COOK, James F., Jr., 52, died at University Medical Center February 28, 2000 as the result of an infection subsequent to his 1996 double lung transplant. Born at Baltimore, MD, August 14, 1947, he graduated from Rincon High School and the University of Arizona. In 1965 Jim led the only Rincon High School Mens Basketball team to ever win the State Championship. He served with the US Army 1st Calvary Unit in Viet Nam. Jim worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 23 years. Mr. Cook is survived by his sister, Susan Cook Carlson and her husband Greg; son, James F. Cook III; daughter, Chelsea Renae Cook; and nephews, David J. and Jordan R. McKee. MANSHARDT, Betty S., died March 3, 2000. Born Feb. 6, 1910 in Bippus, IN., eighth of nine children in a large farm family. Graduated from North Central College, Naperville, IL., public school teacher in Wisconsin and instructor at Purdue Univ. in W. Lafayette, IN. Loving wife of Donald O. Manshardt, M.D., who preceded her in death (1987). Extraordinary woman, lifelong student and teacher by example, care provider for friends in need and active participant in St. Philips Episcopal Church. She will be missed by her many friends and adoring family, including son, James and granddaughter, Michelle in Tucson, and son, Richard (Beth) and grandsons, Robert and David in Honolulu. STAGGS, John Charles, 84, passed on in response to God's call on March 2, 2000. Born in Live Oak, Texas to Vivian and Charley Staggs, May 24, 1915, the oldest of ten children. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Eleanor Mary Staggs of Green Valley; his son, John W. Staggs; stepson, Marc Wesley Sexton; brothers, Murrell G. (Anna Lu) Staggs, William C. (Eleanor Jean) Staggs, Clifton A. (Dorothy) Staggs; sisters, Ollie May Cooper, Nellie May (Francis) Blakeney and Bessie L. (Eddie) Gallart; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. John lived in Miami, Kearney, Hayden, Mammoth and Tiger. He was a welder. He drilled, with his own rig, core samples for New Mont Mining Company, which eventually became Magma Mining Co. in San Manuel where he became master mechanic in the smelter until retirement in 1975. He enjoyed, with his wife, fishing, hunting and trailering as hobbies and their home at 1028 3rd avenue in San Manuel. 'Ours was a beautiful life; God blessed us greatly; Thank you, Lord.' HALL, Charlotte Elizabeth, 77, died peacefully on March 2, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Stanley E. Hall, USAF retired, of Tucson; and his two children, Pamela Marie Kidder, of Sacramento, California; and John Scott Hall of Tucson.
Charlotte was the daughter of Thomas Nathaniel Turner and Isabelle Jackson Turner. They met and were married
in Tucson when he was a patient at the Veterans Hospital and she was an Army nurse. Charlotte was born in McComb, Mississippi but returned to Tucson after each crisis in her life.
Charlotte's living relatives include nephews, Thomas Turner and Stephen Turner, of Wagoneer, OK., and Dale, James and David Turner of CA.
Mrs. Hall was last employed as chief of medical records at Tucson General Hospital and worked for several hospitals and physicians in Tucson and Los Angeles. While living in Johannesburg and Phalaborwa, South Africa, she developed a love for area wildlife and frequently visited Kruger National and other game preserves. In Phalaborwa she started the first Humane Society and was active in other civic work.
Charlotte was an avid reader. During a homebound teenage illness she read and studied the Harvard Classics and many other great books. She also studied at Pasadena Junior College and UCLA, but she considered USC her alma mater.
When Charlotte and Stan were married
in Tucson in 1984, they moved to Prescott Valley. There she was a member of the Lady Elks and the Lioness Clubs. Returning to Tucson for her health reasons they have been living at 6351 River Road.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at St. Thomas the Apostle Chapel, 5150 N. Valley View Rd. A wake will follow at the family home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Tucson Humane Society. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.
HILL, Dorothy E., 'Betsy', 78, passed away in the loving arms of her family, March 3, 2000. preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Mary Louise Flood; and brother, Roger Flood. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Betsy came to Tucson in 1956 with her husband and daughter. Beloved wife of 55 years to Clarence, mother to Linda, and grandmother to Sean. We ask those who knew her not to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her release from the pain of this life into the peace and joy of the next. We love and miss you Mom.

HELEN F. MANCIET died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, as a result of complications following surgery in California. She was 65 years of age. Helen was a native of Tucson, where she lived for 20 years and attended the Immaculate Heart Academy. She is survived in Arizona by her brother, Ygnacio Florez and numerous nephews and nieces. For the past 30 years Helen lived in Southern California with her husband Robert Manciet and her children Robert (deceased), Ron, Jack and Steven. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Ana Marie Manciet, and two grandsons, Kirin and Riley Manciet. She completed the Los Angeles Marathon in 1998, at the age of 63. The accomplishments that provided herthe greatest source of joy were those of her husband and sons; her greatest gifts were the love and kindness she gave others without reservation.
