NORDSTROM, Iva Mae, R.N. (Retired), our Mother, passed away on March 22, 2000. She was born Iva Mae Kellison, April 29, 1907 in Bird City, KS. Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ida Kellison; her husband, Clyde; brother, Harvey and her sisters, Billie Modrow and Vinca Patterson. She is survived by her daughters, Vanice Keuscher and Delis Coker, both of Salem, OR, and Sandra (J.L. 'Buz') Busboom of Tucson; grandchildren, Michael Comstock of Spokane, WA, Gary Coker, Renee' Coker of Salem, OR, Cathy Coker of Randall, WA, and Karen (Kerry) Varcoe of Gresham, OR; six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, Wilma Kellison in Missouri. Mom took her nurses training in Scottsbluff, NE where, after graduating, she practiced her profession until moving to Portland, OR in 1943. She continued nursing in Portland and in Salem, OR until her retirement in 1972. In 1980 she moved to Oroville, CA. In 1990 she relocated to Tucson, AZ, and has lived here since. We will miss our Mother very much but take solace in that she will be in a much better place and will be pain free once again. Arrangements are being handled by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, in Tucson and by Howell-Edwards Funeral Home in Salem, OR. She will be laid to rest in Restlawn Memory Gardens and Mausoleum, Salem, OR.

CARMEN M. PALACIOS, 71, of Tucson, AZ, passed away March 19, 2000. She is survived by her beloved husband, Antonio R. Palacios; children, Sylvia (George) Canez, Antonio (Marion) Palacios, Francisco (fiancee, Judy) Palacios, Carmen (Brad) Martin; grandchildren, Veronica, Robert (Laura), Joseph, Michael, Jennifer, Eduardo, Cindy (Joe), Tony (Boo); great-grandchildren, Christina, Robert Elliott, Zachary and Tyler. She will be greatly missed by her family and beloved Chihuahuas, Gordy and Pesque. The family gratefully acknowledges the love and support received from family, friends, Carondelet Hospice staff and Gambro Dialysis Center, Ajo & 16th. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25th at Pantano Christian Church, 10355 E. 29th, with Pastor of Outreach, Kurt Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Hope cemetery. Friends may attend visitation at ARIZONA MORTUARY UNIVERSITY CHAPEL, on Friday, March 24, between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. Remembrance may be made to La Frontera Center Child Family Center, 502 W. 29th St., Tucson 85713. SOULAGES, Brett Lane, a native of Tucson, born January 7, 1971, died March 21, 2000. He graduated from Bisbee High School in 1989 and attended the University of Arizona, where he was also employed as assistant manager of the Engineering Experiment Station copy center. Brett was a loving husband, son, and brother. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. He was a courageous and compassionate person who loved people, animals, and nature. He was fascinated by the world and its various cultures, and he sought an understanding of life from many different perspectives through the arts and humanities and through travel. Survived by loving wife, Laurel Johnstone; parents, Walt and Cardi Soulages and Jean and Roger Slagel; brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Terra Soulages; grandmother, Dorothy Slagel; step-sisters, Kelley Schultz and Kimberly Tovani and their families; parents-in-law, Miles and Lois Johnstone; and many other caring friends and family members. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2000. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Brett's name may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Rd., Suite 146, Des Plaines, IL 60018.

GLENN E. SPURGEON, 73, of Tucson, AZ, died on March 23, 2000. Glenn was born to Ralph and Gertrude (Garst) Spurgeon on November 13, 1926 in Hamilton County, IN. He was the youngest of three boys. He lived in Indiana for 25 years and graduated from Jackson Central (Hamilton High) in 1944. He served in the US Army from May of 1944 to October of 1945. He moved to Louisville, KY.
In 1959 he married Beverly Harlacher. To this marriage four children were born: Kathleen Sue, Michael David, Karen Ann, and Carol Jane. He also had two children from a previous marriage, Stevon Eugene and Charles Williams.
He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Louis B. Nunn in 1968. In 1978 Glenn and Beverly and their children moved to Tucson, AZ, where they became members of Saguaro Christian Church.
Glenn has always made friends quite easily wherever he would go. He was a frequent visitor of the Armory Park Senior Center. He was quick to help those in need. He would take friends to their doctor appointments and shopping when they had no other transportation. He enjoyed 'fishing', dancing, outdoor music, concerts and joking around with others.
Glenn is survived by his wife Beverly and children, Steve of Santa Monica, CA, Phil of Durham, NC, Kitty and husband David Watkins of Edgewood, NM, Mike and wife Karla of Clovis, NM, Karen and husband Ray Zion of Leon, IA, Carol and husband LaMonte Brown of Tucson, AZ; nine grandchildren, four step grandchildren, his father-in-law, and extended family who mostly reside in Tucson, AZ and the states of Illinois and Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and both brothers, his mother-in-law and a sister-in-law.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 25 at Saguaro Christian at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Deborah Morgan officiating.
Donations may be made to one of Glenn's favorite charities: The American Cancer Society, The Arthritis Foundation, The Diabetes Foundation, Make-a-Wish Foundation, or the charity of your choice. Glenn will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His final resting place will be East Lawn cemetery.

