Gildardo S. Renteria
Nov. 20, 1929 - Sept. 25, 1999
Gildardo S. Renteria, also known as Gil and Cuate, age 69, of Bisbee, Ariz., died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Copper Queen Community Hospital in Bisbee. He was a very well-known Bisbee resident.
Mr. Renteria was born Nov. 20, 1929, in Bisbee, the son of Ysauro and Ana (Serrano) Renteria. He marriage Ramona Figueroa on Oct. 31, 1968.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korea War and the Vietnam War. During his military career he toured Germany, Japan and Korea and also served one tour with the 1st Calvary Division of which he was very proud. Gil served as a dietitian for President Dwight D. Eisenhower and retired after 21 years of service as a staff sergeant. During that time he received numerous honors and citations.
Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for the Department of Corrections, worked several years as a dietitian and cook at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center, and was also employed by the Douglas Port of Entry. His hobbies included an interest in gems and minerals.
He was a most loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was loved by everyone and saw everyone as a part of his family.
Gildardo is survived by his wife, Ramona of Bisbee; one son, Joe (Ruby) Renteria of Colorado; five daughters, Angelica Renteria of Colorado, Rosita Anita Weinrich of Germany, Carmen Renteria (Norman Davis) of Tucson, Ramona Renteria (Fernando Figuero) of Bisbee, Marisol Renteria (Dustin Lewis) of Bisbee; his father, Ysauro Renteria of Bisbee; five brothers, Arturo, Gilbert and Eddie Renteria both of Bisbee, Richard Renteria of San Diego, Alfonso Renteria of Sierra Vista; a sister, Josephine Ruter of Sierra Vista; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many honorary grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ana in December 1982 and one son, Michael, in 1997.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Dugan Funeral Chapel. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday after the visitation at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick Church.
Mass of the Resurrection will be said on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church with Father Stanley Nadolny officiating. Interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Bisbee, with military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard at Fort Huachuca.
Mr. Renteria will be honored at the upcoming Gem and Mineral Show in Bisbee, the weekend of Oct. 9.
Arrangements are with Dugan Funeral Chapel in Bisbee.

William Bill Whitney
May 29, 1925 - Sept. 27, 1999
William Bill Whitney, 74, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. He had been a resident for the past 15 years.
Bill was born May 29, 1925, in Salt Lake City to Clyde and Golda Whitney. Bill moved to East Los Angeles, Calif., at an early age. He joined the Army in 1942. His first duty station was in Dundee, Scotland, where he was trained by the British Commando for Darbys Rangers. The 1st Ranger battalion. He served in the Army for more than 20 years, retiring in 1965. He was the superintendent of linen at Fort Carson, Colo., until he retired from civil service in 1976. He was preceded in death by a son, William G. Whitney in 1965.
Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly J. Whitney of Sierra Vista; daughter Geri (Jon) Hutchinson of Clarkston, Wash.; a son, Kyle (Kim) Whitney of Vista, Calif.; three step daughters, Carol (John) Seffern of Lyndon, Wash., Joanne Aucoin of Edmonds, Wash., and Marilyn Ward of Krikland Wash.; and 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Hatfield Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. A time of visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will follow at Cochise Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
Arrangements are by Hatfield Funeral Home Inc. in Sierra Vista.

Mary Amaro Nunez
March 6, 1926 - Sept. 28, 1999
Mary Amaro Nunez, 73, of Brawley, Calif., died from a lengthy illness on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley, Calif.
She was born March 6, 1926, in Bisbee, Ariz. She was also raised in Bisbee. Mary and Ramon R. Nunez were marriage on Aug. 30, 1974, in La Puenta, Calif. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1996. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life, but worked for several years at El Minuto Tortilla Factory in Bisbee. She was a member of St. Patricks parish in Bisbee. After her marriage they moved to Brawley, Calif. She remained a very active person and was an excellent cook.
Mrs. Nunez is survived by her daughters, Anna Marie Salomon of Bisbee, Jeanne (Alex) Montoy of Bisbee and Carmen Valencia of Holtville, Calif.; stepsons Ray Nunez Jr. of McCleary, Wash., and Ruben Nunez of McCleary, Wash.; stepdaughters, Barbara Morton of McCleary, Wash., Monica Aguirre of Globe, Ariz., Terri Warner of McCleary, Wash., and Christina Verdugo of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the youngest and last survivor of 12 children.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1250 B Street, Brawley, Calif. with Father Jorge Moreno officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Frye Chapel, Brawley, Calif. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Brawley, Calif. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Frye Chapel, Brawley, Calif.
A Memorial Mass will be scheduled in Bisbee at a later date.
Arrangements are by Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley, Calif.

Dana Nicole Beam
May 5, 1979 - Oct. 8, 1999
Dana Nicole Beam, 20, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 1999. She had been an area resident for the past 18 years.
Dana was born May 5, 1979, in Omaha, Neb., to Joseph and Geraldine (Merold) Beam. Growing up in the Sierra Vista area, she attended Sierra Vista Middle School, Buena High School and graduated from PPEP TEC in 1998.
After graduation, she attended Eastern Arizona College and worked at Barnett and Delaneys. Dana also worked for Cochise Eye and Laser, Sears Optical, Sears Portrait Studio and the Sage Brush. She was an accomplished photographer and artist, and she won the heart of every person she met.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, Joseph and Janice Beam of Sierra Vista; her mother, Gerry Beam of Broadview Heights, Ohio; two brothers, Brad and Erik Beam both of Tucson, Ariz.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hatfield Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at 1 p.m. at Hatfield Memorial Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dana's name to the Forgach House, Domestic Crisis Shelter, P.O. Box 1961, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635.

