BLAZZARD, Norman J., born in 1921, died April 10, 2000, 30 year retiree of the USAF, member of the Masonic Lodge in Riverside, CA, Scottish Rite of Tucson and Sabbar Shrine. Norm served his country with pride and lived his life with dignity and honor. Norm will be missed by a loving family and many friends.
Interment will be held Friday, April 14, 1:00 p.m. at Ft. Huachuca Post cemetery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 15, 11:00 a.m., at the Sabbar Shrine, 450 S. Tucson Blvd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sabbar Shrine.

BRIJIDO 'CHIO' V. COCIO, 72, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away April 11, 2000. preceded in death by sister, Mary Vasquez of San Pedro, California; parents, Brijido and Ramona Cocio. Survived by wife, Ester; sisters, Carmen ViraMontes of San Pedro, California, Toni Estrada, Tillie (Eddie) Mendivil, Fina (Arturo) Ramirez and Connie (Henry) Martinez. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2000 from 4:00 till next morning at the residence of the Cocio family, 216 W. 34th St., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Saturday, April 15, 2000, 9:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery.
Chio worked as an auto glass technician, worked for Newman Auto Glass, Whithorn Auto Glass, National Auto Glass and Lof. Chio's hobby was restoring classic cars.

DAHL, Kenneth 'Kenny' Robert, Jr., 24, of Tucson, died at home on Friday, April 7, 2000 after courageously facing a lifetime of challenges living with Hallervorden-Spatz, an extremely rare neurological disorder.
Born on February 24, 1976, in Elyria, Ohio, Kenny was the only child of Kenneth R. Dahl, Sr. of Tucson (formerly of Elyria and Forrest City, Ark.) and the late Gloria (Riffle) Dahl.
Kenny attended school in Ohio before his family moved to Tucson. In 1995 he graduated from the Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind, where he pursued his love of music, performing in the school's choir.
He loved music, but baseball was Kenny's passion. His happiest times were spent at a ballpark. He loved attending baseball games, however, he lived for taking the field with his Tucson Challenger Little League teams, which he was able to do for seven years before his illness forced him off the diamond. In 1998, he became the first member inducted into the Challenger Little League Hall of Fame.
Kenny is survived by his father, Ken; his maternal grandmother, Gayla Riffle (Elyria); his aunts, Janet Sabo (Elyria) and Charnell Dahl-Veenstra (Boise, ID); his uncles, John Riffle, Jr. (Elyria), Dennis Dahl (Smyrna, TN), and Todd Dahl (Park Rapids, MN); and numerous cousins.
His mother, Gloria; his maternal grandfather, John Riffle, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, George and 'Beep' Dahl; and his uncle, Jim Riffle, preceded him in death.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Valley Mortuary and Memorial Gardens, Green Valley, Arizona, with interment to follow. Visitation will begin at 10:30.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Kenny's name to: The Tucson Challenger Little League, 6069 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712.

FIGUEIRA, Charles, 83, longtime resident of Tucson, died April 10, 2000. Survived by wife, Jewell E. Figueira; niece-in-law, Bongkot Figueira; and great-nephew, John Figueira. Service Thursday, 1:00 p.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY. Interment in the F.O.E. Aerie #180 Section of Evergreen cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service time, EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

LICTER, Pearl A., 89, of Tucson, formerly of Lynn, MA, passed away April 11, 2000. She was preceded in death by brother, Louis. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Julius; daughter, Sandra; son, Philip (Faylene); grandchildren, Lori and Beth, all of Tucson; and twin sister, Marion of New Jersey. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. A Graveside Service was held Wednesday, April 12, 2000, Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen cemetery, with Rabbi Robert Eisen and Cantor Ivor Lichterman of Congregation Anshei Israel officiating. Memorial week will be observed at the home of Philip and Faylene Licter. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 5132 E. Pima, Tucson, AZ 85712. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery.

FRANK ROYBAL NORTON, 58, son of Frank L. and Nora W. Norton, who preceded him in death, passed away April 6, 2000. A native Tucsonian, Frank was a member of the first graduating class of St. Ambrose Catholic School. He graduated from Salpointe High School and in 1964 graduated from the U of A with a B.S. in Business Finance. He received an M.S. in Special Ed from Eastern Montana College in Billings. His love of teaching was fulfilled at Tolson and Miller Elementary schools. He served as Tucson Education Committee Building Representative; T.E.A. Executive Committee – Board of Directors; Tucson Delegate – Arizona State Education Assn. and was a lifetime member of T.E.A.'s Blue Nightie Brigade. Club memberships include: T.E.A.'s Bowling League, Sierra Club, Bedlington Terrier Club of America (B.T.C.A.) and Bedlington Rescue, Greenspeace and the A.C.L.U. He is survived by sister, Onofre (David) Schnack, 'Long-nosed Kids' Potsie, Panz and Bonkers; cousin, Stephanie Hoefle; numerous other cousins and a plethora of wild and crazy friends. A special thanks to Bill and Jerry for their caring and love. Memorial Mass 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2000 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 150 S. RAINEY, James Lee, born February 23, 1932, left this world and the loving arms of his family on April 10, 2000. Left behind wife, Carla; seven children, Deborah Nelson, Tamara Theiss, Rodney Rainey, Jill Nelson, Alan Wallace, Philip Wallace, and Janice Rimer; 19 grandchildren, four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Bonnie Rainey. Retired 25 years of service from T.E.P. Years of volunteer service in our community with the Sunnyside School District and Little League, also involved at Casas Adobes Baptist Church. Visitation is Thursday, April 13, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Evergreen Mortuary. Services will be held on Friday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Casas Adobes Baptist Church, 10801 N. La Cholla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Arthritis Foundation.