STEWART, Jessie Lee Dorman, born August 11, 1942 in Vinton, LA, passed away March 20, 2000. Jessie attended high school in San Manuel, AZ, Class of '62. She is preceded in death by mother, Nancy E. Shepherd Dorman of TN and father, Ervin L. Dorman of AR. Jessie is survived by husband of 35 years, Dan Stewart; two children, Danny and Rusty of Columbia, TN; one grandchild, Cody Stewart of Columbia, TN; brothers, Bill Dorman and Ervin Dorman, both of TX; sisters, Dovie Hough of LA and Norma Slack of LA, Wanda Vickers of GA, Carmal Ellison of TX, Peggy Burger of Tucson and Nancy Smith of Mesa, AZ. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25th at Arivaca Stewart Ranch on Ruby Road.

MARY ELIZABETH STROEHLEIN - Born March 18, 1925 in Hoquiam, Washington, left us on March 20, 2000 at the age of 75. Mary was born to one of the pioneer families of the Olympic Peninsula. The daughter of Grace M. Delaney and Francis S. Delaney, she spent her school years in Washington graduating from Hoquiam High School and attended Central Washington College of Education in Ellensburg, Washington. There she met her husband, Raymond E. Stroehlein who was also on that campus attending Flight School for the United States Air Force. When WWII was over, Mary and Ray married . In 1957, Mary and Ray took their family to Tucson, Arizona. Since that time Mary attended to the needs of her family, friends, and her many animals. When her children were older, she became a teacher aide in the Sunnyside School District. She then continued as a school secretary in that district working at Valencia, Liberty, and Mission Manor elementary schools. She retired from the Sunnyside School District in 1987. Mary is survived by her loving husband and caregiver, Raymond E. Stroehlein, and her children, Linda S. Head, Sandra L. Madsen, Pamela A. Stroehlein, Debra S. Wilson, Richard C. (Maria) Stroehlein, and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Frank Delaney; her brother, Bob Delaney; and her son, Charles F. Lewis.
Funeral Services will be held for Mary Elizabeth Stroehlein on Friday, March 24, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave. Interment will follow immediately. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

WELLS, Hoyt R., 78, of Tucson, went to be with the Lord in the presence of his family on March 21, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Anna Vee Wells; his daughters, Christie (Brad) Hunt, Lorrie (Angel) Altaranirano, and Brenda Wells, all of Tucson; his sons, Keith (Shelly) Wells of Fresno, CA, Gary Wells of Phoenix, Tim (Sandy) Wells of Arvada, CO, Cordale (Jennifer) Wells of Nightdale, NC, Johnny (Lynette) Wells, Clint (Mindy) Wells, all of Tucson; and fifteen grandchildren. Mr. Wells was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Chapel Service, Saturday, 11:00 a.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Interment, Evergreen cemetery. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY, cemetery & CREMATORY.

ZWERK, Glenn J., passed away on March 21, 2000 at 77 years of age. A long time resident of Tucson, he retired from the Air Force in 1963 after 20 years of military service. He then worked as a civilian at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, retiring from AMARC in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Randy Zwerk and Steve Zwerk and stepdaughter, Christie Jackson. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Cheryl Kemper, Bradley Yant, Jessica Duncan, Erik Zwerk and Megan Zwerk, and one great-granddaughter, Emilee Kemper. Mr. Zwerk's wishes were to be cremated and no services are planned.

