Frances Bachelier, born September 22, 1920 in Bright, MS, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2000. She is survived by her sister, Rivers Byford; three children, Conrad, Dache, and Leslee; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Frances, also known as "Mimi", was recently honored as a lifetime member of Randolph Women's Golf Club. She had a passion for golf, reading, and arts and crafts. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. "Sleep with the Angels, and go With God Mom". Services will be held Thursday, March 2, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. FRANK RIVERA, age 58 of Tucson, died Thursday, October 28, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Maria Lupe Rivera; aunt, Josie Tellez; brothers and sisters, Vicente (Kathy) Rivera, Irene (Guadalupe "Buddy") Sanchez, Irma Rachel (Felix) Rico, Johnny (Blanche) Rivera, Paul (Olivia) Rivera, Ciro (Vanna) Rivera, David (Odilia) Rivera, Rebecca Rivera; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merejildo and Nasaria Rivera; and sister, Bernice Rivera. Mr. Rivera was active for the last five years in the Retired and Senior Volunteer program of the Pima Council on Aging and the Armory Center. An all-night wake will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 1999 at Cristo Rey Church, New Pascua Pueblo with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Cristo Rey. SEARS, Arthur W., 70, of Tucson/ SaddleBrooke, died Tuesday, November 2, 1999. He was District Manager of Pepsi-Cola in San Francisco for 38 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann; daughters, Linda (Ray) Leach, Teri Sears; son, Kurt (Barbara) Sears; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Aimee, Michael Jean, James, Amber, Jason, and Jamie all of California; sister, Dolores Smith of Juneau, Alaska. ELLEN JEAN (KEIRN) SWAN died in Tucson, AZ on November 1, 1999. She was born April 21, 1926 in Gary, Indiana to Edgar J. and Thelma J. (McDermott) Keirn. She was a 1943 graduate of Emerson High School in Gary. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Margaret R. Cushman. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James R. Swan; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Alice Blackburn of Hendersonville, Tennessee; daughter, Nancy Nadine Swan of Indianapolis, IN; grandson, Christopher Blackburn; granddaughter, Amy Blackburn; step-grandson, Chad Gates; and numerous cousins.
Mrs. Swan was active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and P.T.A. while her children were young. She served as President of the P.T.A. of Edgelea School in Lafayette, IN and of Schools 94 and 98 in Indianapolis, IN. She was an Honorary Life Member of the Indiana State Parent Teacher Association.
Jean became involved in Republican Party politics after the couple moved to Noblesville, Indiana in 1972. She served as a precinct committee woman, Noblesville City Chairman and Hamilton County Vice Chairman. In 1986 she was awarded the title Hamilton County Republican Woman of the Year by then Indiana Governor Robert Orr. She was Hamilton County Coordinator for Senator Dan Quayle's run for re-election in 1986 and for his run for Vice President of the United States in 1988.
During the time she resided in Noblesville, Jean also served as Secretary to Hamilton County Superior Court II and was manager of an Indiana State Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch.
Jean was an avid duplicate bridge player throughout her adult life. She usually belonged to more than one bridge club. When her husband retired in 1992, the couple moved to Arizona, where they took up residence in Oro Valley. Jean was a member of the Oro Valley Republican Women's Club, the American Sewing Guild and the Bernina Sewing Club.

MARY LOUISE "LOU" TUDOR, 72, passed away October 31, 1999. Preceded in death by husband, Marlin F. "Stumpy" Tudor. Survived by loving daughters, Judy (George Jr.) Stevenson and Jeannie (Ken) Welsh; grandchildren, Kenny Welsh, Kendall Bailey, and Jake Stevenson; great-grandchildren, Kailynn and Cory Bailey; twin sister, Lois Koehler; sister-in-law, Bonnie Koogler. Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 4, 1999 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Road, with burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. She has been the joy and strength for the entire family and will be missed by all.