SCHWARTZ, Robert N. (Bob Fields), 72, died April 11, 2000. Beloved husband of Dianna (Weiss); loving father of Renee Young of Los Angeles, CA, Linda King of San Diego, CA, Richard and Douglas 'D.J.' Schwartz, both of Tucson; devoted grandfather of five. Bob Fields was a well-known jeweler in Tucson for over forty years as a proprietor of White Jewelers, Carters Fine Jewelry and Fields Jewelry and Pawn. He was a member of the Aaron Lodge No. 49 F. & A.M. of Tucson and a life member of Tucson Elks Lodge No. 385. Service will be held Friday, April 14, 2000 at 11:00 a.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with the Tucson Masonic Sojourners officiating. Interment to follow in the Masonic Section of Evergreen cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's Speech Center of the Scottish Rite. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

SMITH, Morris Johnson, 87, of Tucson, peacefully passed away on April 7, 2000. Morris was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, moving to Tucson when he was 17. He was the third child of Dennis and Martha Smith. He attended high school at Tucson High where he was a basketball/football star. He received a basketball scholarship to the U of Arizona. He met his loving wife Olie of 55 years while on vacation in California. Olie preceded Morris on March 26, 1998. Morris worked most of his life as a warehouse manager at Baker Thomas.
Morris lived for his wife and family. He is survived by only son, Dennis 'Burly' Smith and his wife, Katie of Kalispell, Montana; four grandchildren, Shannon and wife, Lauren, Lon, Jason, Brittany and one great grandchild, Bailey. Morris also left many nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Mo.
Morris will always be remembered as the life of the party and a caring man who did anything for those who asked. He was a devout Catholic, and was heavily involved in Maryknoll and the Elks Club. He will live in the hearts of those he left behind. He touched the lives of all who knew him with his unique wisdom and wet forehead kisses. Here's to the Head of the Family.
Two services will be held for Morris. The first, in Kalispell, Montana at St. Matthews Catholic Church on April 14, 2000. A memorial graveside service will also be held in Tucson at Holy Hope cemetery in June, 2000.

SMITH-SELLERS, Maxine, 90, formerly of Albuquerque, NM, passed away in Tucson on March 28, 2000. She is survived by her son, Robert 'Bob' A. Sellers of Oracle, AZ; nephews, Jerry Parson of Phoenix, Thomas Martin-Boyd of Roswell, NM, Kerry Boyd of Santa Fe, NM, Bob Boyd of Amarillo, TX, Dick Crawford of Slidill, LA; sister, Dorothy Henry of Albuquerque, NM; friend, Mildred Weeks and many other dear friends. Maxine worked many years for Alfred M. Lewis in outside sales. Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15 at ARIZONA MORTUARY UNIVERSITY CHAPEL, corner of Stone & University Blvd. In lieu of flowers, a remembrance gift can be given to AZ Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, 2501 E. Elm St. #171, Tucson, 85716.

SWEET, Freda Calderwood, died March 9, 2000 at the Pennsylvania Memorial Home in Brookville, PA. Freda was born January 1914 in Widnoon, PA, daughter of Meade and Grace Simpson. She married David Calderwood in 1935, he died in 1955. She married Arthur Sweet in 1974, and he died in 1980. Freda worked many years in the office of Flowing Wells Irrigation. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Knisely of Sun City West, AZ; two brothers, Don and William Simpson of Roseville, PA. Services were March 12, 2000 at McKinney Funeral Home in Brookville, PA. Interment was at Pisgah cemetery in Corsica, PA.

WESTHAFER, Tim Gordon, 59, beloved father, passed away April 9, 2000. Survived by sons, Timothy Roy and Cody James; sisters, Carolee Rainey, Jill Iurato, and Cheryl Westhafer. Tim was born in Urichsville, OH, moved to Tucson in '69 where he devoted his life to the equine profession. His boys will greatly miss his dedication and devotion as a father and to their motorcycle racing. Service, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15th, at Adair Dodge. Friends may call 742-7886.

RICHARD G. WOLSFELD, 48, of Tucson, passed away April 9, 2000. He was born June 15, 1951 in Aurora, Illinois to Gerald and Janice Wolsfeld. He is survived by his mother, Janice Grike; brother, Andy (Cristy), Paul, Jeff (Mady), David (Anita); stepsister, Shirley Austin; girlfriend, Cindy Cota; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2000 in the Recreation Hall at Continental West Mobile Home Park, 3810 N. Romero, Tucson. Richard will be sadly missed by his friends and relatives. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

ALICIA G. CARRANZA, age 68, passed on into eternal life with God on April 11, 2000. Born in Mexico, she later immigrated to Tucson with her husband. She worked as a sacristan for St. Augustine Cathedral for several years and later as a care provider at the Blossom Inn Nursing Home.
Our mother, Alicia, was preceded in death by her husband, Raul Carranza and her mother, Maria Jesus Gonzalez. A loving and devoted mother, she is survived by her children, Norma Alicia (Joe) Mejia, Hector (Raquel) Carranza, Nicolas (Diana) Carranza, Susana (Hector) Contreras, Marco Antonio Carranza, Lupe (Danny) Jaramillo, Raul 'Chilo' (Frances) Carranza, and Carlos Carranza. 'Nana Licha' was loved and adored, especially by her 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who thought of her as a very special and beautiful lady and will be greatly missed by them.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 16, at MARTINEZ FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2580 S. 6th Ave. from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 17, at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Inurnment service to follow at Holy Hope cemetery & Mausoleum, 3555 N. Oracle Rd., inside the Mausoleum.
