JOHNSON, Eva J., 50 years old, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000 in Tucson. Born on July 11, 1949 in Pensacola, Florida. Survived by brother, Elton H. Johnson of Marietta, GA; two nephews and one greatniece; her cat, Meta; lots of loving friends and extended family of Tucson, Florida, and around the world. Private services will be held. Family suggests memorials be made to Eva Johnson Fund, Dept. of Women's Studies at the University of Arizona.
Eva will be remembered for organizing the pain clinic at the University Medical Center, the development of Border Health and legal projects including C.I.R.O. and TELLA. She received an MA in Latin American studies which she used in her teaching of Spanish language, history, and culture. Eva traveled to many places in the world. She loved to dance and spread glitter around.

MONTANA A. ARRINGTON, 81, of Tucson, AZ died April 28, 2000. She is survived by her husband, George Arrington of Tucson; daughter, Yvonne Bethel of Tucson; son, Bill Arrington of Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Steve Cassell of Portland, OR; Scott Cassell of Tucson, AZ; Linda Ruhser of Denver, CO; Heidi Arrington of Ft. Collins, CO; Billy Arrington of Loveland, CO; Paul Arrington of Loveland, CO. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 750 W. Chapala Dr., Monday, May 1, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carla Williams officiating. Donations may be made in memory of Montana to the Arthritis Foundation, 616 N. Country Club Rd., Tucson, 85716. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave at Magee.

ARLINE KOTITE ANTHONY BATEMAN
August 31, 1923 – April 26, 2000
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., graduated from Brown University (Pembroke College), 1944, and a fifty-six-year resident of Tucson, Arline Bateman died of lung cancer at home in Tucson. Her second husband, Herman (Pete) Bateman, died in 1997; her first husband and father of her children, John Anthony, from whom she was divorced in 1979, died in 1992. She was also predeceased by brother, Don; daughter, Wyatt; and son, John, Jr. She is survived by son, Ryan; daughter, Dorrie, son-in-law, Nick Bastiampillai, all of Tucson; stepdaughter, Ann Bateman Justison of Oakland, Calif.; stepson, Tom Bateman of Flagstaff; and five step grandchildren in Arizona and California.
Arline was active for many years in Seniors' Achievement and Growth through Education (SAGE), in the Tucson Press Club and as a writer for and performer in the TPC Gridiron Show, as a recruiter for Brown University, and as a traveler to five continents. In the 1940s she worked at the city desk of the Tucson Daily Citizen, in the 1970s she was employed by Nordensson Lynn Advertising, and in the '80s she edited the SAHBA Builder magazine for the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association.
She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, she was the first woman editor of the Brown Daily Herald, and around 1980 she coined the name of the still-active Tucson band Jazzberry Jam.
She will be missed greatly by family and friends of all ages.

D. WENDELL CHEEK was born in Tillman County, Oklahoma, April 13, 1931 and passed away April 29, 2000 in Oro Valley, Arizona. He was the second of four sons of Alton J. Cheek and Ruth E. Culbreath Cheek. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Alton J. Cheek, Jr. and William Carl Cheek.
Wendell is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Ann Bechtelheimer Cheek; son, Kevin R. Cheek of Denver, CO; daughter, Dana S. Painter (David); grandchildren, Brettney and Grayson of Midlothian, Virginia; brother, Dr. Gerald D. Cheek (Lois); and nephews, Steven and Michael Cheek of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Jean Cheek; and aunts, Lucille Cheek and Laura Smith; plus several cousins.
Wendell graduated from Grant County, Kansas high school in 1949 and Fort Hays State University in 1957 with a B.S. in Botany and Range Land Management. In 1946-47, he served in the U.S. Army in Tokyo and in 1951-53 in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea. Wendell received the Purple Heart and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1957, he started farming in Ulysses, Kansas, and ranching in Fairplay, CO. While living in Ulysses, Kansas, he was active in numerous civic activities including State Chairman of Agriculture for Jr. Chamber of Commerce and Two Term City Council Member. He also received the Kansas Banker Award for Conservation and Grant County, Kansas J.C. Outstanding Young Farmer Award.
In 1973, Wendell retired from ranching, moved to Denver, CO, and specialized in real estate water brokerage. In Denver, he served on the board for Cherry Hills III Homeowners Assoc. and was a member of Valley Country Club and Cherry Hills Country Club.
In 1992, Wendell moved to Oro Valley, Arizona to retire. He obtained an Arizona real estate license, served as Chairman of the Oro Valley Water Utility Commission, and was a member of the Oro Valley Assured Water Supply Task Force. As a member of the Oro Valley Country Club, he served a three year term on the board as Chairman of the Green Committee and Vice President for two years. He was a fisherman, hunter, pilot, and an avid golfer.
Wendell's wonderful sense of humor, ready smile, and hearty laugh will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Friends may gather for a celebration of his life on the 18th green on Monday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Oro Valley C.C., 200 W. Valle Del Oro Road, Oro Valley, Arizona 85737. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for a special landscape project at Oro Valley C.C. or the Prostate Cancer Research Institute, 5777 W. Century Blvd., Suite 885, Los Angeles, CA 90045-9787.

GOLDSTEIN, Irving Joseph, 59, of Tucson, died April 28, 2000 in Las Vegas, NV. Survived by wife, Antoinette J. Goldstein of Tucson; children, Elizabeth, Michael and Rebecca, all of Tucson. Memorial Service Thursday, 4:00 p.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY CHAPEL, with Rabbi Joseph S. Weizenbaum of Congregation Ner Tamid officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of choice, in memory of Irving J. Goldstein. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

CATHERINE ANN HONOMICHL
1919 – 2000
Catherine Honomichl went to be with our Lord April 27, 2000. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Emil G. Honomichl.
Catherine was born in Omaha, Nebraska and became a resident of Arizona in 1951. She was an active member of Our Mother of Sorrows Church, belonging to the Altar Society and Perpetual Adoration Society. She was also a member of the Women's Bowling Association for many years.
Catherine is survived by her children, Roger (Dalia) Honomichl of Maryland; Kathleen Paoli, Michael (Nancy) Honomichl of Tucson; her grandchildren, David Paoli of Tucson; Joseph (Stephanie) Paoli of Texas; Bill (Erika) Honomichl of Tucson; and Scott (Melanie) Honomichl of Gilbert. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Christina, Mina, Maria, Marissa and Robert Paoli and Tyler and Tanner Honomichl; as well as her sisters, brother, nieces and nephews in Omaha, Nebraska. Catherine will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to send their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Encore Senior Village for the loving and tender care they provided Catherine during the past three months. They will be forever in our thoughts and prayers.
Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Wed- nesday, May 3, 2000 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Road. Burial in Holy Hope cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 2 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. McGUIRE, Patrick F., 64, of Tucson, died April 29, 2000. A loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survived by his wife of 36 years, Deanna; children, Joseph (Monica), Edward (Crystal), Nancy and Kevin; grandchildren, Daniel, Denae and Wrigley; three sisters and two brothers. Mass 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Burial follows at East Lawn Palms cemetery. He will live forever with each one of us.
