DANNY L. CRAIN, 53, passed peacefully from this life on July 5, 2000. He was a person of great courage who showed tremendous strength throughout his illness, fighting his battle with courage and dignity and grace.
He was a 1964 graduate of Palo Verde High School.
Danny was employed by Tucson Newspapers, Inc. for the past 32 years until his illness forced him into an early retirement, retiring in the position of Production Maintenance Manager. While employed there, he won many awards such as Employee of the Year, Customer Connection Award and was a member of the President Club. He was an avid sportsman who loved the beauty of nature and the outdoors. He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him greatly. His wife of 35 years, Susan; sons, Danny Crain, Jr., (Lydia), Bryon Crain (Stephanie); as well as his beloved grandchildren, Clayton, Trevor and Sydney. Also survived by his mother, Mae Crain; brothers, David (Valerie), Charles (Lori); sisters, Paulette Langan (John), and Lynette Tucker. Also survived by his in-laws, nieces and nephews and the extended Quayle family. He leaves behind a wealth of wonderful, supportive, caring friends who were like family through his illness and to you, we give our love and appreciation.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Father Harry Hedwith presiding.

DOOLITTLE, Jennie Fae, 82, of Tucson, died July 4, 2000. She is survived by her children, David (Candas) Doolittle of Tucson, Margie (Melvin) Cunningham of Tucson, and Steven Doolittle of Marina del Rey, CA; grandchildren, Phyllis (Donald) McGhee, Troy (Pam) Doolittle, Gary Doolittle, Wendy Doolittle, Kevin Doolittle, Kathy (Deano) Mirabal, Lisa (David) Ostrander, and Bree Cunningham; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Edith Marxen of Kansas City, KS, Fern Moss of Olathe, KS and Dortha Burgess of Omaha, AR. FRAZER, Frank H. died July 3, 2000 in Tucson, Arizona. He was 74.
The son of J.D. and Hazel Frazer, Frank was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 17, 1926, and lived in Minneapolis until the late 1930's when his family moved to Southern California.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was severely wounded in Okinawa, and after recuperating from his injuries attended Pomona College in Southern California. Frank married
Ellen Luedtke in 1958 and they returned to Minnesota, where he entered the hardware business, and worked in a variety of positions for many years.
After retiring, Frank and Ellen divided their time between homes in Tucson, Arizona and Stone Lake, Wisconsin. At Lake Sissabagama in Wisconsin, he was responsible for securing a large wooded island open space for the use of local residents, and ensuring its preservation in years to come. He loved travel in foreign countries, such as Jamaica, Turkey, England, Germany, and spending time with Ellen and their many friends in Arizona, California, and Wisconsin.
Frank was preceded in death by his sisters Betty and Jean; his brother Ray; and his son, Alex. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his son, Walter, his sister, Julie Maxeiner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a memorial service to be held July 10, 2000, 10:00 a.m. at St. Bede's Anglican Church, 1135 W. Ina Rd., Tucson, AZ. Graveside services at the family plot in Minneapolis are pending. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Sarver Heart Center, P.O. GORDON, Jane died in Kent, Washington on June 23, 2000, at the home of her daughter. Born March 29, 1927, in Franklin, Kentucky. Graduated from Franklin High School. Married Fred Stegall in Kansas in 1946; he died in 1966. Resided in Galesburg, Illinois until 1969. Moved to Tucson, Arizona. Married Robert Gordon in 1970 in Tucson where they owned and operated the JoAnn Court Motel. He died in 1997. She was employed by American Red Cross Blood Services, Tucson. Survived by two daughters, Barb Devena, Galesburg, IL. and Sue Wenigman, Kent, Washington; four grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held July 21, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at Church of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Tucson. Memorials may be made to the Arizona Red Cross Donor Services or Hospice of Seattle.
MAULER, Vernon Joseph, 77, died July 4, 2000. Husband of Patricia Mauler; father of Deborah Kathryn (Tom) LaBine of Green Bay, WI, Mark Joseph (Cheryl) Mauler of Mesa, AZ, Sheila Lynn (Peter) Butterbrodt and Martha Ruth Price, both of Tucson; grandfather of Nick and Scott, Erinn and Linsey, Megan and Sarah and Jessica. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret 'Peggy' Mauler. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Services will be held at a later date at the Santa Catalina Catholic Mission, 14380 N. McCULLY, Gerald (Jerry) R., husband of Verna Van Loan passed away July 6, 2000. Born in Warren, Ohio, on February 3, 1935. Jerry moved to Tucson in 1984. For the last 15 years, Jerry and Verna enjoyed a very special marriage of love, companionship, fun and many trips to Scotland, where his ashes will be interred at Gairloch, Wester Ross. His great Irish sense of humor will live on in all of us. Jerry is survived by Verna, his wife; three children, Klea McCully, Kurt McCully (Michelle) and Kelly (Neal) Chestnut, all from Columbus, Ohio; three stepchildren, Steve Van Loan (Elizabeth), Tucson, Glenn Van Loan (Kathy), Tucson and Doug Van Loan (Leigh), Phoenix; by his loving sister Peggy McAleer from Florida; ten loving grandchildren and a niece and nephew. Memorial services to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on July 8, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Chapel, 4100 Sabino Canyon Road, Tucson.

