Mr. Rudy Cobos, 54, passed away October 5, 2001 in Whittier, CA. He was born September 23, 1947 in Saticoy, CA. Mr. Cobos , a Vietnam Veteren, served in the U.S. Army and worked at The Yuma Proving Grounds, Commissary. He graduated from Kofa High School with the Class of 1966.
Survivors include; his daughter Angela Cobos of Whittier, CA., son, Robert Cobos of Yuma, mother, Socorro Cobos brothers, Angel Cobos Jr., and Danny Cobos all of Somerton and David Cobos of El Paso, TX., sisters, Belia Poradek of Yuma and Hilda Campbell of Chandler, AZ, 5 grandchildren and 23 nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Cobos was preceded in death by his Father Reverend Angel Cobos Sr.
Visitation will be held at Johnson Mortuary Thursday, October 11, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Mortuary with Pastor Jose Hernandez officiating. Final resting place will be Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers include Robert Cobos, Gabriel Cobos, David Cobos Jr., Freddy Cobos, Eddie Macasan Sr. and Teddy Martin Jr.
Honorary Bearers include Ted Martin Sr., Don Evans, Marc Miranda, Stanley Magana, Ramon Mezquita, Patricio Mezquita and Louie Miranda.
Mr. Charles “Mando” Santa Cruz

Bertie Pearl Gregory
Bertie Gregory passed away on October 5, 2001 in Yuma. She was born January 4, 1918 to Niels & Bessie Olsen in Menard, Texas. Her family moved to Chowchilla, Ca. during the depression where she graduated from high school in 1935. After marrying Harvey Brook Gregory, they moved to Reno where she worked as hostess/cashier at the Holiday Hotel Casino for many years. Bertie was a long time friend of Bill W., and was very active in the 449 Club. She was an avid card and bingo player. She also made and sold crafts to benefit Crossroads Mission.
Bertie is survived by her daughters and spouses Deborah & Mark Machamer, and Barbara & Thomas Kramer, 4 grandchildren plus several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her grandson Michael Kramer.
In lieu of memorial services a “Memory Party” will be held in December to celebrate her life.
Golda Agnes Lowary
Golda Agnes Lowary, 86 passed way Octo ber8, 2001 in Lakeside, CA She was born December 29, 1914 in Branson, MO.
She was a housewife and a member of the Protestant religion.
Golda is survived by her daughter and son in law Genola and Henry Redondo of El Cajon, Ca.; Son and daughter in law Ladran B. and Peggy Gray of Yuma, AZ.;5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis S. Lowary, Father and Mother George Clayton and Genola Ann Stallcup.
Visitation will be at Johnson Mortuary on Friday October 12, 2001 from 4:00pm-9:00pm.
Funeral services will be at Johnson Mortuary on Saturday, October 13, 2001 starting at 11:00 am. Phil Clark will officiate. Final resting place will be Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons & great grandsons, Randall Williams-Bill Gray-Bryan Gray- Lewis Endsley- Brandon Endsley and Kyle Williams.
Melvin Henry Galer
Born February 19, 1922, in Galt, California. Passed into God’s hands, September 19, 2001 in Salem, Oregon at the age of 79.
A World War II Veteran, he served proudly with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 93rd Fighter Squadron, 81st Fighter Group in the China -Burma-India Theater of Operations. He flew “the hump” over the Himalayan Mountains from India into China transporting precious fuel and supplies to stop the Japanese invasion of China. Following the war he obtained his education at the California Polytechnic Institute, San Luis Obispo, California where he majored in Aeronautical Engineering. During that time he became interested in aerial photogrammetry and later became a licensed Land Surveyor in both California and Washington. He worked for over 25 years with the California Department of Transportation as Senior Land Surveyor and Right of Way Engineer. He also owned his own land surveying company for many years and was a court appointed expert witness as well as a part time college instructor in land surveying. His hobbies included woodworking and aviation.
