FOX, Frederick Samuel 'Sam', 43, died suddenly January 31, 2000. A resident of Tucson since 1981, Sam is survived by a daughter, Kristie Lyn Stewart of Maryland; his parents, Fred and Olive Fox, and a brother, Bill Fox of Tucson; a sister, Sandy Kelman of Maryland; and five nephews and a niece. Sam was an avid biker who had won several trophies for his bikes. He was a former chairman of the Tucson Chapter, Harley Owners Group, and had many close friends in the Sunriders Motorcycle Club. Sam was a software engineer and formerly worked in the voter registration division for Pima County. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 4 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Palms Funeral Home, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Friends and fellow riders are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 5 at 3:00 p.m. at the Christ Memorial Church, 6565 E. Broadway. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the CPS Childrens Fund, c/o Aviva, 2001 N. Campbell, Tucson, AZ 85719.

KENNETH HORTON - Born October 17, 1917, passed away February 1, 2000 at age 82. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of 59 years; son, Mark (Pat); grandchildren, Sean, Chris, Robin, Joel, D'Arci, Gayla, Darla, Kent and Laura; great-grandchildren, Alisar, Phillip, Samantha; sisters, Dorothy, Mary, Jo and extended family members. Predeceased by sons, Michael and Jonathan.
Kenneth was a long time resident of Tucson (1945) and owner of the family business, Horton Garage on Ajo Way. He was also a dedicated servant of his God Jehovah for over 40 years and assisted in helping one congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses to grow into over 30.
His ready smile and loving concern for everyone he knew will remain lasting memories for us all.
Memorial Service will be held at the 'Manzanita' Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2121 W. Canada St., Saturday, February 5th at 1:00 p.m., conducted by his longtime friend, Fred Barnes of Brooklyn, NY.

LACKEY, Lela, 85, passed away January 29, 2000 in Gainesville, FL. She is survived by one daughter, Polly Norton of Gainesville, FL; two sons, Bobby Norman and Jimmy Norman, both of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, four sisters, and one brother. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

LEMON, Margie Alberta (nee Fulton), resident of Tucson, AZ for 61 years, born November 27, 1905, died January 31, 2000 at the age of 94. She was a School Teacher at L.M. Prince Elementary School, Tucson, in a World War II barrack. She is survived by nieces, Mrs. Janis Lee Fulton Balaban of Danville, CA, Mrs. Carolyn Roberta Fulton Rutledge of Talent, OR; nephew, Mr. Robert Eugene Fulton, Jr. of Talent, OR: many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. Margie was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Eliza Belle Turnage Fulton of Tucson, AZ; beloved father, William 'Willie' John Fulton of Las Vegas, NV; beloved husband, Carroll Boyne Lemon of Tucson, AZ; brothers, Robert Fulton of Ashland, OR and Eugene Charles Fulton of El Centro, CA. Margie's honors included: Bachelor of Arts Degree, University of Arizona, May 31, 1939, Phi Kappa Phi, UofA, 2/57, Delta Kappa Gamma Society (Education), UofA 2/28/61, X1-AZ Honors Key, Pi Lamda Theta, 4/8/38 (Education), 4/30/92, Sigma Delta Pi. Her activities included: Order of Eastern Star (OES) Mariposa Chapter, #31, Tucson, AZ, Compassion International, Inc., Inter Faith Council Volunteer, St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Tucson, AZ. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, February 7, 2000, 1:00 p.m. at South Lawn cemetery, 5401 S. Park Ave., Tucson, AZ (294-2603). Donations may be made in memory of Margie to: St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1431 W. Magee Rd., Tucson, 85704. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. MILLER, Elsie H., 73, of Tucson, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2000. She is survived by sister, Georgia (Edward) Pastirik of Illinois; former husband, Joseph; daughters, Carol (Ken) Schachter, Nancy (Steve) Holt, Linda Nichols; four grandchildren, Christopher and Alice Holt and Barry and Debra Schachter, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. No services are planned. Interment will take place at South Lawn cemetery on Saturday, February 5, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

SLAGLE, Willie D., age 97, of Tucson, AZ, died Monday, January 31, 2000. She is survived by daughters, Cynthia S. Dawson and Elizabeth S. Groves and four grandchildren. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (@ Magee), on Sunday, February 6, 2000 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary service at 5:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Odilia Catholic Church on Monday, February 7, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Hope cemetery.

