RICHARD DUVALL WELCH, age 64, a native of Tucson, was born November 10, 1935 and passed away February 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Love; daughters, Linda (Bob) Schmid and Deborah Kiefer; sisters, Betty Gibson, Sue Bond, and Barbara Ormand, all of Tucson; brother, Charles Welch of Hermosa Beach, California; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Louise Hercsuth. Richard was a local electrician who retired after 42 years as a member of Local 570 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Richard was a great outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A special 'Thank You' to all the nurses at Northwest Hospital. WILLIAM ANDREW BATES, 87, of Tucson, died February 4, 2000. Born June 5, 1912 in Missoula, MT. He was a graduate of Michigan College of Mining and Technology, where he earned a B.S. and M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. Most of his professional career was spent with the Anaconda Co. in Chile, where he met and married
Ruth Bown Shearer, a native of Chile. At the time of his retirement, he was General Plant Superintendent of the Andes Copper Mining Co. After retirement, he worked as a consultant in Chile, the Philippines, and Iran. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; son, Charles Bates of Steamboat Springs, CO; daughter, Lorna Pashovich of Westerville, OH; grandchildren, Ted and Kristina Pashovich of Westerville, OH; sister, Betty Sergent of Merritt Island, FL. JOHN 'JACK' KIDNEY BURNS, USAF, Retired, 1LT, died on February 4, 2000 at age 81. He worked for over 40 years as an Asbestos Worker and Union Business Agent for the Asbestos Workers Local #73.
Jack was a navigator for the 70th Bomb Squadron (M), flying B-26 bombers in WWII in the Pacific Islands.
He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his son, John Patrick Burns; and is survived by his children, Rick (Kathy), Mac (Yoshiko), Steve (Laura), Tim (Connie), and Mary; his grandchildren, Kambi, Mike, Janice, Timothy, Christian, Kenichi, Laura, Sarah, Tim, Patrick; and great-grandchildren, Ricky, Kyle, Brianna, Kelly, Ashley, and Mike.
Our Dad was a wonderful, kind, loving, generous person who always put others first. We will miss him dearly and know that he has now joined his son, John Patrick; his brother, Gene; and his mother and father in Heaven. We are happy he is in peace. We love you, Dad.
A Mass at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, where he was a parishioner since the church opened in 1958, will be held on February 8, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Jack will be buried at Fort Rosencrans National cemetery, Point Loma, CA.

FUNK, Margaret M., 95, of Tucson, entered eternal life on February 1, 2000. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee and youngest son, Deane. She is survived by her sons, Duane (Joyce), Dale (Susan); 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, Shirley Jeanne Funk, Sallie Cominsky, Shirley Annette Funk; many nephews, nieces, their children and many friends. She will be remembered for her love for others, her love of life and her love of gardening. She was born in Oelwein, Iowa, moved to Tripp County, South Dakota with her parents to homestead land there. In 1945 she moved to Tucson, AZ. MARY PACHECO, 82, of Tucson, passed away February 4, 2000. Survived by daughters, Bobbie (William) Damron, Marcella (Bill) Mondotte; son, Richard Pacheco; sister, Aida Fernandez; cousin, Evelyn P. Rix. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary was a fifteenth generation Tucsonan. Mary's grandfather was Nabor Pacheco, one of the last Territorial Sheriffs of Pima County. Her father, Ricardo Pacheco, was a pioneer cattle rancher locally.

SOLEDAD (CHOLE) BARRERA VERGARA - Soledad (Chole) Barrera Vergara, 80, went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 5, 2000. She was born October 13, 1919 in Superior, Arizona.
She is survived by sons, Frank (Helen) Felix, Oscar (Gloria) Felix, Arturo (Alice) Felix, Alfredo (Angie) Felix, Richard Vergara, Rudy (Sally) Vergara, Robert Vergara, Jerry (Consuelo) Felix, George Felix, Tommy Felix, Cornelio Felix, and Richard (Virginia) Vergara.
Daughters, Olga Delgadillo, Irene (Alfredo) Cota, Josefina (Richard) Flores, Carmen Vergara and Paul Benway, and Connie (Eddie) Botelo. One brother, Arnold Barrera. Also 50 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodolfo; her father, Camillo Barrera; her mother, Josefa Bravo Barrera; son-in-law, Frank Delgadillo; brother, Ramon Barrera.
Visitation will be held at MARTINEZ FUNERAL CHAPELS, on Monday, February 7, 2000 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A Rosary will also be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Catholic Church. Burial will follow Holy Hope cemetery.

Shirley Jean Abramo, 71, passed away on February 3, 2000. Her birthplace and formative years were spent in Glenwood Springs, CO. Shirley married
John A. Abramo, from Grand Junction, Colorado, in 1951. He survives and continues to reside in Tucson, Arizona.
Also surviving are seven children; Dawn Ann, Cynthia Jane, Marisa Kathleen (Hiroshi), Linda Sue, John Paul, Guy Patrick (Anne), and Louis Michael. Six grandchildren also, and one great-grandchild.

BJORN, Kathryn 'Kay or Katie' M., (nee Pettersen), returned home to God February 6, 2000. Born on May 29, 1918 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kathryn was the 7th child of Capt. John Oscar and Maria Jose 'Amelia' Pettersen. As a small child her family moved to Seattle, WA, where she was raised. preceded in death by her husband, H.S. Bjorn, Kay is survived by son, John M. 'Skip' of Florida; daughter, Kerry (Bob) Barber of Tucson; grandchildren Raandi, Perryn, Brian, Michael and Andrea; great granddaughters Melodie and McKenna, sister Marguerite Dare, Seattle, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.
A talented artist, Kay 'retired' to Tucson with her husband in 1970 and immediately began a love affair with the surrounding mountains. She watched them, breathed them, painted them and never tired of them. The Santa Catalinas have lost an ardent fan.
The family would like to thank family and friends for their wonderful support and most especially mom's dear friend Lillian Pacheco, her doctors, Manor Care Health Services and Carondelet Hospice Service. Your care and attention brought peace to her final days. Thank you.