He is survived by son, Kenneth O. Galer of Yuma, Arizona; son David H.Galer and daughter-in-law Linda of Ida, Oklahoma; and stepdaughter Kathy Cruz and stepson-in-law Daniel of Salem, Oregon. Grandchildren are David H. Galer, Jr, Jonathan M. Galer, Joanne E. Galer and Tyler D. Cruz.
He will be interred at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Memorial services with military honors have been scheduled for October 12, 2001 at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
Mona Jewell Hosking
Mona Jewell Hosking, a loving, dedicated, caring wife, mother and grandmother affectionally called Moma, passed away September 18th 2001. Born in Ishpeming, MI January 31,1908, moved to Richmond, California where she graduated from Richmond Union High School, class of 1926. She married Gordon Hosking on April 7,1928.
She retired from the Purchasing Department of the Richmond School District after working in the local shipyard during World War II. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Quota Club and Beta Xi Chapter of Alpha Zeta Beta. After seven years of Airstream(NORCAL chapter) travels, relocated to Yuma where she was active in Meals-on-Wheels, the Republican Party and church.
She is survived by son Gerry, daughter-in-law Barbara of Bellevue, WA, grandchildren Kathy and Terry Agnew of Woodinville, WA, Mike and Trish Hosking of Phoenix, AZ, Doug and Laura Hosking of Hillsborough, CA, Tim and Audrey Hosking of London, England, Chris and Kevin Salzman of Edgewood, WA, great-grandchildren Laura, Kevin, Andy, Douglas, Katie, Drew, Leah, Jon, Michael, Ashlyn, Addison, Amanda and Samuel. Services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, October 20th in the chapel of Foothills Assembly of God, 12831-41st, Yuma, AZ. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Yuma 1824 South 8th Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364 or Stanford University.
Jean V. Dayton Pauli
Jean V. Pauli, age 88, died September 30, 2001, in Yuma, AZ. Jean was a winter visitor to Yuma for the past 15 years. She was born October 6, 1912 in Portland, OR and lived there for 50 years before moving to Omaha, NE, in 1962. She was an independent person, a member of the Omaha Chapter of the Gold Star Wives of America, Inc., an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan, and she liked an occasional Jack Daniels on-the-rocks.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Janice, of Yuma; brother-in-law, Don Pauli, of Winner, SD; sister-in-law, Doris McKay, Los Angeles, CA; numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and many close and wonderful friends in Portland, Omaha and Yuma.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John G. LaRouche, who died in combat during the Normandy Campaign in WWII. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Joseph A. Pauli, Jr., who operated and managed the Tik-Tok Restaurant in Portland during the 1940’s and 1950’s and The Hinky-Dinky Grill in Omaha in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Her sister, Lois Surber, of Los Angeles, CA and by her brother, Arthur C. Dayton, of Portland, OR. also preceded.
Local arrangements and cremation by Kammann Mortuary. Visitation was held in Omaha on Wednesday, October 10th at John A. Gentleman Mortuary, followed by intermenty October 11th in Kearney, NE. No services were held per Jean’s specific directive.

Daniel “Danny” Gilbert Torres
Daniel “Danny” Gilbert Torres, 58, a resident of Albuquerque since 1982, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anna L Torres of Albuquerque, daughters, Jeannine Whiting and husband, Jeff, Dana Gonzales and husband, Martin, and Julie Torres and Lalo Sanchez, all of Albuquerque, grandchildren, Antoinette, Martin, Matthew, Alejandro, Heather, Anna, and Max; sister, Delia Ghiotto and husband, Robert of Rosemead, CA; brothers, Alex Torres and wife Lucille and Robert Torres and wife Teresa, all of Yuma, AZ. sisters Mary Louise Escudero and Mary Helen Nunez, both of Sacramento, CA, brother, Gene Torres and wife Mary Helen of Yuma, AZ, mother-in-law, Elizabeth McGinnis of Evansville, IN; sisters-in-law, Helen McGinnis and Marcia McGinnis, both of Evansville, IN; brother-in-law, Ronnie McGinnis and wife, Tina of Evansville, IN; nephew, Steven McGinnis of Evansville, IN; and other numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro L. Torres and Jessie Castro Torres.