WHITNEY, The Rev. Dr. Arthur P., born August 3, 1910 in Connecticut, died October 26, 1999 in Tucson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Henry and Frances Whitney; one sister, and two brothers. He is survived by two nieces and a host of friends. He graduated from high school in Brooklyn, N.Y., received a B.A. from Brothers College of Drew University and M.Div. from Drew Theological Seminary, Madison, N.J. He received a Ph.D from New York University, N.Y. and served as pastor of Lynbrook Methodist Church, Lynbrook, N.Y. before becoming Director of Field Work, and later Vice-President of Drew University. He then served as Vice-President of The American Bible Society in New York City. After retirement in 1976, Dr. Whitney moved to Tucson, where he has been an active member and Pastor Emeritus of Catalina United Methodist Church. While there he helped found the Harmony Bible Class, which today bears his name. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the Catalina United Methodist sanctuary on November 15 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Catalina United Methodist, 2700 East Speedway. YOST, William of Tucson, passed away on October 28, 1999. He was born August 6, 1923 in Rockville, CT and educated in the local schools.
He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942, and was a crew chief in a B-24 Liberator in the European Theatre with the 459th Bomber Group.
He graduated from Cincinnati School of Arts & Science in 1948 and established the William Yost Funeral Home in Stafford Springs, CT in 1949.
He is a past president of the Rotary Club, chairman of the American Red Cross, and District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America.
He moved to Tucson in 1973 and was on Staff at the University Hospital until his retirement in 1987. He worked as a consultant for SCI Funeral Services in Tucson the last few years.
He leaves a son and daughter-in-law, William Yost Jr. and Peggy Yost; and a daughter, Barbara Titus all of Manchester, CT; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jessica Rivera, Mrs. Amy Edberg and Thomas Titus.
Memorial Services will be at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 1999.
MARY ANN ALLEN, 57, passed away February 25, 2000. Born in Barry, IL. A resident of Tucson, AZ for the past 32 years. Mary Ann was an avid bowler, an active member of the AWBA and a past board member of the TWBA. She is survived and always in the hearts of her mother Yvonne Gill, sisters Joyce and Donna, her children Carol Alvarez, Kathy White, Robert Allen, Terri Batt and Kelli Allen all of Tucson, AZ. Mary Ann found much happiness and pride in her grandchildren Heather, Brad, Andrew, Kevin, Cody, Lea, Austin, Gracie and 1 day old Isaac. She will also be missed by her four son-in-laws and her daughter-in-law. Services are at South Lawn Mortuary, Saturday March 4, 2000 at 11:00AM. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Ann's name by made to The American Lung Association.
ALTSHULER, Constance Wynn, an Arizona historian who won several awards for her work, died in Tucson on February 11, 2000, at the age of 91. A resident of Tucson since 1948, she wrote four books and numerous journal articles on territorial and pre-territorial Arizona history from 1850-1890.
Earlier in her career, Mrs. Altshuler was a newspaper reporter, a statistician and a freelance writer whose short stories were published in magazines such as the Ladies' Home Journal and Collier's from the 1930s to the 1950s. She was born in Chicago on October 4, 1908, graduated from the University of Chicago in 1929, and received a master's degree in statistics from the University of Michigan in 1939. She marriage Dr. Samuel S. Altshuler of Detroit in 1934.
Mrs. Altshuler received awards and commendations for her work and her assistance to fellow historians from the Arizona Historical Society in 1982, the Arizona Hall of Fame in 1987, Gov. Rose Mofford and Company B of the 8th U.S. Memorial Infantry. She was a founding member of 1980 of the Adobe Corral, a Tucson branch of the Westerners International.
Mrs. Altshuler's husband died in 1963. Her survivors include a nephew, Fred Altshuler of San Francisco, and a niece, Barbara Rose of San Jose, CA.
A memorial event will be held at the Fort Lowell Museum at 12:00 noon Sunday, March 12.