YOUNG-TATE, Charla Lorene, born March 13, 1960 in Albuquerque, NM, died January 10, 2000 in San Diego, CA. Survived by parents, Howard and Mary Lou Young of Tucson; brothers, Larry of Albuquerque, NM, and Steven (Darlene) of Jamul, CA; nieces, Sarah and Haily; nephew, Connor; husband, Sam Tate; stepson, Chris of Spring Valley, CA. Charla graduated from Canyon del Oro H.S., attended Pima Community College, was past Worthy Adviser Sunshine Assembly 31 Order of Rainbow Girls.
Charla was a courageous woman who fought a long battle with her health and accepted each day with a smile and a winning spirit.
A Celebration of Life was held January 14, 2000 in El Cajon, CA. Interment private.

DAVIS, Mary Doris, 79, of Tucson, died February 2, 2000. Born April 21, 1920 in Baltimore, MD. Survived by husband, James L. Davis, Sr. of Tucson; daughter, Carole Ann Davis of Norfolk, VA; sons, James L. Davis, Jr. of Tucson, William T. Davis of Oceanside, CA; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by son, Charles R. Davis. Friends may call Monday, 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY. Mass of the Resurrection will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., Most Holy Trinity Church, 1300 N. Greasewood Rd., with interment following in Evergreen cemetery, N. Oracle Rd. and W. Miracle Mile.

DOTZLER, Eileen R. 'Aunt Mickey' died peacefully February 1, 2000. Born October 8, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio. preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Julia Dotzler; sister, Helen Schultz and beloved nephew, Fritz. Survived by sisters, Julia Harmon, Cecelia Shonebarger (Joseph) of Tucson, Irene Wozniak and Marie Pratt; brother, Frederick (LaDonna) Dotzler, all of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2000 at South Lawn Mortuary, 5401 S. Park Ave., Evening Service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY. Burial will follow at South Lawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Catholic Church.

FRENCH, Alan William, 35, born March 9, 1964, died January 13, 2000 in La Jolla, CA, after valiantly fighting alveolar soft part sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, for four years.
Alan grew up in Tucson, where he excelled in sports, one of the joys of his life. He participated in the Youth Football League and went on to become a member of the Junior Varsity Football and the Varsity Soccer team (of which he was co-captain) at Canyon del Oro High School. He was also Salutatorian of his class.
Alan attended University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA on an academic scholarship, graduating Magna Cum Laude as a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/ Finance in 1986. He earned his Juris Doctor degree at Boston University School of Law, Boston, MA, where he graduated Cum Laude in 1989 and was an editor of the Annual Review of Banking Law (1988-1990).
In 1991, Alan married Amy Tudisco, his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life. They have three children, Rory (3), Aubriana (6) and Ryan (8), in whom he found his greatest delight and to whom he gave of his infinite love and wisdom. Alan started his career as an attorney with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton of San Diego, one of California's largest law offices, where he practiced three years before co-founding his own firm, Blanchard, Krasner & French, in La Jolla. His expertise in the fields of banking law, government regulation and real estate, combined with tireless efforts and high ethical standards, helped propel Blanchard, Krasner & French from a small start-up to one of La Jolla's most prominent law firms. He was a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, San Diego County Bar Association, the Community Associations Institute and The American Cancer Society, La Jolla Chapter.
His love of sports took on a whole new dimension for Alan when as a father he was able to coach his son Ryan in the 1999 La Jolla Youth Baseball spring season. This fall he also coached Ryan and the team through an undefeated season in the La Jolla Youth Soccer League. Alan's enthusiasm and dedication to the children in the midst of his own personal pain and struggle will forever be an inspiration to all those who shared in it. He will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, his strength, courage and exuberance for life, which he shared with all those he loved and who loved him.
Alan is survived by his grandmother, Elizabeth French of Ann Arbor, MI; his grandparents, J. David Stratton, M.D. and Hila Stratton of Charlotte, NC: his mother, Anne Stratton Hilts and stepfather, Schuyler Hilts, M.D. of Tucson; his uncles, Robert Stratton, M.D. of Erie, PA and James Stratton, M.D. of Sacramento, CA; his aunts, Alice Wellford of Richmond, VA and Gail Hubbard of Ann Arbor, MI; his wife, Amy French and his children, Rory, Aubriana and Ryan French. Donations in lieu of flowers.
A small, informal Memorial Service will be held on February 13th, 3:00 p.m. at Tohono Chul Park Demonstration Gardens.

Richard Lee Gordon 'PAPA', 63, went to be with his Lord on February 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 39 1/2 years, Billie F. Gordon; children, Daniel (Diane) Gordon, Diana (Jeff) Mercer, Debbie (Erik) Johnson; grandchildren, Danielle, Paul, Michaela, Kyle, Erika, Cole, and Madison; sisters, Doris Klimp and Lucinda Boez, both of Michigan; brothers, Rodger Gordon of Michigan and William Gordon of California; several nieces and nephews. Richard worked for Magma/BHP Copper in San Manuel, AZ for 36 years before retiring. He also served in the United States Air Force. 'Papa' was a hard worker and enjoyed the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. in EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Road. A visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Local Pima County Humane Society.

