JONES, Hilda Lena, 97, of Glendale, formerly a long-time Tucson resident, passed away April 16, 2000. Born in Norton, Kansas, Miss Jones has lived the past 87 years in Arizona. She is survived by her nephews, Victor Rex of Glendale, Larry Rex of Plano, TX, and Raymond Jones of Pleasanton, TX; nieces, Georganna Dirst of Tucson, Mildred Brinkerhoff of San Diego, CA and Arleen Nelson of Phoenix; many grand nephews and nieces. Graveside service, Thursday at 11:00 a.m., Evergreen cemetery with Pastor John M. Witkop officiating. Friends may call Thursday, 10:30 a.m. until the service, EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

KESSLER, Shirley F., 72, of Tucson, passed away on April 17, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Nunley and Marilyn Kessler; granddaughter, April Flores; her sister, Celia Krentzen; plus other loving friends and relatives. Shirley will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed. Graveside service will be held at East Lawn Palms cemetery on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. with Rabbi Samuel Cohon officiating. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

J. Effie Russell, 81, closed her eyes on April 16, 2000 in a peaceful sleep in transition from this life, to eternal life with the Lord.
Born December 2, 1918, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lafayette Russell; daughters, Betty J. Kemp and Alice F. Hunter; parents, Rev. Lonnie and Rosie Reed; brothers, Lonnie Reed and Martin Reed.
She leaves to celebrate her home going, her daughter, Barbara King (Quincy) of CA; sisters, Jo Jones and Dorothy Holland of Tucson, AZ, Annie Porter, CA, Jean Leath, OH; and brother Jessie Reed, MI; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; brothers-in law; nieces, nephews, cousins; and an host of wonderful friends.
Visitation held on Thursday, April 20, 2000 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. Funeral services will be held, Friday, April 21, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, 122 W. 4th Street, with the Rev. Brian Reese officiating. Interment at South Lawn cemetery.

MICHAEL J. VINING
DECEMBER 12, 1964 – APRIL 16, 2000
Michael was born in Tempe, AZ and was a long time resident of Tucson. He graduated from Rincon High School in 1981 and served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Korea, Albuquerque, and Germany from 1981-1987. He worked various positions at Smith's/Fry's for the last 11 years.
He is survived by his loving and caring partner, Robert; two grandmothers, Pearl and Anita; father, Bill; mother, Connie; two sisters, Pam and Cheryl; and a myriad of other family and friends. All of us who loved him would like to thank him for showing us how to live with caring and dignity through all the pain and fear of his hard fought battle with cancer. We would also like to thank the caring staff at the V.A. Hospital for their dedication to his care and comfort, and their compassion for all of the people in their care.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network. In memory of Michael, a Celebration of life will be held on May 6.

BLANCO, Antonio 'Chi Chi' 86, of Tucson, formerly of Florence, AZ, died unexpectedly on April 18, 2000. Chi Chi was born in Florence, AZ, and worked as a janitor for Florence Public Schools for 27 years, retiring in 1979. Due to health problems, he moved to Tucson in 1994, where he resided until his unexpected death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucia. He is survived by children, Tony, Jr., Belen, Jose and Christina; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (@ Magee), at 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2000.

DAVIS, Claire Winnfred, 90, died April 18, 2000. Survived by son, Charles Davis; brother, Charles (Karen) Wright. Friends may call 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2000 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., where Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2000. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms cemetery.

KROSZNER, Mildred A., passed from this life on April 18, 2000. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur C. Kroszner. They are now on their way to forever, together. In her native Scotland Mildred was a music teacher, organist and choirmaster. She had many lifelong friends in Scotland, England and Canada. After emigrating to the United States of America she settled in New York City and was employed by Mutual of New York Insurance Company where she made many friends and described her years working there as a very happy, educational experience. Arthur and Mildred were residents of Tucson for over 22 years and both were involved in administrative work in Tucson Chapter 55 National Association of Retired Federal Employees for many years. Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday (today) April 20, 2000 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Friends may call one hour prior to service. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms cemetery.

WILLIAM RANSOM 'BILL' OLCOTT - Entered eternal life on April 14, 2000. Born April 10, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a WW II veteran decorated with the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Croix De Guerre. Retired from Mobil Corp. after 33 years of sales management, he has been a resident of Tucson since 1992.
Survived by wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Anne (Bette) Olcott; daughter, Bette May and her husband, Howard Schneider; sons, William R. Olcott II (Bill, Jr.) and Stephen Allan and his wife, Nancy Olcott; daughter, Nancy Jane and her husband, Doug Tyrrell; sisters, Betty Minskey and Irene Baker; grandchildren include John Schneider, Jack and Becky Olcott and Beth and Todd Tyrrell; great-grandchildren, Hannah Renee Olcott.
Bill will be reunited in heaven with his beloved daughter, Kathryn Anne and grandson, Brendan Schneider.