Kyong Suk Dillon
Nov. 15, 1956 - Oct. 9, 1999
Kyong Suk Dillon, 42, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999. She had been an area resident for the past five years.
Kyong was born Nov. 15, 1956, in Sangju, Korea, to Mun Hwa and Tae Sun (Kim) Oh. Since arriving in Sierra Vista five years ago, Kyong has been highly active in the local performing arts community. She was a strong supporter of musical education in Southern Arizona and an ardent fan of the Sierra Vista Ballet. She was also an active member of Holy Family Parish.
Kyong never won any public awards but she was the most loving, hardworking and dedicated mother and wife possible. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Henry J. Dillon, Jr.; a daughter, Tamara Michelle Dillon; siblings, Oh, Kyong Sun of Seoul, Korea; Oh, Sei Dong of Chongju, Korea, and Oh, Sei Ik of Seoul, Korea. She also is survived by her parents, Oh, Mun Hwan and Tae Sun of Ulsan, Korea.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Main Post Chapel, Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa, Ariz.

Dale Lee Williamson
Aug. 6, 1947 - Oct. 9, 1999
Dale Lee Williamson, 52, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at home in Mescal, Ariz. Dale was born Aug. 6, 1947, in Indianapolis to William V. and Virginia P. Mock Williamson. He came to Arizona 30 years ago and worked as an electrician. He had been a member of the Moose Lodge in Sierra Vista, Ariz. Dale served his country in the U.S. Army.
Those who survive him are: his parents, Bill and Virginia of Mescal (Benson), Ariz.; son, Dale Lee Jr. of Kentucky; son, Kevin of Louisiana; daughter, Tammy Joe of Georgia; daughter, Cathy of Indiana; daughter, Jackie Angel of Missouri; daughter, Crystal Gayle Williamson of Oregon; brother, David Earl (Paula) of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Susan Kay Crowe (John) of Louisiana; sister, Janice Elaine Williamson of Louisiana; and 10 grandchildren.
Cremation has been selected as final disposition. Arrangements through the Bisbee/San Pedro Funeral Homes.

Antonio Cesar Salomon
Feb. 8, 1942 - Oct. 12, 1999
Antonio Cesar Salomon, 57, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999. He had been an area resident for the past 14 years.
Antonio was born Feb. 8, 1942, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was raised and also attended university in the Dominican Republic. He marriage Migdalia in 1966, the same year he joined the military. He was an active member of the military serving as a sergeant first class and working as a chef. He was transferred to the Sierra Vista area in 1985. After retiring in 1987, he worked for NAF at the La Hacienda Club on Fort Huachuca as a chef.
Antonio was one of a kind. He was always there to help anyone in need. He was a loving father and a great friend to all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Migdalia Salomon; his two children, Cesar Anthony Salmon and Karin Altaberia Salomon; four sisters, Aura Ruiz, Dulce Salomon, Frangie Croslin and Altabeira Salomon; three grandchildren, Cesar Anthony Salomon II, Jasmin Alicia Salomon and Don Antonio Salomon.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at Hatfield Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at the Main Post Chapel on Fort Huachuca. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18.

Melvin L. Fischer
Oct. 18, 1941 - Oct. 2, 1999
Melvin L. Fischer, 57, former resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., since 1980, passed away Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, in Columbia, S.C.
Melvin was born Oct. 18, 1941, in Detroit, Mich., to Harry and Harriet Fischer. He joined the Army at an early age serving over 20 years before retiring in 1983.
Melvin was an owner of many businesses in the Sierra Vista area. He sold and retired from business and moved to the San Carlos, Ariz., area in early 1990. He had recently moved to Camden, S.C. to start a business prior to his untimely death. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Fischer and her family and grandchildren; two sons, Lance and Neal, both residing in Tucson.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 18, at the Post Cemetery on Fort Huachuca with full military honors.

Rosemarie J. Phillips
Sept. 3, 1926 - Oct. 12, 1999
Rosemarie J. Phillips, 73, longtime resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center.
Rosemarie was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Lawrence and Mary Marr. As a child, Rosemarie lived on Fort Huachuca where her parents were employed. She graduated from Bisbee High School.
She is a graduate of the University of Arizona and the Gradwohl School of Medical Technology in St. Louis. She was a commercial pilot in and around the Flagstaff, Ariz., area during the late 1950s and early 1960s. She worked at the Navajo Army Depot outside Flagstaff up until it was closed and then transferred to Fort Huachuca.
She is survived by three sons, Harley, Larry and Richard; daughters-in-law, Debbie and Sandy; and grandchildren, Kristen, Shelly, Erin, Stacy and Branden.
A time of visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at the Hatfield Funeral Home Inc.
Memorial contributions may be made in Rosemarie's name to the Sierra Vista Lions Club Eye Bank, PO Box 1147, Sierra Vista AZ 85636.

Minnie Thomas
May 31, 1917 - Oct. 15, 1999
Minnie Thomas, 82, passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, in Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Minnie was born May 31, 1917, in West Liberty, Ky. She came to Arizona from Kentucky in 1939. Her parents were Jack Shaver and Josephine Parks Shaver. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include son, Edward I. Thomas (Marsha) of Hereford; her sisters, Edna Calvert of Sierra Vista and Daisy Ballinger of Indiana and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Bisbee Funeral Home. Pastor Dale Stoner of the Palominas Church will officiate.
