WILLIAM E. RICHARDSON - Age 84, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2000. Currently a resident of Chandler, AZ, Bill lived in Tucson from 1952 to 1996. From 1952 to 1978, he was a music educator in Tucson, teaching at John Spring Jr. High, Pueblo and Palo Verde high schools, and continuing to substitute teach after retirement, including one year as Associate Band Director at the University of Arizona. Bill's many recognitions include AMEA Music Educator of the Year 1977; the Arizona Music Education association created the William E. Richardson Retired Service Award in 1992.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances; he is survived by his children, Mary Jo 'Jody' Elmer (Ferroll), Sally Rosen (Mike), Bill, Jr. (Karen), Chris (Kathi), Paul (Mary); seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and his wife, Louise Llewellyn Richardson, all of Arizona.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2000 at EAST LAWN MORTUARY. Visitation at the mortuary will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2000. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Phoenix Symphony Youth Guild Student Scholarship fund or to your favorite charity is suggested.

JOANNE SPOOR STONNELL, 82, of Tucson, Arizona. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1917. She was editor of American Astrology Magazine for 31 years and was the published author of two volumes of inspirational essays – 'A Way Out From In', Volumes I & II. She also wrote many children's stories and a mystery novel, yet unpublished. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Stonnell and her son, Douglas Friel. She passed on from this life on April 8, 2000 – she went peacefully in her sleep surrounded by the love of family and friends. Beloved and survived by her friend and loving companion, Virgil Motsinger of Tucson, AZ; and children, Roger Clancy, Rona Clancy (M.S. Harlingen) and stepdaughter, Mrs. Virginia Reymer and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Valerie Friel, all of Tucson, AZ. She was also beloved by her nieces and nephews, Mrs. Carole Barcia and her husband, Joseph of London, England, Mrs. Patricia Groat and her husband, Peter of Tucson, AZ, Mr. Brian Spoor and his wife, Amy of Tucson, AZ, and Mrs. Carolyn Spoor of Tucson, AZ; and also by her grandchildren, Lindsy Friel of Tucson, AZ, Lisa Friel of Tucson, AZ, Deborah Lemon of Phoenix, AZ, Mrs. Carolyn Setzer of McCammon, Idaho, Mrs. Patricia Mink and her husband, Daniel of Crownsville, Maryland, Mrs. Susan Taylor and her husband, Bill of Orlando, Florida, Mr. Laurence Steinat and his wife, Julie of Elizabethton, Tennessee, Mr. Robert Steinat and his wife, Rose of Crownsville, Maryland; and many great-grandchildren. Also dear friends, Mrs. Judith Hanson and her husband, Douglas of Jamul, California, Mr. Richard Hammel and his wife, Amy of Tucson, AZ, Mrs. Mary Arellano and her husband, Raul of Tucson, AZ, and Mrs. Magdelena Gilmore of Corona de Tucson. She made a stunning difference in so many lives. Memorial Services will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

VALDEZ, Eugene B. 'Chubby' 71, of Tucson, passed away April 8, 2000. Survived by wife, Julia Q. Valdez; daughters, Gina Valdez, Joanne Alvarez and Elizabeth Alvarez; sons, George (Cathy), Donald (Lori), Richard (Liz), and Roy Alvarez; brothers, Fernando (Fina), Carlos (Frances), Manny (Virginia), and Abe (Sandy) Valdez; also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Eugene served in the Navy from 1947 to 1950 and the Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He retired from Civil Service in 1966.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2000 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, South Chapel, 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Wednesday, April 12, 2000, 10:30 a.m. at St. Monica's Church. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. VILLA, Cesar Antonio, 21, passed away on April 8, 2000. He is survived by his parents, Norlberto and Ana Villa; two brothers, Francisco and Gabriel Villa; two sisters, Christina and Lorena Villa; grandparents, Francisco and Rita Miranda; grandfather, Francisco Villa and grandmother, Ambrosia Quevedo; one niece, Janessa; numerous aunts and uncles and many other loving family members and friends. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Rosary at 7:00 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, April 12, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of All Saints. Interment to follow at South Lawn cemetery.

WOODS, Raymond J., 72, of Manmouth, died graciously and at home of colon cancer on April 6, 2000. In his last weeks he was visited and cared for by many friends and family members who paid him the tribute of coming from Arizona, New Jersey and Utah to show their love and concern. All his life he spoke out against injustice and racism, and stood up for the rights of the oppressed.
Born and raised in New Jersey/New York, Ray apprenticed himself to two professional horsemen in New York City. As a teenager, he taught riding in Central Park, drove teams, worked summers with trotting horses, and handled horses and other animals on stage at the Metropolitan Opera and Radio City Music Hall. All of his life he was a horseman, teaching riding, training colts with gentle methods, and riding for pleasure. Although he ended his years in Oregon, his heart remained in the desert country of Southern Arizona.
To provide for his family, Ray worked as a union printing pressman, both in New Jersey and in Tucson, Arizona, where he was President of the local International Printing and Graphic Communications Union for many years. In Oregon he worked for his brother doing diaster restoration until retiring at the age of sixty-two.
He loved visiting family in Arizona and Utah. Park City was a favorite destination, where he would walk down Main Street every morning for coffee and a cheese danish at the Morning Ray Cafe. In better days, he liked a cold beer and a good cigar. His dog, Dish, was his almost constant companion.
Ray is survived by his wife, Rae; sons, Gerard of Portland, Oregon and Paul of Park City, Utah; daughter, Janet Gibson of Heber, Arizona; brothers, Edward of Florence, Oregon and Gerard of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Marjorie Ann Cantwell of Bloomfield, New Jersey, Rosa Garcia of Nogales, Arizona, who has been part of our family for over 30 years; and by six grandchildren.
At his request, no services will be held. Cremation arrangements by Restlawn of Salem. Contributions: The Humane Society of the Willamette Valley or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah, 84741.