OLLER, Gertrude 'Kay', passed away on April 16, 2000. She was born September 10, 1906 in Beaver Dam, KY and has been a resident of Tucson since 1943. She was predeceased by her husband, Heber; and son, Herschel. Survivors include three sons, William (Linda), Oran (Joyce), David (Pat); three granddaughters, Rebecca, Debbie and Laura; and six grandsons, Steve, Mark, David Jr. (Michelle), Adam, David, and Troy; nine great-grandchildren also survive. She loved the Lord and was a member of Grace Chapel. Interment will be at East Lawn Mortuary on April 21, 2000. Family requests donations to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.

VALADEZ, Rudolph 'Rudy' passed away April 17, 2000 at age 59. Rudy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gloria G. Valadez; his children, Christina (Johan) Duner, Rudy Valadez, Jr., Elaine (John) Davis, Julie (Tony) D'Auria; his brother, David (Vicki) Valadez; his sisters, Irene Valadez, Susan Nides and Anna Marie Pain; and four grandchildren. Rudy served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Hancock and USS Coral Sea, from 1958 until 1962. He was selfemployed throughout most of his life, owning and managing various restaurants and food service businesses in his native Tucson. A devoted and loving family man with a wonderful sense of humor and a big heart, he will be missed by us all. Visitation is at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 23rd at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Memorial Service is at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 24th at St. Pius X Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo.

CYRIL B. WEGENER - Born Cyril McGee, August 16, 1901, died April 16, 2000. Mother of Gordina De Luca, James (Dale) Bell, Gale (Joan) Bell and Phil (Diane) Nolen; 22 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Gordon Bell, Wayne Nolen and Glenn Wegener and her son, Gordon Bell. Funeral Service 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2000 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Binghampton Ward, 3700 E. Ft. Lowell Rd. Burial to follow in Evergreen cemetery. BIAZO, John Jr., 76, former resident of Tucson and Nevada, died March 7, 2000 in Wichita, Kansas where he had recently made his home. Retired diesel mechanic. Purple Heart veteran of World War II. Predeceased by two brothers. Survived by wife, Ann and three stepchildren; brother, George of Springdale, AR; sons, Louis A. of Kingman, John L. of Honolulu, HI; daughter, Sheila A. Chonis of Tucson; first wife, Juanita Biazoof Tucson; and her four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to D.A.V.

Laura H. Elias, 75, died April 18, 2000. Mother of Patricia (Stephen) Aguilar of Tucson, AZ, Carlos (Lisa) Elias of Peoria, AZ and Nick (Dora) Elias of Tucson, AZ; grandmother of Steve, Chris, Michael, Daniel, Andrew, Anthony and Michael T. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2000 at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 25 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Avenue. GOMEZ, Dolores, F. (Estevan), born December 26, 1925, joined our heavenly Father, April 17, 2000. preceded in death by beloved wife, Bertha C. Gomez. Cherished Father to Sylvia (Ray) Tautimer, Estevan (Veronica) Gomez, Jorge (Michelle) Gomez, Lupe (John) Griego, Steve Gomez, Juana (Richard) Montoya, Cecilia (Pedro) Ruiz, Jesse Gomez and Victoria Aguilar. Survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation April 24, 2000 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary, 240 S. Stone Avenue, South Chapel. Mass on April 25, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church. Internment at Holy Hope cemetery.

KUIPER, Sarah Parker, formerly known as Sarah Roth and Sarah Lansberg, widow of Dr. Gerard P. Kuiper, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2000, in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the company of her daughter. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 4831 E. 22nd St on Friday, April 21, at 11:00 a.m.

Ryan James Moss, age 6, son of Collin and Karen Moss, passed away April 19, 2000 as a result of brain cancer. Born February 8, 1994, Ryan loved his Kindergarten class at Mesa Verde Elementary. He enjoyed making others happy by telling silly jokes and performing considerate acts. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 939 West Chapala Drive, Tucson on Saturday, April 22, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. A public viewing will be held between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the same location.
Burial to follow in LDS cemetery.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Collin and Karen Moss, Tucson; brothers and sister, Evan, Kelsey and Sean; grandparents, Joan Moss, Salt Lake city, UT, Lewis Bastian, Las Vegas, NV, Donna Bastian, Temecula, CA; great-grandmother, Una Bastian, Twin Falls, ID.

SIMS, Edward Mertin, 59, of Tucson, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2000. He is survived by two brothers, Tad and John Sims; a friend, David W. Hill. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

AUERBACH, Gerald, passed away April 20, 2000. We mourn the loss of this dear friend and Director of MDA's Television Production Division. An extraordinarily talented film and television director and producer, Jerry created his first film for the Association in 1956. He produced thousands of educational videos during some 45 years of helping the families MDA serves – many of which were featured on and contributed to the success of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. We extend heartfelt condolences to his wife, Elaine and to their four children.
