Beloved wife of the late Owen Francis; devoted mother of William Nugent and Judy Raetzman; cherished grandmother of Garrett Raetzman. In 1947, following her husband's death, Mrs. Nugent assumed ownership of THE SHANTY and has presided over the business until the time of her death. She moved to Tucson when she was eighteen years old in pursuit of attending St. Mary's School of Nursing but fate led her elsewhere. Mrs. Nugent became very active in her community: she participated in the Bond Drive during WWII, served on the board of Pima Co. Mental Health, and was a member of the auxiliary for Tucson Medical Center and University Medical Center. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Az. Licensed Beverage Assoc. and volunteered at Casa de los Ninos for many years. In 1996 Donna Nugent was honored by the Downtown Business Assoc. as the Pioneer Business Person of the Year.
Over the years Mrs. Nugent touched the lives of many people and will be fondly remembered by all. In spite of her hectic schedule, Mrs. Nugent's main devotion was to her family; her love will remain in their hearts and minds forever, until we're together again.