LAWRENCE P. ADAMS SR. - Age 75, born November 19, 1924 in Cochise, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home, April 9, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou; four daughters, Ada Marie (Buck Crouch), Peggy, Linda (Norm Kangas), Carolyn (Ernie Alvarez); two sons, Lawrence Jr. (Larry), Kenneth (Wanda); 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley (Kay) and Burton. preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon. A Brickmason from 1947 until his retirement in 1987, Lawrence loved camping, hunting, square dancing and spending time with his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2000 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. today at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY. Burial at South Lawn cemetery. Pastor Mark Harris, of Oasis Church officiating. BALLESTEROS, Socorro Ramirez, born January 10, 1926, died April 10, 2000. Married 43 years to Ignacio Ballesteros. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. Survived by her nine children, Ignacio Jr., Terry, Margaret, Louis, Benny, Rosie, Peter, Melva and Gina; mother, Emilia Vargas and her Vargas brothers and sisters; 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Socorro was a devoted mother who enjoyed her art and music. She always had a story to tell or a joke to share. She worked tirelessly to put her children through Catholic school and she was a member of the Legion of Mary. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2000 at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 14th at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, 801 N. Grande. Burial in Holy Hope cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott. Novena held beginning April 17th at 6:00 p.m. at 1332 W. Hualapai Rd.

BENTLEY, Daryl Burt, 78, passed away Saturday, April 8th, 2000. Survived by his wife, Alice; six children, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at St. James United Methodist Church, 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 14th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. James Memorial Fund or the Kidney Foundation. HOEY, Yvonne E., 93, of Tucson, went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 10, 2000. She is survived by her two sons, John B. (Judith) Hoey and Robert A. (Linda) Hoey; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., on Thursday, April 13, 2000 at 7:00 p.m.

HUNTER, Everline, 93 years old, of Tucson, passed away April 09, 2000. Survived by husband, Rev. Charlie Hunter of Tucson; sons, Leroy Sr., Nathaniel, Charlie W., Alfred, and Johnell, all of Tucson and George W. of Washington. There was one son, L.B. Hunter, who preceded her in death. There are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Hunter was the first Lady of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral Services, Saturday, April 15, 2000 at 11:00 a.m., at Grace Temple Baptist Church, 1020 E. 31st St., with Rev. L.D. Marion officiating. Visitation: Friday, April 14, 2000 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at ADAIR DODGE FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. McINNIS, E. Patricia, 76, of Tucson, passed away Monday, April 10, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Saundra McInnis. Patricia was very proud to have serviced in WWII, Canadian Women's Corp. Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13th at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway Blvd., with Mary Benedict officiating. ORTIZ, Gilbert 'Rod' 32, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away April 10, 2000. preceded in death by daughter, Crystal Ortiz. Survived by wife, Lidia Ortiz; parents, Augustine and Margaret Ortiz; daughters, Briana and Melissa Ortiz; son, Michael Ortiz; sisters, Norma and Yvonne Martinez; brothers, Alex (Denise), Ernie (Carmen), Jesus Ortiz and Rudy Martinez. Also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army. ROBLES, Barnabe 'Barney' 62, of Tucson, passed away April 8, 2000. preceded in death by parents and sisters, Gloria Leon and Dorothy Whaley. Survived by sister, Helen; brothers, Alfonso, Daniel and Alfred. Also survived by 15 nieces and nephews. Barnabe worked for KUAT and KGUN. SMALE, Elizabeth Breen, 76, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, died April 10, 2000. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, the eldest daughter of Elizabeth Reidenbach and Peter J. Breen. She moved to Tucson in 1958. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara; and husband, George H. Smale. She is survived by daughters, Norma Versakos, Nancy (Robert) Irwin, Meri Smale, Jennifer Maxwell of Detroit, MI; and son, George Smale; sisters, Patricia Breen, Rose Marie Clearfield, and Mary Lou Shirtz; grandchildren, Christian, Gitane, Patrick, Billy, Natalie, Peter, Dennis, Brian and Gabriela; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family memorial will be held Sunday, April 16. Mom, may you rest in peace in your beloved Ireland.

THIEL, Marvin Charles, 65 years old, died April 9, 2000 in Tucson. Born on October 27, 1934 in Bayard, Nebraska. Survived by his friend, Lorraine Ferguson of Tucson; daughter, Calleen Callahan of Darby, MT; and stepson, Calvin Ferguson of Tucson; seven grandchildren. No services are planned. ANDERSON, Jean F., 88, of Tucson, died Monday, April 10, 2000. She is survived by her children, Carol Preslar, Ralph (Karen) Anderson; grandchildren, Dean, Andrea, Wesley, Dawn, Daniel, Christina; great-grandchildren, Steven, Corey, Sean, Ashleigh, Ryan, Kaylee, Sarah. Mrs. Anderson was born on February 2, 1912 in Oland, Sweden and immigrated to the United States as a young woman. She married Carl Einar Anderson on September 14, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1988. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2000 at Desert Skies United Methodist Church, 3255 N. Houghton Rd., with Pastor Peter Vaught officiating. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 616 N. Country Club Rd., Tucson, 85716.
