ANNABEL M. (ANNE) BISHOP, 84, of Tucson, died peacefully May 1, 2000. Annabel Anderson was born April 3, 1916 in Ottumwa, Iowa of the Kalen and Anderson clans of Swedish heritage. She was always active in the Swedish family gatherings and bestowing Swedish traditions to her family. She was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While in high school she dated Robert M. (Bob) Bishop, and after graduating from the University of Iowa, these childhood sweethearts were married
June 29, 1940 and had three children, Jeff, John and David.
During their children's early years Anne was a mother and homemaker raising their family in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. Bob worked as the Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America's Grand Canyon Council in Flagstaff. Anne was a den mother and actively involved in their children's schooling and activities and community and church affairs.
Anne became a public school teacher in Flagstaff in 1961 and later, when Bob was transferred, taught in Tucson, Naperville, Illinois and then back to Tucson to stay in 1974. They retired in 1978, although Anne continued to substitute teach, and they remained active in the community and Rincon Congregational church activities. Anne was past president of Chapter An of P.E.O., remained active in Pi Beta Phi sorority alumni activities and was known among her friends as an avid and highly skilled bridge player.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband Bob who died February 23, 2000 and her son Jeff. She is survived by her sons, John of Santa Fe, New Mexico and David of Baraboo, Wisconsin; daughters-in-law, Sherry and Cathy, as well as her six grandchildren, Tamara, Kelly Sue, Amanda, Brianne, Andrew and David; and two great-grandchildren, Madeleine Nangula and Sophia Marie.
As wife, mother and grandmother she bathed her family and friends in love and light. She was passionately involved with her family activities such as cooking, sewing, and knitting. She knitted a Christmas stocking for each member of her family. May she dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
A memorial will be held Saturday, May 13, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rincon Congregational Church, 122 N. Craycroft, Tucson, AZ 85711. Donations in her honor may be made to P.E.O. Continuing Education Fund, 447 E. Canyon View Place, Tucson, AZ 85704 to assist young women in their continuing education and personal development.

CURTIS, Clark W., 85 years old, died May 3, 2000. Clark was born in Clinton County, OH February 28, 1915. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Fern Curtis; son, Bill (Cheryl) Curtis; daughters, Maxine (Gerry) Ault and Kathleen (Ted) Holmes; sister, Mary (Bruce) Taylor; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Clark was a devoted husband and father. He died peacefully at his home in Tucson. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
DEMAS, John, 77, died Thursday, May 4, 2000 at the Greenwich Hospital after a long battle with Cancer. Born April 26, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late John Zissis and Anthea Manthopoulos Demas. John was a veteran of WWII and served in the European, African and Middle Eastern theatre of operations. He was a cryptographer in the OSS during his military service. He graduated from New York University in 1947 and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma honor society for business. John was Vice-President of sales for the Bradens California Food Products in the metropolitan New York area for over 40 years. After his retirement he formed his own food brokerage company dealing wholesale to manufactures. He was an active member in the YMCA business men's club for many years and an avid volleyball player. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anita and daughter, Anthea of Greenwich, CT; son, Christopher (Anne); and grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth of Tucson, AZ; and brother, Tom of Riverside, CA. Services were private and burial was in Putnam cemetery. There will be a memorial service on June 17 at the Greek Orthodox Church of our Savior, 2195 Westchester Ave. East, Rye, NY. VALE L. 'DOC' DOHERTY, 71, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2000 in Tucson, AZ. 'My heart is in Montana, but my home is in Tucson, long time cowboy, well respected member of the Cutting Horse Community. Doc always had a smile and a handshake. EVANS, Robert J., born on March 13, 1923 in Columbus, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on May 7, 2000 after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Alpha Evans; children, Robert Jr., William (Becky), Carol (Joe) Gardner, Stephen (Pam), Cathy (Vern) Jenkins, Mike (Pam); sister, Adelaide Davis; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Adelaide Evans; his father, Samuel Evans; and brother, Owen Evans. Robert enjoyed his Lord Jesus, family and life. FROEHLING, Louis Clarke, 67, died Tuesday April 18, 2000 at his home in Prescott Valley. He was born June 21, 1932, in Baltimore, Maryland, Louis T, and Bertha (Clarke) Froehling. Mr. Froehling was a longtime Tucson resident who attended Tucson High and served in the U.S. Navy for a brief time. He moved from Tucson to California in 1967, then moved to Prescott in 1982 where he was a member of the Smoki People. Louis has been a member of the B.P.O. Elks since 1975, where he served two terms as Esquire, one term as Esteemed Lecturing Knight, and volunteer.
