark (Rita), Susan (Scott Huss); 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Alice (Richard) Best; brother, Clyde (Carol). Ted and Verla married
on April 5, 1953, celebrating their 46th anniversary last year. Ted was a devoted husband, father and friend and will be missed by his loved ones and those whose life he touched daily. Ted was born in San Bernardino, CA on February 23, 1931. He entered the Air Force January 2, 1951 and retired on January 1, 1972 after 21 years of honorable service as an X-Ray Technician. Afterwards, he served an additional 15 years of faithful service with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tucson, retiring in 1991. A memorial service is scheduled Saturday, January 22, at 10 am at the Rincon Baptist Church, 7500 E. Golf Links Rd. Pastor Edward Vernon is officiating. SAMUEL J. FOTI, 83, died January 15, 2000 after valiant battle with respiratory complications caused by a viral infection. A 30 year Army officer who earned degrees from U of Vt. (BS in Chemistry) and Reed College (Masters in Radiobiology), Sam specialized in nuclear medical testing and radiobiology engineering. After retiring, Sam began a second career in Emergency Medical Systems training and operations. A gifted athlete, Sam excelled in tennis as a member of the Senior Army Tennis Team and golf in his younger years, and remained an active golfer to the end. His wife, Eva W. Foti, M.D.; three daughters, Susan Engelken, M.D of KS, Kris Foti, Ph.D. of Tucson and Patsy Foti of OK; two brothers, Joseph Foti of VT and Frank Foti of Fla.; two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews survive him. He will be missed by family and friends for his unbelievably corny jokes, tall golf tales and generosity of spirit. HAWKE, Mayone Ruth Youngs Burns, born in Alma, Michigan, May 1, 1906, died in Tucson, AZ, January 16, 2000. Educated at Kalamazoo College where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in Library Science. Mayone worked for both the Tucson Public Library and the Amphi Elementary School District where she was a tireless advocate for children's reading programs and the availability of quality reading material. She helped found and organize the library of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she was a long time member and leader. Mayone served two terms as president of Altrusa International of Tucson, and held the offices of Secretary and Treasurer for Delta Kappa Gamma (The International Honor Society for Women in Education). She was a devoted supporter of the YWCA and a former moderator of the Presbyterian 'Church Women United'. Survivors include nephews, Scott Youngs of Phoenix, and Norman Youngs of Tucson; also her sister-in-law, Charlotte Youngs of Tucson; two stepsons, George Hawke (Mildred) and Francis Hawke (Avonelle), both of Tucson; and many nephews and nieces in Michigan. Memorial service to be held Sunday, January 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85705. JANET I. HOLM, age 64, of Tucson, Arizona, died on January 12, 2000, after a brief illness. She was a mother, grandmother, homemaker, volunteer and had worked with her husband, a former State Farm Insurance Agent.
Janet was born on July 6, 1935 in Lester Prairie, Minnesota to Clifford and Ella (Halorson) Beise. She had lived in Tucson since 1968, and had previously lived in Greeley, Colorado and Winona, Minnesota.
Janet attended Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota where she graduated with an Associates Degree. While attending Hamline, Janet was a cheerleader and a member of the women's wresting team. She also met Bill Holm at Hamline University, and they were married
on July 9, 1955. Her husband preceded her in death.
Janet Holm is survived by one son and three daughters, Bill Holm of Scottsdale, Arizona, Susan Bryant of Fostoria, Ohio, Patty Ferrentino and Jean Holm of Tucson; and eight grandchildren.

