LOTTE STOVALL DETTMAR - On January 25, 2000, Lotte Dettmar was released from her earthbound existence to return to the side of her earlier departed husband. Lotte, age 87, passed away peacefully after a frustrating period of six to seven years of debilitating health related to her advanced age.
Both Lotte and Fred, her husband of nearly 50 years, were from Chicago where they met while working for the same newspaper. She was a graduate of the University of Chicago with a degree emphasizing journalism and dramatic arts. Their life together was enhanced by the common goals of informing their fellow citizens. From Chicago, they followed Fred's work to Ohio where he was public relations director for a major corporation.
Retirement brought them to Green Valley, a community just getting its roots down. As political enthusiasts (Republican), and sensing a near vacuum, they immediately threw their energies into organizing, and building what was to become a major Republican bastion. State-wide candidates, and Congressional candidates, sought early support here. Other retirees filled precinct committeeman spots, and voters were hustled to the polls in percentages not known in the rest of Arizona.
Fred passed away in 1987, and Lotte moved to Tucson to be near medical attention. This did not stem the flow of energies to inform others. She built a following of people to hear her verbal and dramatized book reports. At the time she suffered her disabling stroke, she was working on two additional reviews. The notes and script remained waiting on her desk – much to the disappointment of those who looked forward to her presentations.
Lotte had her Fred, and they had their life together. There were no offspring, and there are no known relatives. They had each other, and they are together again.
There will be no burial services. A Celebration of Lotte's life will be held at the SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 29th. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Or you may make a donation to your favorite Republican political committee, or Year 2000 candidate committee.

Sarah graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana with a Bachelors degree in education, specializing in speech therapy. She was an outstanding member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Beta Sigma Phi sororities.
She brought her family to Tucson in 1955. She was employed as an Accounting Supervisor at the Hughes Federal Credit Union and retired after 17 years.
Her retirement was spent being 'Nana' to her grandchildren, and just 'Sarah' to her many friends, especially those at the Tuesday Morning Desert Dove Ceramics Club.
