JAHNKE, Lois F., of Tucson, formerly of Freeport, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 1, 2000. She is survived by daughters, Andrea Jahnke, Jolene Stratton (Jeff), both of Grand Junction, Colorado; grandsons, Chris Dixon, Richard Ross, Steven Stratton (Amy); great-grandsons, Brandon Stratton and Niles Stratton. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

ROXANNE MARIE LEYVAS, 21, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away April 30, 2000. Survived by fiance, Ernesto F. Samaniego; grandparents, Mary P. and Alberto C. Soto, Eleanor Alvarez and Andrew B. Leyvas; parents, Eddie 'Big Ed' and Lamar Leyvas; sister, JoAnn Leyvas; brothers, Eddie Leyvas, Jr. and Lenny Ostos; brother-in-law, John Merten; sisters-in-law, Nora Leyvas and Yvonne Ortiz; nephew, Eddie Roman Leyvas III; nieces, Evette and Renee Leyvas, Janay and Jalissa Lopez and Mercedes Ostos; godparents, Matilda and Manny Juarez; best friend/sister, Dina Islas; best friend/brother, Xavi Fimbres.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 07, 2000 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Monday, May 8, 2000, 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery.
Roxanne was our Angel here on earth and God has chosen her to be his angel up in heaven. She along with her closest cousin, Roman Juarez, who was only 17 when he passed are now looking down on us all, shielding us with their wings and spreading us with sunshine with their bright smiles. They are dearly missed and will always be with us heart, mind and spirit.

REINER, David Maurice, 67, of Tucson, died May 2, 2000. He was born May 18, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Benjamin William and Dorothy (Rabinowitz) Reiner. Mr. Reiner graduated from high school in Brooklyn and attended Perdue University. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to 1968 he lived in Oregon where he was employed by IBM. In Tucson he was president of DMR Security Company. He was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. Mr. Reiner was predeceased by his wife, Mollie (Hardin) Reiner. He is survived by his children, Jody (David) Jones of OR, Lynn Ann 'Lulu' (William) Sivilli of FL and David Scott (Karen) Reiner of Tucson; grandchildren, Joshua David Jones, Nicholas Jones, Lauren Sivilli, Rachel Sivilli and Samuel Greylend Scott Reiner; a brother, William Reiner of Tucson; a nephew, Keith Reiner of Tucson; he is also survived by stepchildren, Ronald Scott (Rollis) Hyman of Tucson, Kenneth Ross (Mary Lynn) Hyman of Santa Barbara, CA, Lynne (Tom) Warne of Bellevue, WA; and four step grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, 12:00 p.m., Congregation Anshei Israel Epstein Chapel, 5550 E. 5th St., with Rabbi Arthur R. Oleisky and Cantor Ivor Lichterman officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of David Maurice Reiner to the American Diabetes Association, or the American Heart Association, or The Angel Charity for Children, Inc.

CAROLYN ELIZABETH SAPP
May 8, 1922 – May 3, 2000
Carolyn went to be with our Lord May 3, 2000. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Franklin G. Sapp. Carolyn was born in Camden, NJ and became a resident of Tucson, Arizona in 1975. She was an active member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church for many years. Carolyn is survived by her son, Barry (Mary) F. Sapp of Tucson; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff) Kaye of Glendora, CA, Christopher Sapp of Tucson, Michael (Wendy) Sapp of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Nicholas, Ashli, Courtney, and her close friend of many years, Bill Simmons.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 6th at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association Arizona, or the American Cancer Society.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

SWEARINGEN, Paula, died at the age of 78, at the Tucson Heart Hospital on May 3, 2000. She has requested cremation with no memorial service. Paula Swearing is survived by M. Wesley Swearingen, her partner and friend for 38 years.

ALICE M. WILLIAMSON, of Tucson and Chicago, died at TMC Hospice April 25, 2000 while under the loving care of its members. She is survived by a son, Michael of Dis Plains, Ill. and dear friend, John Huston, and many friends who visited her while she was ill. She belonged to the Audubon Society and many other organizations. She will be missed by us all. Services will be held privately.
P.S. – She was one great Chicago Cubs fan.

DICKERSON, Celeste Turton, born July 12, 1906, died peacefully on May 1, 2000. Special friends Una, Audrey, Harlan, Duane, Roberta, nephews, Waverly House residents and caregivers survive her. Celeste was a veteran of World War II and retired as a Sargent from the W.A.C.'s; also a retired civil service employed for Davis Monthan Air Force Base. Celeste will be remembered for her long service of volunteerism at the Tucson Association for the Blind, 30 years at the Pio Decimo Neighborhood Center, the Flower Square Nursing Home, and St. Mark's Presbyterian Church. She leaves as her legacy her winning smile and many kindnesses to the less fortunate. Memorial services will be held at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 3803 E. Third St., on May 11, at 11:00A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the memorial fund of Scholarships for Youth at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church.