PAULINE CORRELL MITCHELL, 78, native of the Old Pueblo, died July 3, 2000. Born December 29, 1921, she was the second of four children of Paul Poe Correll and Zilpha Hager Correll. preceded in death by her husband, William A. Mitchell, Jr., and by her sisters, Nan Sowerwine and Zilpha Hamilton; she is survived by her brother Paul Correll of Tucson, her children Dr. Bill Mitchell of Chapel Hill, NC, Douglas (Sally Jo) Mitchell of Tucson, Barbara Mitchell (Jurgen Herweg) of Olalla, WA, her ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Pauline was a graduate of Tucson High School (1939) and attended the University of Arizona. She was a past president of the Tucson Junior League and a former member of the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women. Following her husband's second retirement, they moved to Key Colony Beach, FL where they continued their longstanding enjoyment of skin diving and water skiing begun with their children. Following her husband's death there in 1976, she served on the Key Colony Beach city council.
Pauline returned to the company of old friends in Tucson in 1979, and to the readily available support of her son, Doug and daughter-in-law, Sally Jo. Over the next several decades, Pauline enjoyed a widening circle of friends through her support of the arts as well as her own career as a pottery artist. During the last decade of her life, she developed additional friendships through the Tucson Medical Center water exercise group, through her interest in energy healing and through the Circle of Grandmothers which often met in her home.
The last year of her life was particularly enriched by her transformation of her yard into a self-sustaining desert garden, and by her rekindled romance with her old high school beau, Rex Thompson of San Anselmo, CA. Following an unexpected several month illness, she died peacefully at home looking out on her garden – cared for by her family and others who loved her. Grateful for her love and the example of her life, we mourn her passing.
A memorial service will be held for her Saturday, July 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel at East Lawn cemetery. There will be a reception at the Arizona Inn from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to your favorite art or charitable organization.
MOORE, Alvin O., 80, of Tucson, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000. Mr. Moore is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Larry) Lebofsky; and granddaughter, Miranda Lebofsky all of Tucson; beloved in-laws, Ruth and Samuel Sampson; nieces; grandnieces and grandnephew of Georgia; and cousin, Elaine Carlton of Florida. PERALTA, Juana M. went to our Lord June 24, 2000 at the age of 97, in her daughter's home in Santa Clara, CA. preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan C. Peralta. Survived by her son, Louis (Evelyn); daughters, Jorgina Drake and Triny Peralta; sister, Carmen Suarez; brother, Julio Minjares; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. SANCHEZ, Antonio C., 74, of Tucson, passed away July 1, 2000. preceded in death by parents, Viviano and Adela Sanchez; four brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren. Survived by wife of 53 years, Eva U. Sanchez; daughter, Rosemary (Mark) Templeton; sons, Frank (Linda), Eddie (Jean), Willie, Larry, Hector, and Richard (Cynthia); sister, Frances (David) Zaragoza; also survived by 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Antonio served his country proudly in WWII. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. SHANK, Lenabelle, 78, of Tucson. Went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2000 after fighting a long, hard battle. She was born in Universal, Indiana on December 7, 1921. preceded in death by sister, Bea; and twin brothers, Bob and Earl. Survived by husband, Wayne; son, Cliff, two sisters, Helen Pickrell and Joann (Hal) Ward; brother, Byron (Mary) Graves; and several nieces and nephews. She was active in her church groups, a member of the Eastern Star and the Engineers Wives Auxiliary. TYRRELL, Olive Ruth, born September 10, 1914 in Monroe, Minnesota, passed away July 5, 2000. She is preceded in death by her husband, Scott Edward Tyrrell. During her 35 year career she taught in Pierre, South Dakota and from 1956 – 1978 she taught in the Flowing Wells School District and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. BURBECK, Annette Cocklin, 65, went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2000. She is preceded in death by her first husband, David Cocklin; and son, Terry Cocklin. She is survived by her husband, Paul A. Burbeck; daughter, Pamela (Martin) Hansen; grandchildren, Hunter and Cody Hansen; step-children, Ronda Sampson, Mike and Eddie Burbeck.
Annette was an active member of the Elks Club and owned her own business, Cocklin and Gentry Tax Service, for many years. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. Her hobbies included reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and making others feel loved and appreciated. Her smile and laugh will forever be imprinted on the hearts of those she loved and touched.