HOOVER, Francis 'Frank' of Tucson, AZ, passed away on January 16, 2000. He was born in Goshen, Indiana on January 20, 1918. Frank was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Waskiewicz. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Lemarr Hoover; his stepsons, Ronald E. Hamann of Santa Rosa, CA, and Harold Hamann Jr. of South Bend, IN; son, Robert Hoover of Storm Lake, Iowa; four brothers, Howard Hoover of Port Charlotte, FL, Ray Hoover of Osceola, IN, Roy Hoover of Sebring, FL, George Hoover of Hopewell, VA; and 12 grandchildren. Frank was a member of the Mason's Lodge 74 as well as the Disabled Veterans of America, Chapter #2. Along with his wife, Mary, he was also a member of Old Pueblo Square Wheeler, #144. LIAKOPULOS, Ana Maria, of Tucson, passed away January 17, 2000. Survived and dearly loved by daughters, Emily (Alfonso) Robles of Hacienda Heights, CA and Helen (Bert) Villanueva of Tucson; She is known as 'Tani' by her grandchildren, Margo (Mario) Stagliano, Bob Robles, Annamarie (Frank) Kalan, Patricia (Carlos) Romero; eight great-grandchildren, Cristina and Gina Stagliano, Alexander and Erik Kalan, Nicholas and Andrea Romero and Melissa, Sherry and River Robles. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jimmy Robles. Born in Mexico, Maria was a kind and loving person who became a friend to everyone she met. She loved people and people loved her. She respected and celebrated the cultural differences in everyone. Prior to moving to Tucson, Maria was a resident of Douglas, AZ where she was the owner of a beauty salon for 25 years and made many friends. She has been a resident of Tucson for 50 years. Maria was a devout Catholic who devoted her life to serving others. She was a member of the following: Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Benedictine Sisters Perpetual Adoration, Legion of Mary, and Third Order of St. Francis. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 20, 2000 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY. Maria loved to play the piano and had a beautiful voice. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
MIRANTI, Carmen N., age 69, of Tucson, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2000. A retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal service and a veteran of the United States Navy, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anastasia, who passed away in May of 1999. Carmen is survived by his children, Carmen J. (Trish) Miranti, Diana (Fred) Antrim, Mark, Kathleen, and Louis Miranti, Jo (Ken) Morrison; brother, Anthony Miranti of Scottsdale, AZ; and sister, Karen Fitzgibbons of Foster City, CA; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

PETERSON, Victoria Maria Sandberg, was born in the farming community of Ruthton, Minnesota on May 22, 1910. She was employed by Pepsi Cola and Montgomery Wards in accounting. She married
Ralph L. Peterson in 1947. They and daughter, Maryann, moved to south Texas and then to Tucson in 1951. She passed away on January 10, 2000 as a result of complications from a hip fracture. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph of Tucson; parents, Emma and Ole Sandberg of Ruthton; brother, John O. Sandberg of Tucson; and sister, Clara E. Sandberg of Tucson. In addition to Maryann, she is survived by a granddaughter, Nicolette; sister and brother-in-law, Isabelle and William Matus of Benson, Minnesota; sisterin-law, Elsie Sandberg of Tucson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 4:00 in the Recreation Center of Crescent Manor officiated by Rev. James Lundeen of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Interment in Minnesota will be at a later date.

YOUNGGREN, Beth, passed away peacefully at 4:00 p.m., Monday, January 17, 2000 at the Carondelet Hospice Center in Tucson, Arizona. She was 82 years old. Born in Exeland, Wisconsin on April 29, 1917, she has lived in Tucson for the past 40 years. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Dr. Newell Younggren; her two sons, Steve and Jeff, and their spouses and children, Emily Zola, a foster daughter, her children as well as many relatives and friends. OSCAR O. ZACHARIAS - Born April 24, 1931, passed away January 17, 2000 following a courageous fight with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Betty; eldest daughter, Emilia Stwora and two granddaughters, Korrine (16) and Robin (13); youngest daughter, Maria Dennington and grandson, Justin Tilley (14). He is also survived by his stepdaughter and husband, Joanne and Gary Allen and their sons, Jon, Berkie and Ryan and a great-granddaughter, Audrey; stepson, William Feurstock and his precious kitties that he loved so much, Buck and Baby. Oscar began working for American Airlines in 1955 and retired as Ground Service Fuel Crew Chief after 38 1/2 years of service. He received numerous awards throughout the years from American Airlines for his perfect attendance. He was a member of American Airlines Retirees Vanguards. He leaves behind many fellow airline employee friends, retired and actively working. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all of you who came to visit 'Zach' and for your kind support.
