Salvador Miranda
Mr. Salvador Miranda, 82, passed away April 19, 1999, at his residence.
A Yuma native, Mr. Miranda was born December 25, 1916. A life-long Yuma resident, he attended Yuma schools.
Mr. Miranda was a retired heavy equipment operator/foreman for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Survivors include his son Louis A. Miranda of Yuma; two sisters, Dora Benzor of Yuma, and Rosie Esparza of Covina, Calif.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Soraiza Miranda, son Salvador Miranda Jr., and parents Juan and Rosa Miranda.
A wake will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 22, at Johnson Mortuary, with rosary at 7 p.m.
Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 23, 1999, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with clergy of the church officiating.
Interment will be in Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers include Joe and Chris Esparza, Robert Miranda, Greg Hazell, Ernie and Eduardo Macazan.
Honorary pallbearers Angel Quintero, Ray and Gilbert Martinez, and John Aguilar.

Verner Winston Wilkerson Sr.
Mr. Verner "Lucky" Winston Wilkerson Sr. passed away April 15, 1999.
A Wellton resident, Mr. Wilkerson was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Wilkerson retired as a Master Floorcovering Specialist.
Survivors include wife Dottie Wilkerson; daughters Betty Louise Emberling; sons Verner Winston Jr. and Dorrance Winston; sisters Helen Wilson, Bernice Reed, Gwenyth Surber, and Clarice Keeton; six grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Julia WIlkerson, and brothers Fred and Alfred Wilkerson.
Memorial services are pending in Wellton.

Lois E. Jeffery
Mrs. Lois E. Jeffery, 76, passed away April 20, 1999, at her residence.
A Yuma resident for 12 years, Mrs. Jeffery was born May 29, 1922, in McGregor, Texas.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Terry J. and Cindy Jeffery of Tucson, Robert Lee II and Linda Jeffery, and Billy D. and Linda Jeffery, all of Phoenix; daughter Pamela Dewey of Yuma; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Lee Jeffery, and daughter Tanya Martelli.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Kammann Mortuary with the Chaplain Ray Mitchell officiating.

Isabel Pinzon
Isabel Castro de Pinzon, 79, a resident of Yuma since 1987, passed away April 19, 1999.
Ms. Pinzon was born in La Republica de Panama on July 8, 1919. She retired from Hospital Santo Tomas in Panama and since then she continued with her sewing and arts and crafts. She enjoyed entertaining family, friends, salsa/merengue music, dancing, and photos.
Survivors include sons Jorge Antonio Pinzon Castro of Yuma, and Javier Pinzon Castro of Panama; daughter and son-in-law Nelly and Cyril Atherton of Yuma; eight brothers and six sisters, all of Panama; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Wake will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Johnson Mortuary, with rosary at 7 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, April 26, 1999, at the Immaculate Conception Church.
Final resting place will be in Desert Lawn Memorial Park.

Richard "Dick" Schomaker
Dick Schomaker, 65, passed away April 4, 1999, at his home in Mesa, after a short, but severe illness.
Dick was a Yuma resident for over 15 years and an IBM computer technician for over 31 years.
Survivors include wife Suzi of the home; sons Bruce of Petaluma, Calif., Fred of Sacramento, Calif., Richard of Yuma, and William of Moreno Valley, Calif.; daughter Julia Shanders of Portland, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.
No services are planned.
Dick requested that contributions be made to his favorite charity, RTA Hospice, Inc., 1102 E. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85006, whose assistance in his care was invaluable, and greatly appreciated by his family and friends.
Dick was a great husband, father, and grandfather, but especially a great friend. He will be missed.
Apodaca-Garate
Valentina E., age 5, born August 6, 1993, and Sabrina M., age 2, born August 10, 1996, passed away Monday, April 12, 1999. Both were born in San Diego, California.
Survivors include their father Ignacio Garate and mother Judith Apodaca; grandparents Jeannette and Jerry Apodaca; aunts Bernadette (Joe) Cosmano, and Milinda Apodaca, all of San Diego, Calif.; and great-grandparents Inez and Cecilia Apodaca and Jennie Olea Reger, all of Yuma.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 19, 1999, at El Camino Memorial Park (1-800-352-2646) and funeral mass Monday, April 19, 1999, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church (619-271-0207).
A trust fund has been set up in Judith's name at Vons Employee Credit Union for the children (619-496-4496).
Dorothy Dunn
Dorothy Dunn, 91, passed away April 16, 1999, at La Mesa Care Center in Yuma.
Mrs. Dunn was born February 11, 1908, in Lexington, Illinois.
After being employed for 35 years at Melody Cleaners, she retired.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Linda (James) Dingley of Yuma; grandchildren David and Staci Dingley, both of Yuma, Steve (Theresa) Dunn of Idaho, and Stuart (Caroline) Dunn of Tempe; great-grandchildren Claren, Haley, and Dustin Dunn, all of Idaho, and Garrett and Ellen Dunn, all of Tempe. She was preceded in death by husband Curtis Dunn Sr., and sons Curtis Dunn Jr. and Lyle L. Dunn.
There will be a private service at a later date.

