LUKE W. HARTING, 81, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2000. Born February 1, 1919 in Leola, PA. He is survived by his wife, Paula R. Harting; sons, Christian J. (Yolanda) of Sedona, AZ and Mark L. (Coleen); grandchildren, Adam, Daniel, and Meghan of Tucson, AZ. After graduating high school, Luke was employed by Chrysler in Hershey, PA, later joined the USAF. A veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam War, Luke retired from the USAF in December 1966 residing in Las Vegas, NV. Luke was a security guard for the MGM Grand Hotel retiring from there as well. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, horseback riding, and feeding wild birds. He truly loved his grandchildren. Thank you Lord for allowing Luke to be a part of our lives. Visitation one hour prior to service time at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. DON D. KAY, JR. - Went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2000. Beloved son of Joy and Don, Sr.; loving husband of Jean Anne Arden; and son-in-law of Grace and Peter Sciortino. Don was a hardworking and devoted employee of Beaudry RV and always considered himself a company man. His generosity, kind heart and loving ways were known by everyone who knew him or even just came in contact with him. He also was very devoted to his Schnauzers Sadie, Winston and Bogart. He is also survived by his loving sister, Mare Shey and her husband, Doug; brother, Bob; his wife, Nancy and their three children, Bob Jr., A.J. and Allena. KILROY, Peter, born March 8, 1917, died April 23, 2000. A 30 year resident of Tucson. He was active in the Tucson Theater Arts and enjoyed Opera and various performances in the Tucson area. He was born in Chicago, IL and won the prestigious Chicago Sun Times Award for interior design while employed at the Merchandise Mart.

LEON LASALLE
May 26, 1948 – April 24, 2000
Leon was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Tucson in 1978.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Hontz (Steve); son, Steven; son, Brad; grandson, Josh; granddaughter, Kelsey; loving partner, Babs Greenbaum; a number of extended family members, and many, many, many long time friends. He was a devoted father and stalwart friend.
Leon, 'Doc', had a long and successful career in the swimming pool industry. He was a teacher, a leader, and a man of action. He was active in NSPI, IPPSA and The Friars. He put 100% into everything he did. Golf was his passion, though he never thought he played well enough. His other passion was FreeCell, which he was better at than golf.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27th at Tucson National Resort on the terrace. We welcome anyone who knew and loved him.
He will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.

MAKKAI, John, passed away in Tucson, Arizona, April 26, 2000. Born in Hungary in 1904, he came to America through Ellis Island in 1911 and became a naturalized citizen. He served in the United States Army Air Corps. He worked at Merck and Company in New Jersey before retiring to Arizona. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Husband of the late Helen Fetyko Makkai for 47 years. Father of John E. Makkai of Tucson, Albert Makkai of Centerville, MA, the late Shirley Somerville and the late, Alexander Makkai. Survived also by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, William; and a sister, Joan Bodnar of Carteret, New Jersey. Private services will be held in Tucson. PACE, Corda Elizabeth, 70, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 24, 2000. Corda was born August 8, 1929 in Walnut, KS. She joins her husband, Joe; granddaughter, Elizabeth; father, Cleo; mother, Charlotte; and brother, Donald in their eternal home in heaven. She is survived by her children, Carol, Michael, Gayla and Mary; grandchildren, Samantha (Jason) Howell, Joe, Amanda, Jon, Jeremy, Jason, and Jeffery Gonzalez, Michael and Dan Pace, and Thomas Keith; great-grandsons, Austin and Isaiah Howell all of Tucson; brothers, Ralph Hunt of Buckeye, Roy (Frances) Hunt, and Jack (Alice) Hunt; sisters, Virginia Martin, Frances (LeRoy) Scheetz, and Twila (Jim) Miller all of Colorado; sister-in-law, Carol Hunt of Phoenix. PARKS, Nellie, age 86, passed away April 25th, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Bender; brother, Bill Ward; granddaughters, Deborah Dinkins and Donna Quick; and great-grandchildren, James and Jascelyn Quick, who she was ever so proud of.
She was born in Oklahoma on August 7th, 1913. She was a long time resident of Roswell, NM and a continuing member of ABWA. Decorated for outstanding achievement, she served for over 25 years in the Chavez County chapter of the American Red Cross. She has been a resident of Tucson since 1989.