BARREDA, Robert, 61, a native of Arizona and a resident of New Mexico for the last 14 years was called home by his Lord on March 21st, 2000. Mr. Barreda was a Tucson Police Officer and a boxer (winner of the Golden Gloves). He is survived by his wife, Jane; his daughter, Juli-Anne; his daughter, Sharon Moore, her husband, Gary Moore; his grandchildren, Morgan and Toby Moore. Mr. Barreda is also survived by his children from a previous marriage, Raima, Rodrick, Roxanne, Rene and Ryan. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Barreda's final resting place will be in Vail, AZ next to his parents and siblings. Any correspondence can by directed to the Barreda family at P.O. Box 45376, Rio Rancho, NM, 87174.

DIAZ, Maria Alicia, 47, of El Paso, Texas, died Thursday, March 23, 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Manuela Diaz. She is survived by brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A visitation will be held at HEATHER MORTUARY CHAPEL, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd., on Sunday, March 26, 2000 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Burial will be at Monte Calvario cemetery.

KENNEDY, Irene E., 89, died March 15, 2000. Mother of Bev (Henry) Luedke, Floyd (Alice) Kennedy, Frank A. (Lana) Kennedy and Roger N. Kennedy all of Tucson; grandmother of 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 20, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Rev. Howard Higgins officiating. Burial will follow at TMP South Lawn. Donations in Irene's memory may be made to Southern AZ Humane Society, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., T/A 85716.

Hank (Henry J.) Saunders - Mr. Saunders, age 70, died March 18, 2000 in Tucson, AZ at the VA Medical Center. Born April 7, 1929 in Baltimore, MD, he is survived by two sisters, Jane and Julia; son, Hank, and daughter, Candace; five grandchildren and best friend, Renette. He was an avid member of the NRA and a member of the DAV Ch. 28. Hank was a staunch union member at newspapers across the country. He graduated from the Univ. of Ariz. in 1983 with a degree in Communications. Subsequently he worked as a wildlife photographer, desert guide and interpreter. BARAL, Mary Francis, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on March 24, 2000 at the age of 88. She is survived by her two children, David Baral (Susan) and Evelyn Delgado (Fred); and three grandchildren, Brian Delgado (Helen), Erica Delgado, and Jocelyn Baral (Michael); and a great-grandson, Austin. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Baral in 1986.
Mary Francis, a devout Baha'i since her declaration in 1936, spent 45 years serving the blind as a Library of Congress certified Braille transcriber. Up until her final illness, she continued to read a newsletter on tape for the many blind Baha'is around the country. She lived her life according to her firm belief that 'The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.'
In addition to her Baha'i service, she had a broad interest in and appreciation of the arts. As a young woman, she attended the Chicago Art Institute.
Mary Francis will be deeply missed by her personal family and her Baha'i family and the many people whose lives she touched through her life of service.
The funeral will be held at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd (corner of Dodge and Speedway) Tuesday, March 28, promptly at 1:30 p.m.

BENNETT, Charles M., 52, died March 20, 2000. ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, (888-1111)

DAILEY, Jack A., 74, born March 14, 1926, was a native Tucsonan. After several months of struggle with colon and liver cancer, he passed away on March 24, 2000. Jack worked for many years in California for Gulf Atomic Research and Convair. He moved back to Tucson in 1972 where he worked for 12 years at Anamax Inc and approximately three years part/time for North West Life Insurance Company. Jack, along with his loving wife of nearly 28 years, Irene T. Dailey, did extensive traveling throughout the United States.
During the last four years, some of Jack's most treasured times and memories were being involved in the lives of his son, Thomas Dailey, daughter-in-law, Laura, and grandson, Isaac; his daughter, Becky Dailey, and granddaughters, Brooke and Marissa; also his son, Lynn Spoon, daughter-in-law, Kathy, and granddaughters, Heather, Jodie and Amanda–all of whom he loved dearly. Other relatives in close contact with Jack were Francis Beasley of Tucson; Dorothy and Deloris Dailey of California; and Helen Lancaster of Florida; mother-in-law, Maxine Trollinger of North Carolina; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Fred May of North Carolina. Jack also affectionately loved his and Irene's little 11 year old poodle, April.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. at South Lawn cemetery, 5401 S. Park Ave., Tucson, Arizona. the family request, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the American Cancer Society (Colon and Liver Cancer Research), 1636 N. Swan, Tucson, Arizona 85712.