Billie Francis
Billie Francis, 70, passed away Thursday, April 15, 1999, at Yuma Regional Medical Center.
A Yuma native, Billie was born on July 23, 1928. She was the daughter of Albert and Mary Lou Smith, who farmed in Somerton & Bard. Billie marriage Harry Francis Jr. on November 1, 1948, in Yuma.
Billie was a cosmetologist owning and operating The Fashionette Beauty Salon, until she retired 1963. Billie was also an artist, graduating from AWC with honors with a degree in art in 1982. She truly enjoyed her creativity and enjoyed showing her work whenever possible.
Billie is survived her children, Phyllis and David Bettincourt of Yuma, Michael and Barbara Francis of Austin, Texas, Robert Francis and Kay Ewy of Tucson; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Billie's life will be held at 2:30 pm, Monday, April 19, 1999, at Sunset Vista Funeral Home. She was a gift to be shared for a while, a loving mother who will be greatly missed by her family.
Billie was honored to have one of her pictures chosen for the cover of the Hospice cookbook, she always remembered and was thankful for their help with her husband Harry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. 8th Ave., in her memory.
SCOTT BENTON COLE
Our beloved son, brother, companion and friend, Scott Benton Cole, age 34, passed away October 5, 1999, in Phoenix, Arizona, after an extended illness. Scott was born August 31, 1965, in Yuma, Arizona. Scott was educated in the Yuma area schools, attending Pecan Grove Elementary School, Fourth Avenue Junior High and graduated from Yuma High School in 1983. He also attended Eastern Arizona Community College.
Scott is survived by his father and step-mother, Tom and Pamela Cole; his mother, Helen Joyce Minnich; sister, Toby Cole and Cheryl Rademacher, and her husband Kevin; aunts and uncles, Skip and Susie Tandy of Provo, Utah, Donald and Jacque Edwards, James and Jan Edwards, and Jack Edwards, and long time friend and companion, Donald Murders, all of Phoenix, Arizona. Scott also enjoyed and cared deeply for a large extended family which includes lots of loving great aunts and uncles, cousins and family friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his brother, Brent Thomas Cole; cousin, John Patrick Tandy; his beloved aunt, Rita Reese; and his grand parents, D.C. and Faye Benton Cole and Key and Theresa Edwards.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 8, 1999, at 10;00 A.M., at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 16th Street and 14th Avenue, Yuma, Arizona, Rev. Thomas A. Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. A private viewing for family will be held Thursday, October 7, 1999, 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at Kammann Mortuary (Yuma).
All of Scott's family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the many wonderful people who assisted in Scott's care and who have expressed their sorrow and prayers. GOLDIE MABLE DALTON
Goldie Mable Dalton, 75, passed away September 30,1999 in North Richland Hills, Texas. She was born July 11, 1924 in Yuma, Arizona.
Mrs. Dalton retired in 1986 after 35 years as a Operations Officer with the First Interstate Bank of Arizona.
Surviors include son, John M. Dalton of Fort Worth. Daughter-in-law, Elaine Dalton Lindsey of Yuma, Arizona. Brother, Jim Berry of San Diego, California. She also leaves five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, David T. Dalton, her parents, her sister, and two brothers.
Memorial services will be held Saturday October 9, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Yuma, Arizona. Burial place will be in Yuma, Arizona.
