HOUGHTON, Homer H., Col. Ret. USAF, born March 12, 1922 in Charleston, W. VA, lost his long battle with cancer May 14, 2000. His Air Force career spanned thirty-one years as a pilot and later in various missile programs. Survived by wife of fifty-six years, Helen; daughters, Diane Buzzell and Linda (Bill) Gutman all of Tucson, Julie (Jack) Babcock of Stonington, CT; three grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer (David) Buzzell King of Johnson City, TN, Sera and Sam Suminski of CT; one great-grandson, Tucker Frye. Since retirement Homer devoted much of his personal time in the White Mountains as an avid sportsman. PAYTON, Marie, 90, passed away gently on Thursday, May 11, 2000. She was born in Campbell, OH, lived in Akron and Cleveland, Ohio before moving to Detroit, MI where she retired from Farmington Hills Michigan School District as Cafeteria Manager in 1973 at which time she retired to Tucson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1993. Marie is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Doll and her son-in-law, George H. Doll; her son, Gilbert Payton; her granddaughter, Kristine Doll; her sister, Margaret Tompko of Poland, OH; her brothers, George Vrable of Ft. Myers, FL and Joseph Vrabel of Ft. Pierce, FL. Marie was an active member of St Cyril's, Udall and Armory Parks Senior Clubs before she retired to Villa Maria. Services will be held Wednesday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. at St Cyril's Church. RUCHOTZKE, Hugo L., 65, passed peacefully Sunday morning, May 14, 2000, surrounded by family members after a short hospitalization at Northwest Medical Center. Well-known and loved in the Sun City community, Hugo never let his life-long battle with muscular atrophy dull his passion for life or his sense of humor. Born in Green Island, Iowa, Hugo worked at Collins Radio, White Motor, and retired from the Toro Company of Bloomington, MN. He is survived by six siblings; loving and supportive wife, Dona; daughters, Debra (Donald) Ludemann and Sue (Karl) Self of Minnesota, as well as beloved grandchildren, Jessie and Tommy Self. A Memorial Service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran church, 11575 No. First Ave. at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
BLAIR W. SAYLOR - Born March 24, 1915 in Rockwood, PA and passed away on May 12, 2000. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert, and is survived by his wife, Thelma; son, Randall (Linda) of Sierra Vista; daughter, Sandra Lee Grenier of Tucson, Barbara Young (William) of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Blair graduated from Pennsylvania State College, Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School with a specialty in Otolaryngology. After serving in the Army during WW II in the US and the European Theatre, he moved to Tucson in 1946. He practiced medicine for 40 years at the Thomas Davis clinic, frequently serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He loved life, his family and friends, his practice of medicine and his patients. He was an active member of St. Mark's Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service and celebration of his life will be held at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. 3rd St., Saturday, May 20, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 5132 E. GLADYS FAYE BRADSHAW WELLING - At age 76, her beautiful spirit battled valiantly, but finally surrendered to her 50 year battle with MS, so she could be an angel with the Lord, and be with her husband of 55 years, Dale, who preceded her in death. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Gladys managed to live a wonderful and fulfilling life in spite of the many obstacles she faced. She had the ability to always make the best of her situation, and her bright, sunny spirit inspired everyone she came in contact with. She will always be remembered for her love of her family and her friends. She gave us all such inspiration and guidance and taught us the importance of patience and strength throughout her life. She was very creative and talented, and loved most of all to dance when she was a young woman. We know you and Dad are dancing in each other's arms tonight, Mom, and we will love you both forever. HAEGER, Leila Gladys, passed away May 15, 2000. Born October 27, 1911. preceded in death by husband, Otto E. Survived by sons, Ernie (Chris), Larry (Robin) and Allen (Diane); grandchildren, Eric, Penny, Heather, Sandy and Samantha; brother, Ralph (Geri) Allison. Mrs. Haeger was a retired teacher whose loving care touched over thousands of young children in over 40 years of teaching Headstart, kindergarten and first grade including 20 years with Tucson Unified School District. She started her career as a teacher in a one room school house in Iowa. Friends and family alike turned to her for support, comfort, wisdom and love. She will be greatly missed. JOSEPH GILBERT MIRELES - Born December 10, 1968, entered eternal life on May 13 2000. He was a native of Tucson, Arizona. SNIDER, Lova Mae, 84, of Tucson, went to meet the Lord peacefully in her sleep, on Saturday, May 13, 2000. Lova is preceded in death by her infant son, Larry, and more recently her precious daughter, Sharon Herrington. She is survived by her loving husband, Carl; daughter, Joy Dellinger; sons, Joe and Jerry; ten grandchildren; 19.3 great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles, Dick and Judd Thompson; and many other loving family and friends.
Lova was born in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, and moved to Tucson in 1945 where she and Carl raised their family. Lova worked for the Sunnyside School District and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years.