EDMINSTER, Alice, age 99, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2000. She is survived by three sons, Eugene (Gretchen) Edminster, Warren (Inge) Edminster, both of Tucson, and Lowell (Linda) Edminster of Ft. Washington, MD; one daughter, Lu Chesser of Tucson. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Private services will be held for the immediate family. A Celebration of her Life will be held June 22nd, the 100th anniversary of her birth, at the Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. An announcement of this event will be published again at a later date. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

BERNARDINE JEFFREY, 51, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2000. She has been a resident of Tucson for the past 28 years where she worked as an AIDS counselor. She received the Humanitarian Award twice and was also named Counselor of the Year. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Mendez; daughter, Amy-Dawn M. Gasho; son, Daniel A. Jeffrey. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

REYNOLDS, Raymond H., age 87, of Tucson, passed away May 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; daughter, Kathleen (Stephen) Derwinski; sons, Michael (Karen), Richard (Jennifer) and Christopher Reynolds; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Charles, and Michael Reynolds; sister, Fern Wagner; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2000 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Boulevard just South of Speedway. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National cemetery at a later date.

VALENZUELA, Mario Luis, 34, of Tucson, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Maria Valenzuela. He is survived by his wife, Margarita Alvarez; daughters, Maria Lisa Valenzuela, Michelle Valenzuela, sisters, Virginia Alvarez, Isabel (Frank) Bracamonte; brothers, Fernando Garcia, Joe (Yvonne) Garcia; grandfather, Juan Valenzuela; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. An all-night wake will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2000 at San Ignacio de Loyola Church, 785 W. Sahuaro St. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Hope cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to HEATHER MORTUARY.

WILLIAMS, Ray A., 93, of Tucson, died May 1, 2000. preceded in death by his wife, Marion C. Survived by daughter, Donna Collins; grandchildren, Marina Robertson, Christine Hildenbrand, and Gene Hildenbrand; seven great-grandchildren, one brother, sisters and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 8th at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., where friends may visit one hour prior to service. Entombment will be in East Lawn Palms Mausoleum.

ZALES, Michael, 63, of Tucson, died May 4, 2000. Survived by wife, Ruth of Tucson; daughter, Melissa (Timothy) Koller of The Netherlands; son, Samuel Zales of Tucson; brother, William (Margot) Zales of CT; grandchildren, Katherine, Emily and Juliana Koller. Memorial Service Sunday, 3:30 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club Rd., with Rabbi Samuel Cohon officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Compelling Needs Fund of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona, 3800 E. River Rd., Tucson, AZ 85718. MARY C. DeACETIS, 71, died May 6, 2000. Survived by her best friend and loving husband of 34 years, Joseph C. DeAcetis; two sons, Stephen (Sally) Kelly of California; and Michael (Mary) Kelly of Virginia; four daughters, Catherine M. Kelly of California; Cecelia (Scott) Halsey of Washington; Margaret (Karl) Hasler and Ellen (Jack) Jensen of Tucson; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth (Hank) Koebel of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was born in New York City on January 14, 1929. She lived in New York and California before moving to Tucson in 1976. Retiring from IBM in 1991. Mary has been serving the community as a volunteer at Tucson Medical Cancer Care Center since 1993. Also an active member of the BPOE #2532 Ladies Auxiliary. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Entombment in Holy Hope Mausoleum. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

SHELDON LEE KOESTER, NOVEMBER 18, 1948 – MAY 5, 2000, 51 years young, passed away suddenly on May 5th, 2000. Leaving behind his adoring wife of 30 years, Pamela E. (Shuminas) Koester; Doting father of son, Danny Shawn (Adrienne-Kofka) Koester; daughter, Dionne Carmel (Joe) Fernandez and daughter, Kirstin Kathleen Grace Koester. Sheldon always burst with pride; he and his wife, Pamela, shared in daily adulation of their one grandson, Joey Anthony Fernandez, granddaughter, Leah Marie Fernandez, his twin, and granddaughter, Danielle Elizabeth Koester. Sheldon Lee Koester, preceded in death by both his father, John Henry Koester and his mother, Leona Della (Schrader), and nephews, Allen and Joshua Baysinger, all of Freeport, Illinois. The youngest son of Leona and John Koester, Sheldon has two older brothers: Richard (Joann) Koester, Dale (Kay) Koester and his older sister, Evelyn (Allen) Baysinger.
Sheldon graduated from the Ray Vogue School of Design in 1968 and worked at Montgomery Wards downtown Chicago. There he met his wife, Pam, and after the birth of their son, Danny, the family moved to Tucson, AZ. Though Sheldon had severe arthritis he raised a family and successfully completed his degree in teaching and a Master's Degree in counseling. He taught grades elementary through high school, the last 18 years of his career were as an art specialist at Drachman Primary Magnet in TUSD.
Sheldon's legacy is not riches, possessions, or worldly goods of any kind- it is the way he lived, the lives he touched, the promises he kept…It is the kind of man he was.
Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., Wednesday, May 10 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be a Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of cut flowers, the family requests live plants or donations to a favorite charity.

LESLEY, Shirley, died May 5, 2000. She was raised in the Yuba City and Marysville, California area. She was partner and owner of W.S. Sales Company which handled construction interior products. Shirley was Vice-President of the Women's Sub-Contractors and Executives of North Orange County for three years. She retired in April of 1994 to move to Tucson with her husband, William M. Lesley. Besides her husband, she is also survived by three sons, Dave (Linda) Lesley, Dan (Cindy) Lesley, and Robert Lesley. At Shirley's request, no services are planned. Arrangements by BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.