LUIS VALENZUELA, JR., 48, of Tucson, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Petra A. Valenzuela; son, Luis Valenzuela III; daughters, Alexis A. Valenzuela, Delianna M. Valenzuela; father, Luis Valenzuela, Sr.; mother-in-law, Maria Alvarez Valenzuela; brothers, Jesus Valenzuela, Fernando Valenzuela, Guadalupe (Anna) Valenzuela, Ricky Valenzuela, Freddy Valenzuela; sister, Lydia (Esteban) Baltazar; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Enedina Valenzuela. There will be an all night vigil held at Calvary Evangelistic Center, which starts at 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000. GERALD AUERBACH, of Tucson, AZ and Essex Fells, NJ, died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 20, 2000. Besides his wife Elaine, he is survived by their four children, Anne of Parsippany, NJ, Jeanne Cohen and her husband, Jeff of Hartford, CT, Lee Morgan and her husband, Dan of Avon, CT, and Bill and his wife, Hope of West Hartford, CT; and nine granddaughters, Gabrielle, Isabel, Olivia, and Elinor Cohen; Elizabeth, Abby and Caroline Morgan; and Emily and Mary Auerbach. Jerry was born in Astoria, Queens, NY. He served as a photographer in the army in WWII and early in his career taught filmmaking at the New School in NYC. He continued his career in film at NBC Studios also in NYC. In the 1950's and 60's, he owned his own production company producing various TV commercials, as well as educational films for the medical and pharmaceutical fields. For most of his career in filmmaking, Jerry was a consultant for the Muscular Dystrophy Association producing and directing educational programs and videos. As the Director of the Television Production Division for the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, Jerry traveled the country each year creating and directing award-winning Telethon profiles of families served by MDA. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, May 1, 2000 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Muscular Dystrophy Association headquarters, Tucson, AZ. DeGON, Leland E., a 46 year resident of Tucson, was born on November 27, 1920 in Malone, NY and passed away on April 25, 2000 in Tucson, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley R.; his three children, Roxanne Gullet of Tucson, Vincent (Victoria) and George (Elaine) DeGon of Arizona City and his five much loved grandchildren and one great-grandchild. GOODLOW, Richard H., 69, resident of Oro Valley, passed away on April 25, 2000. Born in Illinois, resident of the Tucson area for 10 years. Survived by wife of 45 years, Beverly; a daughter, Dayna Britnell (Michael) of Pinetop-Lakeside; son, Gary Goodlow of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren; mother, June Hoover of Indiana; father, Harold Goodlow of Washington; brother, Robert Goodlow of Hawaii; sister, Barbara Doonan (Michael) of Florida; niece, Judy Pennings (Luke) and nephew, Anthony Cavalli (Mary Jo) both of Illinois. Dick was a former Air Force pilot and retired Captain for United Airlines. His love of flying started at an early age and he obtained a pilot's license on his 16th birthday. He managed to pilot airplanes every year for 53 consecutive years. He was a member of Oro Valley Country Club and a past-president. Dick expressed a wish that there be no funeral but that all his friends would be invited to an Open House celebration of his life at Oro Valley Country Club at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30. GUY, Charles Armor, Jr., age 72, passed away suddenly on April 25, 2000. He was born and raised in Lubbock, TX. Graduated from Texas Tech University in 1949. Member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Charles was one of the founding fathers of Hughes Aircraft Co., which brought him to Tucson in the early 1950's. Later he joined the brokerage firms of Shearson Hammill and Prudential Securities. He remained active in the financial world during his semi retirement. He was known to many as 'Charlie' and was loved and respected by all. Those who knew him will remember his 'low key' approach to life, his kindness, and willingness to help others. Survivors include: mother, Grace Guy of Amarillo, TX; brother, Dorrance H. Guy (Jane) of Aledo, TX; brother, George M. Guy (Leslie) of Amarillo, TX; three nieces, one nephew, five great nieces, and many Tucson, AZ friends.