JEFFREY, Raymond Vincent, age 95, died Thursday, February 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Jean Jeffrey of Tucson; son, Richard V. Jeffrey of Phoenix; daughter, Jean (Don) Gietzen of Tucson; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Jeffrey was predeceased by son, Thomas Jeffrey who died in 1996 and by grandson, Thomas Stephen who died in 1993. He had received a Doctorate of Law Degree from the University of North Dakota in 1930, and had also received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Commerce. A Certified Industrial Developer, Mr. Jeffrey had served as Director of Industrial Development for the State of Missouri for many years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 2532, Knights of Columbus Council No. 6848, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Msgr. Weber Assembly. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2000 at St. Francis De Sales Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, in charge of arrangements.

JOE, Oscar L., age 86, of Tucson, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at Tucson Medical Center. He was a WWII veteran, received an Honorable Discharge in 1945 and relocated to Tucson in 1947. Mr. Joe worked at the University of Arizona for over 30 years until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Joe was a long and faithful member of Phillips Chapel CME Church.
He is survived by his wife, Cuba Joe; daughter, Dorothy Strickland of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter, Rachel D. Young of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, J.W. Joe of Palestine, TX and John E. Joe of Tucson; sisters, Hannah Lynch and Sylvia Heard of Little Rock, AR, Callie Wattley and Loraine Norwood of Tucson.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 6 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. Funeral will be Monday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Chapel CME Church, 122 W. 4th Street, Rev. Brian Reese officiating. Interment will be at South Lawn cemetery.

KEPPEL, Marton 'Marty' P., died February 3, 2000. He was born in Passic, New Jersey, March 1, 1948. His father Peter preceded him in death. Marty is survived by his wife, Karen; mother, Edna of Phoenix; brother, Ralph (Samsong) of Phoenix; sisters, Edna (Herbert) Fehling of Hereford, AZ, and Maryann (James) Turney of Tucson; stepsons, Michael (Shaun) Dolgner of Tucson and Everett (Megan) Dolgner of Atlanta, GA; and seven grandchildren.
Marty loved children and devoted his life to them, being a school bus driver for Tucson Unified School District for the past nine years and a Boy Scout Leader.
Marty's passion for scouting began as a young boy receiving the highest rank of Eagle Scout and continuing as a leader earning the Award of Merit.
A Memorial will be held at Parker Canyon Lake, Sunday, February 6, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.

LAWSON, Rhea, 81, went to be with her Lord on January 29, 2000. She was born February 20, 1918 in Paynes Mills, Ontario, Canada. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. preceded in death by her husbands, James McCloy of Canada and Edward Lawson of Tucson. She is survived by stepson, Lee (Connie) Lawson; sister, Lena McQuiggen and brother, Thomas Blackman, both of Canada. Burial will be in Canada, Saturday, February 5th. Memorial donations may be sent to Alliance Bible Church, 1301 W. Wetmore Rd., 85705. A Memorial Service will be with the Sunday Morning Service, February 6th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Bible Church.

SCHIEFFER, Louise Dubyk, age 83, passed away Saturday January 15, 2000. preceded in death by her husband Peter Jr.. Survived by sister Ann; sons, Peter III, Frederick, and John; grandsons, Mathew and Jonathon; granddaughters Susan and Sharon; great-granddaughters Allison and Caroline. Louise was born in Passaic, New Jersey on July 15, 1916. Louise had many hard years growing up with her sister Ann, but later in life she made raising her three sons her main goal in life. Louise lived many years in New York, moving to Tucson in 1970. Louise was laid to rest January 22, 2000, next to her mother Cornelia in Clifton, New Jersey. I, her youngest son, hope a wonderful mother has finally found the peace and tranquility she has so long deserved.

SMITH, Guy A., Jr., 72 years old, died February 3, 2000 in Tucson. Born on March 25, 1927 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Survived by his wife, Jean Smith of Tucson; two sons, Glen (Traci) Smith of Niles, MI, Tom (Julie) Smith of Wauwatosa, WI; daughter, Pamela (Brian) Hock of Perrysburg, Ohio; sister, Sylvia Ley of Medina, Ohio; five grandchildren. Memorial Services for Mr. Smith will be held Monday, February 7, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway. Arrangements handled by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 881-0338.