Survivors include his son, Louis; daughters, Linda Cassidy and Melody Marini, all of Tucson; step-children Christie Wissinger of Tucson and Michael Candeleria, Prescott Valley; brothers, Gary Hohman of Stafford, VA, and Lee Hohman of Bowie, MD; sister, Bette Ann Garman of Houston, TX; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 6 pm Friday, May 12, at Christ Community Church, 7801 E. Kenyon Dr., Tucson.
POTTS, James C., 53, of Tucson, passed away May 6, 2000. Jim was born November 30, 1946 in Geneva, Illinois. He has resided in Tucson since 1964. He is survived by his parents, George Calvin and Edith Potts of Tucson; wife, Ellen Potts; son, Jonathan Potts, daughter, Emily Potts; brother, Rick Potts; sisters, Ginny Thiersch, Betsy Ajeman, Barbara Baker, Martha Potts-Bell and Nancy Potts. Numerous other family members also survive. A memorial service will be held in June at Tanque Verde Lutheran.
RUNDLE, William J., age 84, of Tucson, passed away May 7, 2000. He is preceded in death by his son, William David Rundle, and he is survived by his wife, Hilda; daughter, Mary (Jaci) Carr; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and sister, Elizabeth Ellis. Mr. Rundle was a life trustee at Tucson Medical Center, active in Rotary, and Habitat for Humanity. SCHIFANO, Isidoro, 97, died May 8, 2000. Father of Joseph (Ana) Schifano and Al Schifano; grandfather of Isadore, Joseph Matthew, Michael Isadore and Allyson Vita; great-grandfather of Anthony, Adam, Stephanie, Alyssa, Alexander and Benjamin. preceded in death by wife, Vita and daughter-in-law, Alice. He was a charter member of the Italian American Club. Isidoro was a resident of Tucson since 1945. He immigrated from Sicily to the United States in 1921 through Ellis Island. He worked in the auto industry in Detroit for 25 years before moving to Tucson in 1945 where he worked in the construction industry. He was recently honored by the Civano Corp by having a street name after him – Isidoro Schifano Lane in recognition of his being one of Tucsons pioneers in the development of the city. STIDHAM, Maryan G., 97, died April 12, 2000. preceded in death by her husbands, Alex J. Thompson and A.B. Stidham, both of Cochise County. Survived by daughter, Ellen (Rai) Quimby and son, Alex S. WESTER, Claire L., 89, of Tucson, passed away May 8, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Arlene G. Wasilowski of Tucson; her son, Gerald G. Olive Thompson (O.T.) Wood died peacefully at her home in Tucson on May 8, 2000. She joined her beloved husband Woodie late that morning. She has left behind their three children: one son, Scott (Joann) Wood of Amarillo, TX; and two daughters, Lynne Wood Dusenberry (Bruce) and Leigh Wood of Tucson; and three wonderful grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anna Thompson, who proudly bore their first born here. She grew up free and wild with her little sister Jody Thompson Owens (Dr. Sherwood Owens). She was a proud Wildcat receiving her Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Arizona in 1942, where she also lettered in Dance. She married
Woodie (Col. Allen H. Wood, USAF Ret.) in 1945 when he returned after serving in the Pacific during WWII. She was proud to be a Tucsonan and always added a western flavor to all military bases where Woodie was stationed. She wore squaw dresses to embassies and squash blossoms to the Officers' Wives Clubs. When Woodie retired from the Air Force they moved back home to Tucson where she worked for the City of Tucson until her retirement in 1986. She was deeply involved with the P.E.O. sisterhood and the Alumni Association of the College of Business and Public Administration at the U of A. Her services will be held at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, where she was married
, at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 12. She has left us but she is not gone; she will always be in our hearts. We love you, Mama, Scott, Lynno, Leigh, Jo, Bruce, Robin, Brett, Courtney, Mitzi and Maggie. DOW, Allison C., born August 10, 1913, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2000. He had been a Tucson resident for over 67 of his 86 years. He graduated from the U of A with an engineering degree and went on to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad Engineering Dept., Blanton and Cole Consulting Engineers and finished his career as the Assistant County Engineer for Pima County Highway Dept. He was a member of N.S.P.E. and served as Arizona State President of A.S.P.E. He is survived by his son, Richard A. Dow and his, wife Dorothy; grandson, Christopher M.