Danny was born in Yuma, AZ. He graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1961. He entered the United States Army where he served in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. It was there that he met his wife, Anna L. Yoder whom he married on February 26, 1966. After living in Yuma, AZ, Salt Lake City, UT, and Taos, NM they settled in Albuquerque in 1994. He worked for Redwing Shoes. He had a great love for the Raiders and also John Wayne. He was a member of American Legion Post #49, LULAC, and St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Danny was a hard worker who always placed his family first. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rosary and Wake will be Tuesday, October 16, 2001, 5:00p.m - 9:00 p.m. with rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Funeral mass will be Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will take place at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Yuma, AZ. Rolland H. “Red” Gardner
Rolland H. “Red” Gardner, was born in Madras, Oregon on October 10, 1905 and passed away on October 12, 2001 in Yuma, Arizona.
He was an exalted ruler of the B.P.O.E. Lodge of Tillamook, Oregon and also Charter member and Past District Deputy of the B.P.O.E. Lodge of Hillsboro, Oregon. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Yuma, Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Gardner, Daughter Patricia Hein of Gaston, Oregon, step-daughters Donna Awe Berge of Tillamook, Patricia St. Louis of Saskatoon, SASK,; and Step-sons Thomas Miller of Tillamook, Oregon and Bob Bailey of Spring, Texas. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Foothills Moose Lodge.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice of Yuma or the Greater Helping Hands Club.
Justin Levi Melton
Justin Levi Melton, 9, died on October 11, 2001 in Tucson, AZ. He was born in Yuma on March 19, 1992.
Survivors include his father, William “Billy” Melton, of Yuma; mother, Dawn Weathersby, of Phoenix; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Weathersby II and Trey Winn, both of Phoenix; grandparents, Steve Melton, of Yuma, Mary Hamilton, of PA, Robert Weathersby, of CA and Suzie Weathersby, of Yuma as well as two uncles, three aunts and seven cousins.
He is preceded in death by his great grandparents, William and Grace Melton and Levi and Mary Weathersby.
Visitation will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 2555 S. Engler Ave. on October 18, 2001 at 9:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 AM. Pastor Harmon will officiate. Desert Lawn Memorial Park will be his final resting place. Pallbearers will be William Melton, Steve Melton, Joel Melton, Jay Harbour, Hector Noriega, Robert Weathersby and Robert Weathersby II.

Mr. George R. Cole
Mr. George R. Cole, 80, passed away October 15, 2001 in Yuma, Arizona. He was born September 23, 1921 in San Diego, CA. Mr. Cole worked at Rohr Inc. He was a member of First Christian Church. Mr. Cole, a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather was honorable discharged from U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include 1 sister, 4 children, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at First Christian Church, Saturday October 20, 2001 at 3:00 p.m.
Kelly D. Mikkelsen
Kelly D. Mikkelsen, 36, died on October 11, 2001 in Yuma, AZ. He was born on November 6, 1964 in Langdon, ND. He was a member of the Baptist church. Kelly owned Mr. Clean’s Carpet Care.
Survivors include his wife, Rubecca Mikkelsen, of Yuma; 8 month old daughter, Allison Mikkelsen, 2 year old son, Jarett Mikkelsen and 5 year old son, Miles Mikkelsen, all of Yuma; daughter, Taylor Fox, of San Diego, CA; father, Dennis Mikkelsen, of Langdon, ND and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Langdon, ND.
Visitation will be held at Yuma Mortuary on October 17, 2001 from 5-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will also be held at Yuma Mortuary on October 18, 2001 at 2:00 PM. Pastor Sam Norris will officiate. Langdon, North Dakota will be his final resting place.
