BERNARD (BEN) J. KOPPY - Born Bernard Kopczynski on June 9, 1922 passed away June 16, 2000 of cancer. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; sons, Karl of Houston, TX, Brian (Kathy) of Tucson, Donald (Donna) of St. Louis, MO; and nine grandchildren.
Originally from Detroit, MI, Ben was a Tucson resident for the past 23 years. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII. He was a cigar salesman and an accordionist. He was a member of the Tucson Polish Club, Elks, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, as well as active in the Jacob's YMCA and a charter member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date.

PORTALATIN, Carmen, 90, of Tucson, Arizona passed away June 18, 2000. She was born June 09, 1910 in Manati, Puerto Rico. She is preceded in death by her husband Joaquin Portalatin. She is survived by two daughters, Anna Maria Rivera and Yolanda Pellon; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Anna Santino; and two nieces. HARRIS, Lillian Marie, born July 12, 1923 in Long Beach, California, resident of Tucson since 1953, passed away June 14, 2000, after a brief illness, in Tulsa, OK. A loving wife of 55 years to Robert 'Bob', who predeceased her on January 12, 2000. Beloved mother to four children, Richard (Karen Stapf-Harris) of AK, Robert 'Gordo' (Mary Noble) of Australia, Steven of Tucson, Lynne (David) Gurthet of OK, and Myrna Harris-Howell of Oracle, AZ and Yolanda Curon of Tucson; grandchildren Richard, Staci, Randall, Nathan, Greene, Golden Moon, Steven, Jennifer, Charles and Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hazel Tracy of Margate City, NJ; numerous nephews and nieces, including Kathy Sanders. Lillian's many dear and helpful friends include neighbor Virginia McCreery and childhood friend, Lorraine Thompson Swain. Predeceased by father, C.F. 'Fred' Wells; mother, Elizabeth; and sister, Alice McInturff. Graduated Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif., Honored Queen of the Long Beach Bethel of Job's Daughters. B.A. in Botany, University of Arizona, 1968 and member of Phi Kappa Phi academic honorary. Lillian raised four children and had a hand in raising many others. Her house was always open. She loved gardening, mystery books, sports, camping, fishing and travel. Lillian and Bob traveled over 250, 000 miles by rail. Played tennis for 10 years with 'The Wednesday Bunch', an ardent U of A Wildcat supporter particularly as a football fan and season ticket holder for 46 years. Long time Pima County election precinct worker. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Tulsa's Saint Francis Hospital and Hospice. No formal services planned. HEILE, Gladys S., 96, died June 18, 2000. Gladys was born March 23, 1904 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Grace and Loren Shaw. She was a registered nurse in her younger years. Gladys was preceded in death by husbands, Charles B. Sand and Elmore B. Heile. Survived by sister, Fern M. Curtis; nieces, Kathleen (Ted) Holmes, Maxine (Gerry) Ault; nephew, Bill (Cheryl) Curtis; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. THOMPSON, Oscar I. Born September 23, 1923 in Lovington, NM to Denver and Bea (Merchant) Thompson. passed away June 20, 2000. Survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean; his loving little dog, Murphy Brown both of Tucson; sister, Doris Schuster of Ohio; brother, Richard (Joan) Thompson of NM; niece Phyllis (John) Weller, their children Amanda and James; nephews, John (Mary) Cooksey, their children Matya and Noah, Bruce (Pam) Cooksey; aunt, Dorothy Merchant Shoults; and oh so many, many dear friends from every place he lived and worked. JOHN E. BUNCH an Arizona Native from Elko, Nevada and formerly of San Manuel, AZ, age 63, passed away June 22, 2000. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, papa, teacher, coach, miner, and a cowboy. He was the safety director at Cortez Gold mine and also taught at San Manuel High School for 28 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Ralphie; his children, Michael (Tami) of Tucson and Bagdad, AZ, Jerry (Sandi) of Tucson, AZ, Trace (Angie) of Colorado Springs, CO, Kelly (Tom) Bley of Las Vegas, NV, and Kori (John) Brown of Elko, NV; and his 14 beautiful grandchildren. He devoted much of his life mentoring and helping young students prepare for their future. He was a caring individual and a strong family man who enjoyed the outdoors. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and horseback riding.
