Alvern Crosby Hewitt
Al Hewitt, 76, of Dewey, Arizona died Thursday, March 16, 2000 at his home in Dewey. He was born on Thursday, May 3, 1923 in Otranto Township, Iowa; the son of Charles and Olga (Nelson) Hewitt
Life Experiences :
Al grew up in Iowa and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He marriage his first wife, Margery Ann Brown in July of 1943. Margery, the mother of his children, died in October of 1991. On February 14, 1997, Al marriage Frances Marguerite Sandlin and they shared three years together. Al worked for many years as Comptroller for Armour in Mason City, Iowa, and other locations. He retired in 1980 and moved to Mesa from St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1983 and to Dewey in 1998. Al was a member of Velda Rose United Methodist Church in Mesa and later Prescott United Methodist Church in Prescott. He enjoyed traveling, working with stained glass, and singing in the church choir.

Frances his loving and caring wife of three years.

Elizabeth Henry Bruhn
92, of Tucson, passed away on December 12, 1997. She was born in San Francisco on March 7, 1905, to James Buchanan Henry Jr. and Mary McClaughry Henry. Mrs. Bruhn was the great-granddaughter of James Buchanan Henry, nephew of and personal secretary to President James Buchanan.
Mrs. Bruhn's father was an officer in the U.S. Army's cavalry, and the family lived in many parts of the United States as well as in the Philippines. Some of Mrs. Bruhn's fondest memories were of Columbus, New Mexico, and Manila.
Mrs. Bruhn graduated from the University of Arizona in 1927 with a B.A. in journalism and French. After teaching in Tombstone for a year, she returned to Tucson, where she taught high school for several years. She then obtained an M.A. in Spanish from the U of A, where she taught for nearly 20 years in the Spanish department, retiring in 1956 as a tenured professor. During the mid-1950's she pursued doctoral studies at Columbia University.
She marriage the late Henry H. Bruhn, a mining engineer, in 1956, and they lived in Carlsbad, N.M., and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, before returning to Tucson in 1960.
Mrs. Bruhn continued to live here after her husband's death and was active in her bridge club, book club, and sorority ``lunch bunch." She was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.
She is survived by her nephew James Buchanan Henry IV of Austin, TX, her nieces Mary Catherine Henry of Chicago and Elizabeth Eleanor Henry, also of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her stepdaughter Mary Ann Douglas of Midland, TX, stepson John David Bruhn of Clemmons, NC, stepdaughter Shawn Alexis Edgar of Tucson, step-grandson Michael Henry Armstrong of Aberdeen, WA, and three step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bruhn spent her life seeing only the best in the people around her and finding joy in life. Her gentle presence will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held January 24, 1998, atCARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, 204 South Stone, at 1:00 p.m. in the Central Chapel.
Henry Kozlowski
Henry Kozlowski, 77, of Prescott Valley, Arizona died March 11, 2000 at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott. He was born on November 30, 1922 in Poland the son of : Felix and Angelique Kozlowski
Life Experiences :
Henry served in the Second World War with the allies serving in Europe. He met and later marriage Margaret Kapalchik on December 28, 1961. Henry worked for Stroh’s Brewing Company for ten years as a checker and retired in 1985. In February 1991 Henry and Margaret moved to Prescott Valley from Rochester Hills, Michigan. Henry was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, he loved to read anything concerning World War II as well as the histories of all of the nations. Henry loved to travel and visited all of Europe and Asia except Australia which he planned to visit. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his vegetables and flowers which he would share with his neighbors.

Dwayne L. Frayne
Cottonwood resident and U.S. Army veteran Dwayne Frayne died May 26 in Prescott.
He was 67 years old.
Mr. Frayne was born June 26, 1932 in Bisbee.
He worked as an automobile mechanic.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, working on cars and cutting wood.
Mr. Frayne was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Dyer of Michigan, Debra Bunch of Tennessee and Tracy Sexton of Cottonwood; three sons-in-laws, Matthew Dyer, Randall Bunch and Tracy Sexton; a sister, Eileen Tamplen of California; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service is scheduled for today at 1 p.m. in the Westcott Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7400 providing military honors.
John C. Thrasher
Lake Montezuma resident John Thrasher died May 23.
He was 66 years old.
Mr. Thrasher was born Oct. 30, 1933 in Floydada, Texas.
He was a retired dry wall contractor in the construction industry.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Pam, Pat and Peggy; three sisters, Polly, Lorraine and Lou; a brother, Wayne Thrasher and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held May 26 at the Hepler Funeral Home Chapel in Camp Verde.
Kevin Ellis Dunne
A memorial service is scheduled June 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Town Mission for Cottonwood resident Kevin Dunne.
Mr. Dunne died May 23.
He was 44 years old.
Mr. Dunne was born March 25, 1956 in Oceanside, Calif.
He moved to Cottonwood from California five years ago.
Mr. Dunne was a physical therapist.
His hobbies included golf, softball and he liked to fish. Mr. Dunne was a member of the Old Town Mission.
Survivors include his parents, Donald Dunne of Mexico; his mother, Mary Dunne of California; three brothers, Kelly, Patrick and Regan of California; two nieces and one nephew.

John G. Simonis
John George Simonis, 82, of Cottonwood died May 19.
Mr. Simonis was born March 21 in Edgar, Mont.
He worked as an auto body repairman. He was a World War II veteran serving with the US Army Air Corps. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1102 in Washington, a member of the Moose and American Legion Post #93.
Mr. Simonis is survived by his wife, Dottie Anne Simonis;; a daughter, Judith Michelle Christie and son in law, Sarah L. Brandau-Simonis of Phoenix; a sister, Rose Carrington of Billings, Montana and Lilly Scollard of Laurel, Montana; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A visitation will be held Sunday, May 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.in the Westcott Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 21 at 2 p.m. in the Westcott Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Cave Creek.
Joseph E. Bentley
Lake Montezuma resident Joseph Bentley died May 20.
He was 96 years old.
Mr. Bentley was born in Middlesex, Pa., Feb. 26, 1904.
He was a former engineer.
Survivors include his caregiver, Louise McCauley and one nephew.
A memorial service was held May 22 at Lake Montezuma Chapel.
Karen Whalen O’Brien
A memorial Mass was held May 24 at St. Cecilia’s Mission Catholic Church in Clarkdale for resident Karen Whalen O’Brien.. Father Michael Hurley officiated the service.
Mrs. O’Brien died May 22 at the age of 63.
She was born in Boulder City, Nevada Oct. 29, 1929.
Mrs. O’Brien received her master’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Mrs. O’Brien belonged to the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and she was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Jerry Francis O’Brien; two daughters, Kerry Colleen George of Flagstaff and Shelia Maureen Sittinger of Kentucky; two sons, John Michael O’Brien of California and Erin Kevin O’Brien of Nevada; a sister, Patsy Nolan of Washington and five brothers, Dennis Whalen of Louisiana, Don Whalen of Colorado, Barry Whalen of California, Brian Whalen of Nevada and Luke Whalen of Iowa; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
